3 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 1999 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 09/30/2006

I have a 1999 Dodge Intrepid that blew a rod at 72,000 miles with no warning. We replaced the engine for about $3,000 and two weeks ago at 102,000 miles I started to hear a rapping sound that was probably another rod, but before the engine could blow another rod something in the timing snapped, so now I am left with a lawn ornament that I can't afford to fix and I am still paying for. Not to mention the various other items we have had to replace like the a/c condenser for $600. 00 and the speed sensors, that was another $300. 00. This car is the biggest lemon I have ever bought.

5 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 1998 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 01/08/2004

We (husband and I) own a 1998 Dodge Intrepid with a 2. 7l engine. We were driving down the road and the engine locked up and the car died. There were no warning signs, no lights came on, no unusual sounds. We have taken care of this car, with oil change receipts and all of that good stuff. We were driving down a main road in the town we live in when this happened and were going around a curve. Luckily the two cars beside us were paying attention, because since the engine locked up, the power steering went out, and I wasn't strong enough to steer out of the way, the other two cars did manage to honk their horns and swerve, nearly going off of the road. (I have read and been told by tons of mechanics the 2. 7l engines in these cars are horrible).

6 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 2002 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 10/27/2003

Problems brake rotors and odometer on 2002 Dodge Intrepid ES. The vehicle made an unusual noise and then shut down. The dealer indicated that the start-up alarm system needed to be regulated. The dealer made the repairs but the problem continued. A few days later the noises continued, the odometer stopped and the vehicle didn't indicate what gear it was in. The vehicle was taken to another dealer who corrected the problem. The consumer later learned that the vehicle needed new rotors and brake pads on all four wheels. The vehicle was returned to the sales dealer who was no longer in business. After contacting Chrysler, she was told there was nothing they could do. The consumer doesn't think the rotors should have failed within four months or ownership.
