36 Engine problem of the 1999 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 12/05/2007

The motor in the 1999 Dodge Intrepid I just bought stop working. I took it to a mechanic and he said the timing chain broke due to a defect. He told me to call Chrysler and ask what they could do to help me. I called them and they said I on my own. I have looked into the a little and found that many people have had the same problems and now there is a lawsuit against Chrysler in new jersey from debra lee herbert. Engines pricing is $2000. 00 to $5000. 00 depending on new or used. Plus the engine places won't warranty this from happening again. Please help.

37 Engine problem of the 2000 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 12/03/2007

At 81,000 miles, the vehicle timing chain broke on highway causing it to lose all power, including power steering, and making it difficult to safely pull over. The owner's manual says to replace the timing chain at 100,000 miles. And the oil has been changed every 3,000 miles. According to my mechanic it is definitely a defect of the engine as he noted evidence of sludge build-up.

38 Engine problem of the 2003 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 11/29/2007

I purchased a 2003 Dodge Intrepid in may of 2007. Shortly thereafter I began to have problems with my vehicle. I had a tune up, and oil change, then the camshaft sensor went bad. I had to have that replaced twice (the first sensor was defective) then I noticed my oil light flashing dimly. I immediately took it in for repair the result was a cleaning of my oil pickup tube and screen and another oil change. I used high mileage oil and lucas oil additive I also used plus grade gas and still this happened. From what I now know the 2. 7l v6 dohc is "trash" as quite a few mechanics have called it.

40 Engine problem of the 1999 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 09/21/2007

Catastrophic failure of the engine while driving 65 mph on the ohio turnpike. Told by two different garages that the engine is blown, rod irreparably bent, must be replaced and that this is a well known problem with the 2. 7 engines and that Dodge will do nothing about it. Told by 5 different mechanics to junk it, not to bother replacing it because they'll just have to put another faulty 2. 7 engine in the car. No way this engine should go out in a dangerous situation like highway driving! the car is in my yard right now.

41 Engine problem of the 2000 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 09/18/2007

I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid that at approximately 80,000 miles the cam censor went out, then about 10,000 miles later then crank censor went out. When the car had 106,000 miles on it my wife was driving home from work when she heard loud knocking coming from the engine, took it to a repair shop to find out the engine seized due to sludge. This car has had the oil changed every 3,000 miles. The mechanic said it would about $4,000 to replace. Now I come to find out that Chrysler knows they had a problem with these engines and won't fix them. I bought this car new and never expected that Chrysler won't stand behind their product.

42 Engine problem of the 2000 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 09/18/2007

I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid that I have w/ a 2. 7 engine and the engine seized/locked up on me and the heat had went out on it right before the engine seized up. I took care of the vehicle and had no problems until then. My vehicle is nice looking in and out and I cannot afford another engine for this car so it's sitting there behind my house and I have no transportation. I paid a great deal for this car and didn't have any problems w/ it until it seized and it seized up at 97,000 miles! this car is a great disappointment for me and something needs to be looked into the problems everyone has been having out of these vehicles. I ran off the road and into a small tree. It makes me and my family/friends not ever want to buy another Dodge/Chrysler vehicle. Please look into this for me.

43 Engine problem of the 1999 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 09/17/2007

We've only had the car for 10months now and already its a piece of junk. While driving my kids to daycare one day the car just stopped. The steering wheel wouldn't move and the brakes wouldn't work. My husband pulled into a parking lot and put on the emergency brake. He tried to start it up and it wouldn't. He looked under the hood and checked the oil thinking maybe that was the problem. He tried to start it again after he saw there was oil there and the timing chain jump up and broke right threw the covering. We didn't have aaa so his brother called them and had them tow it to a mechanic. That's when we found out the valves were bent causing the motor to be useless. The whole cost of the repairs were an estimate of $3000. We called the finance company and they told us to first call the dealer we bought the car from and they should be able to trade it in for another vehicle. The dealership said it wasn't their problem and that we should have taken the extended warranty. My husband asked why they didn't offer it and they stated they didn't have to. This is very hard on us being that we both work fulltime and have two small children. We can not afford to get this car repaired and keep paying on a car that doesn't serve us any value.

I was driving home from work when my car gave a jerking motion as I was driving. I thought that maybe I hit a bump. As I pulled into the bank my car just died in the middle of the parking lot. Their was no warning or anything. I had the car owed from the parking lot to my home and from their to the local firestone. Firestone informed me that my engine was locked and that the car had no oil. I am now looking at purchasing a new engine for the car because I am still paying a car note. At this moment the car engine is still available.

Failure Date: 03/04/2007

I purchased this vehicle used from a reputable dealer. All repairs are well documented. Over the last 2 years there have been recurring problems with overheating that no one was able to diagnose. My husband went out to start the car after it had been sitting for approximately 12 hours and the engine burst into flames. Thank goodness there was a snow bank or our house would have been a loss as well. Through the internet I have discovered a recall for symptoms that we have experienced, without repair, but are listed in recall information. We are getting the run around about how to pursue repairing the vehicle under the recall provisions.

63 Engine problem of the 2004 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 02/05/2007

My wife's car would not start for her went she was going to go to work. For about the last eight to ten months the oil light was coming on and she took it to a auto shop an they said that it was a oil sensor. They replaced it and I also changed the oil. After it would not start on 2/05/07 she had it towed to the shop where they said it was the battery and the starter, but that didn't work. The guy that was working on it noticed that the engine was a 2. 7 v6 motor. He told us that the car had locked up and would never start again due to oil starvation. He also said that he had seen this one other time. The year of her car is a 2004 Dodge Intrepid. He also stated that cars that have that 2. 7 size motor made by daimler Chrysler have this oil starvation problem which cause my wife's car to lock up. If this is true it could be a danger to others with this size motor if they are driving and the car may lock up. We are still looking into what will be done to resolve this issue but would like to let people know that if they have the 2. 7 v6 size motor in their car and the oil light keeps coming on especially during braking to get it checked ASAP. Thank you.

My engine is junk and my warranty will not cover this, Chrysler will also not take fault, even though I took all the necessary precautions for my car. I am afraid that someone else in my situation may not have been able to get to the side of the road like I was, and may resort in a fatal accident.
