I have a 2002 Dodge Intrepid with 2. 7 engine the oil was changed every3k miles as should. In 2008 the car just shut off later took it to dealer with thought that warranty would cover it and they would not. The failure was because of oil sludge. There are very many complaints and mechanic inputs on this engine. . Dodge thinks the owners are at fault when in my case everything was done at the right time to keep it in good shape. The engine is no good there needs to be a recall on this product. It causes the engine to just shut off where ever you are. Some have shut off on highways which could cause serious wrecks. . Then I ws on the fwy driving to work and when I was changing lanes the same thing happened. The oil light came on and the engine just shut off on me. I was barely able to get the vehicle off the fwy and thankfully there was an exit close by where I was able to exit without further damage or injury. While driving my 2000 Dodge Intrepid, I felt that my life was jeopardized on 3 occasions. Once with my two children onboard. While I was driving, the oil light began to flicker and the engine shut off. I lost complete power. I was lucky the first time when I run off the road and went unto the side walk where I luckily did not injure anyone. The 2nd and 3rd time,I was on the highway, I knew I was about the loss power because I notice the oil light flickering, as a precaution , I slowed down and was about to pull up to the service lane when the engine totally shut off. I had not control the steering nor brakes; nothing worked. I don't know how I got the car to stop. After that night,I called my husband crying, I was shaking, trembling and scared to death. After that I became so scared that I vowed never to drive the car again because I felt that one day I may be killed or kill my children or some innocent person due to no fault of my own. I had my mechanic pickup the car. Now he tells me that the engine died.

There were no events leading up to this failure. . It happened suddenly and without notice. My 4yr old daughter and I were driving down the road, when all of the sudden my oil pressure light came on and the engine shut down. All functions of the car were lost, I almost got into a wreck while trying to get the car to the side of the road. I had it towed to a dealer, who in return told me that my motor was trash, and that it needed to be replaced. I changed the oil every 3000 miles every time and the previous owner, whom I knew very well, took excellent care of the car as well. The mechanic told me that the pistons blew due to build up of engine sludge, and that the motor was not worth fixing, and that I should buy a rebuilt or new motor. I began to research this data on the internet when I came across your website and many more like it. I quickly became infuriated with the Dodge company, as they are aware of their faulty engines, yet they continue to blame the consumer and refuse to recall these motors. My daughter and I could have been seriously injured had we been traveling much faster or been in a different location, such as train tracks near our house. This is completely absurd, Dodge is aware of the problem, yet refuse to back their products. I will never ever buy another Dodge or Chrysler product again, and I will not let any friends, family, or anyone else reading this do so either. If you know that you are producing junk motors, shouldn't you provide your consumers with the respect to warn them of the hazardous conditions that await them. If there are deaths because of this, can you really get an honest nights rest??? I have lost all respect for Dodge that I once had. I now have a car sitting in my driveway that is worthless and cannot be driven because I can't invest 4-8k into the car for the new engine needed. . . Why bother anyway when that motor would do the exact same thing in a matter of time. . Because it is absolute junk.
