We lust purchased a used 2000 Dodge Intrepid it had 105,000 miles on it , it was in great condition until may 21,2010, I was on my way to my parents house and the car starting making funny noises and it just cut off with us, we tried to start it back but it failed, had it looked at, they are telling me it needs a new engine, needless to say the cost is outrageous!!!!!! I love my car, but as I read on the internet there is alot of engine problems with the 2. 7l engines, is there any thing that can be done about this?.

The timing chain was getting ready to snap. Took vehicle to the dealer because the engine was knocking and making a funny noise. Dealer stated that if consumer had to drive much further it would snap while driving it. There was oil sludge built up in the engine. This happened on March 15, 2005.

My husband took our kids to get haircuts the car was making a funny sound when he got to the salon he shut the car off and it wouldn't restart. A few people passed by and told him it was the starter. $135 later and a new starter installed, it still won't turn over. Upon speaking with a Dodge mechanic at the dealer, he informed me that the car had "jumped timing" and that since it's a zero tolerance engine, it's quite possible that I have a valve stuck open and the part to fix it costs $2,000 plus labor. He also advised me to call Chrysler as, in his words, a car with 46,000 miles on it should not be having these problems.
