1 Body problem of the 2011 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 04/23/2025

The gas tank fell onto the road while driving to pick up my daughter from the bus. I immediately pulled over due to the sound. I then saw the front of the gas tank on the ground , half a mile down the road I was traveling there are alot of pit holes and that could of ended in a fire or worse with my tank dragging the ground. I have taken it to the dealership that would help repair the recall but they have yet to repair or give me information about what the manufacturer has said on what to do. They told me it is to rusty underneath to repair and contacted manufacturer. I am without a vehicle its been almost 2 weeks and I have a 6 year old child and my own health issues that inquire dr appointments. I have no money for a rental and no family or friends who can help with rides. I am unsure of what to do next I just know this is extremely frustrating considering I had purchased this vehicle only a few months ago.

3 Body problem of the 2005 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 06/29/2023

Significantly rusted out truck bed framing. I purchased the truck from a private seller a couple of years ago, and the bed had a rubber mat and plastic side panels in the bed. I was unaware of what was underneath at that time. On 06/28/2023, I removed the rubber mat, and side plastic panels to reveal major rusting with the truck bed. The bed is at major risk of separating from the frame. If this issue is not resolved, the truck bed will experience separation from the truck frame; causing the bed to separate at highway speeds, causing property damage, injuries, or even death. Upon searching for a good used bed from salvage yards, none exist that are in good condition in a 500 mile search radius and/or they are $800. 00 to multiple thousands in cost to obtain. Multiple beds on the search have major rusting/wasting of the bed frame as well. This should constitute a major safety defect with poor rust proofing.

4 Body problem of the 2001 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 09/01/2022

Where the sway bar is bolted to the chassis has completely deteriorated causing sway bar to completely detach from both sides of the frame. This has caused it very difficult to steer and nearly impossible the more mph the vehicle goes. I own another vehicle nearly exactly the same but a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 VIN number 3b7hf12z3wm288489. It to has the same exact problem. I believe that the quality of steel used in manufacturing the frame of these vehicles was not up to standards.

When moving vehicle after fueling, truck was stopped, put in park and driver opened the door to exit the vehicle. The truck unexpectedly began moving backward and the driver was knocked to the ground by the door. The door caught the door on the fuel pump guard post, bending the door back beyond 90 degrees and bending the hinge, and causing irreparable damage to the door and fender, and also caused damage to a car fueling at the pump when it struck it. The door does not open or close properly.

I ended up running carfax on it and found out the odometer was rolled back two weeks before I purchased it. It had originally 167,000 miles.

17 Body problem of the 2003 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 05/01/2020

The truck was brought in to dealer to inspect/repair wiring for trailer outlet. When they and began raising the vehicle, the rear lift arms broke through the frame on both sides. When I drove it short way to the repair shop (about 5 miles), the frame on the left broke and sagged and I nearly lost control. The repair shop was in sight and I was able to make it at under 10 mph. The road between the dealer and repair shop was an old country road and I never exceeded 45mph. The rusted frame was first noticed by witt Ford in pulaski and the frame was reinforced/surrounded by welded plate steel. There was no warning of the defect. If I had been travelling at highway speed and this failure occurred, I would have lost control, the left side of the truck would have been dragging as well as fuel tank. There would have been a crash and probably a fire.

A unknown local dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 258,000.

19 Body problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 04/09/2020

Severe corrosion resulting in compromised structural frame integrity near where the rear bumper and towing packages attaches to the frame. Appears to be the result of a frame reinforcement on the inside of the frame that was not properly coated with a rust inhibitor at the factory. Moisture likely penetrated the space between the two metal pieces and caused complete rust-through, compromising the integrity of the rear of the frame. This could be a serious safety issue since bumpers and towing packages mount to the frame in this exact spot. At highway speeds, bumpers or trailers in tow could break away from the vehicle and become dangerous projectiles on the road. This issue was observed during routine maintenance to the rear differential. It has likely been ongoing for months. The underneath side of the vehicle is regularly washed in the winter and spring to remove DE-icer that was applied to the road during winter storms. Both sides of the frame have severe corrosion in the same spot. The left-side frame has worse corrosion than the right side. The support metal is visible on the right side frame and can be seen in the images attached.

35 Body problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 09/19/2017

The front strap holding the gas tank to the frame broke causing the fuel tank to drop very close to the ground. The vehicle was parked and I noticed something hanging underneath the car. Had I driven it, my concern is that it would have detached from the vehicle either because the remaining strap would detach or because the fuel tank would not clear a bump in the road surface. The potential for rupture or accident by my vehicle or a vehicle behind me is a major concern on my part. I have researched the issue on the web and there are quite a few reports of this happening. There have been complaints filed with Dodge/ram and the company (from the reports) is not accepting responsibility for this issue. I am submitting this in the hope that the NHTSA may mitigate a potentially serious situation for someone else.
