After reading many of the same complaints I have, I'm beginning to wonder if Dodge/Chrysler/fiat did the same as gm. That is, intentionally put customers in harms way for profit during the economic downturn. I have a "08" 4x4 ext. Cab truck, that has a clunking noise coming from the rear end. This has happened when I first put this truck in "d", or go through the gears. I have experienced the engine shutting off when I bumped it accidently with my knee. Realize I only have one key on my key ring, so it's not a weight issue similar to gm's ignition problems. I do have a recall for the airbags that I'm sure won't be addressed by Dodge or the local dealers because it does have over 100,000 miles and is a used vehicle. I also have experienced a bounce in the front end when I make a sharp turn. Yes, with 100,000 miles, I prolly need new shocks/struts, but it could very well also be a mechanical/wear issue with the ball joints/tie rod ends. I have also experienced a hard shift in the 5 speed transmission my truck has, even though I've changed out the transmission oil twice since owning this truck. The one nice thing about the Ford products I owned prior, a recall was just that and they honored it even if I wasn't the original owner/mileage issue/etc. That's what safety recalls should be about--safety first! then again, what difference does it make to a manufacturer like Dodge?? to the employee's that want mega monies? to the corporate mgr's that make big bucks, they all hold the consumer as a prisoner per se by putting out a product that doesn't hold up and yet will not honor their mistakes by fixing the product as needed in a timely manner. By the way, I baby my vehicles, I'm not rough on them at all. So mileage should not matter with reasonable wear/tear on any vehicle.

On three separate occasions the vehicle's transmission suddenly began emitting a loud grinding type noise, it stopped pulling forward, and completely stalled in the roadway. After I parked along the side of the roadway and placed the gearshift in park, then back in drive, the vehicle slowly started to pull forward again emitting the loud grinding type noise. Fortunately, I wasn't traveling at a faster speed or on the freeway with heavy traffic when the malfunctions occurred. I could have been seriously injured in a collision because if appeared as though the transmission was going to fall out of the vehicle. I have carried the vehicle in the dealership for repair on each occasion to no avail.

I was driving in the middle lane of traffic at 7o mph when my 4wl lite flashed,I heard a loud bang and my truck jerked violently, I thought I had been rear ended. My truck immediately slowed down to 30mph right after the loud noise. I then had to get across two lanes of speeding freeway traffic to avoid an accident or worse. After I made it to the shoulder of the road and calmed my nerves, I did damage assessment and discovered that my truck had shifted itself into four wheel low at 70 mph. I limped my truck home, stuck in four wheel low, called a tow truck and took it to my Dodge dealer. Almost two years later and numerous trips back to various dealerships to get this warranty work fixed, and out thousands of dollars the problem has never been fixed and Chrysler considers the case closed. I'm afraid now after this incident to take my truck on the freeway as I feel it is not safe for me or the drivers around me. Next time I may not be so lucky.

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 regcab swb. While driving 40 mph on a clear day the contact smelled brake fumes and heard a loud noise from inside the engine compartment. The contact looked through the rear view mirror and noticed loose metal underneath the vehicle. The contact attempted to use the shifter and the clutch, but neither worked. The vehicle eventually shut off and coasted to a strip mall. The contact exited the vehicle and entered a building when a loud noise was heard. The vehicle had ignited into flames ,causing the hood to burst open. The vehicle was completely destroyed. The vehicle was towed to earnharts Dodge. The contact called the company responsible for the vehicle's warranty, and was informed that it would be one to two business days before they could respond. The warranty company failed to respond, but the insurance company arrived and had the vehicle towed to their salvage yard. A week later, an investigator from Dodge stated that the contact will not be given the investigation report because a claim was filed with the insurance company. The fire investigator for state farm insurance indicated the fire was caused by the metal case of the transmission. In addition to the clutch assembly components being distorted and bent. Prior to the fire the contact owned the vehicle for approximately five months. The failure mileage was 5,800.
I purchased my truck in sept 2000. After six weeks and 1100 miles I brought the truck back to the dealer stating that there was something wrong with the transmission. (it made noises and shifted very harshly. ) the dealer said that they checked it, and that there was nothing wrong. At 36,000 miles the transmission blew. There were no gears at all - no forward no reverse. Thankfully it happened close to home on a quiet road so no one was hurt or involved in an accident. The dealer re-built my transmission. When I drove it after that a grinding/chattering noise was occuring - I brought it back to the dealer. I left it there for a day (never got a call from the dealer) when I called them I was told that there was nothing wrong with the trans. . They had taken it for a ride and heard no noise. I returned to the dealer to take one of their "technicians" for a ride and they in fact heard the noise I was referring to. They have now had my car more than twenty three days. (not in a row. I have had to bring it to them on four different occasions, and again take the "technician" for yet another ride) I am writing this now because I believe I am entitled to a new transmission and the dealer says no and keeps trying to rebuid the old one.

Transmission: since I have purchased my truck late in 1999, the transmission hasn't worked properly. I took in early on because when shifting from forward to reverse, there was this slapping noise. The dealer in joliet said that was a normal thing. Now some times when accelerating, the shifting seems somewhat sluggish. I know of a number of people who have Dodge trucks with transmission problems. One has had it replaced twice and finally just this past summer traded for a GMC truck and the others still have theirs but are complaining of the same existing problems. When I do get another truck, I will not even consider a Dodge, it will probably be a GMC or even a Ford as much as I dislike fords. My 1999 truck has 62000 miles on it and sets in the garage most of the time.
