Tailgate Problems of Dodge Ram 1500

The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that when attempting to open the rear tailgate, it fractured and failed to open. The failure occurred twice. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 30,000.

Because of its design, tailgate when it is in the down position, it falls completely off its hinge and onto the road when vehicle goes over a pump.

A two year old 38 pound toddler was climbing up the tailgate and was able to release the tailgate. As a result the child's arm broke. The consumer feels the tailgate should not have been released so easily. This incident also put a dent in the tailgate.
