I drive a 98 Dodge ram. The transmission slips out of overdrive on it's own. I will be replacing this transmission at a cost of $2000. 00. It does it at speeds of 70 mph and could be dangerous if towing a trailer. Dodge trucks are known for faulty transmissions.

I would like to make a complaint in reference to my 2003 Dodge ram 15 quad cab that caused injury to myself by jumping out of gear. Brief description of incident that happened on the date of nov28 wile in a convenient store parking lot I have two of my vehicles that were running at the time and the gear selector was in park position. I hopped out of my truck to go in store but to my surprise I felt a sharp pain in the lower right leg when I looked at what was going on to my surprise I was hit by my own vehicle I was stunned my truck which was in park hit me and there was noone else in my truck lucky for me that store had a big concrete curb to stop the truck or I might not be the one writing to you so I hurried in to my truck to see to my surprise the truck shift indicator was in park. So my compliant is that my truck is now a fearful thing to drive my wife wont even drive in the truck which only has 18000 miles on it I bought it in June of,2007 with 4800 miles I tried to get Dodge to handle this issue but I never got a response so I feel its my duty as humanbeing to inform everyone of the issue that Dodge wants to keep ignoring this safety concern. I wrote emails to them and get nothing in response. I feel they owe me atleast a response to the issue and am very fearful of driving this vehicle that I will be making monthly payments on for the next 48 months. I hope this letter falls into the right hands and someone who can help me with this new truck. Thank you for taking the time to read my letter mr edward riding. If you have any questions feel free to call me .

Transmission jumps (pops) out of first gear. Problem occurs when from a stop, you start to move forward ie; into a intersection, and transmission jumps (pops) out of gear. This problem is a major safety hazard due to the possibility of being hit by another vehicle due to transmission jumping out of gear.
I purchased the truck in 1996 new from parks motors in augusta, since that time I have had the transmission rebuild 3 times for the same problem, the transmission will not shift out of 1 or 2 gear or if it does it takes high rpms to do it. It was determined that a seal in the upper half of the transmission was faulty from the factory. The first time I had this rebuilt I covered the cost myself because of the low mileage warranty the second time I had this rebuilt Chrysler agreed to pay for half of the problem because they knew it had been rebuilt once before and failed a 2nd time, the third time I paid to have it rebuilt out of pocket, I am now at the point of needing it rebuilt for a 4th time my truck has 120,000 miles on it now and I have yet to see a recall on this problem I have talked to many people who have had the same problem and have also been to many web sites describing the same problems I am having, the transmission also has a 5 mile an hour difference than what it should be. My incident date is not exact as this problem has occurred many times now over a 10 year period, I have also reported this before but never had any letters or have been informed as to what was going on from the dot.
While driving vehicle over bumps vehicle jumps out of gear. Dealers have changed linkage 3 times but problem remains.
