Our 2017 Ford Edge experienced catastrophic transmission failure while driving - with absolutely no advance warning. The torque converter fell apart and the vehicle went from driving at speed to losing all momentum. If we had been in heavy traffic, someone could have been killed. Ford has identified this issue with 2017 Ford Edge vehicles. There was a recall in 2017 for this problem for vehicles built during the time period that ours was built, but according to Ford, ours was not involved in that recall (nhsta id #18v390000). In 2018, Ford added a recall on 25 additional vehicles because they found that more defective transmissions had been installed than initially thought (nhsta id#17v427000). Ours was also not one of those identified. Our vehicle had 67,032 miles when the torque converter failed in exactly the fashion described in the recall. Ford refused to cover the repair as the vehicle was past the warranty mileage and Ford wanted close to $5,000 to repair the transmission on this two year old vehicle. I am certain that this issue is the exact issue that affected vehicles manufactured during the same time frame with exactly the same transmission. The service manager at the dealership I was towed to agreed that I had the exact same issue as was identified, but told me there was nothing they could do to escalate the concerns I had. I am convinced that Ford is downplaying the number of vehicles affected and am certain that this will impact more 2017 Ford Edge vehicles. I have repeatedly reached out to Ford and they refused to even open a case in to my concerns. My vehicle was towed to ted britt Ford in chantilly va (703-673-2300). They were of absolutely no help in addressing any of my concerns, but should be contacted to confirm that the issue was just as described in the recall. This is an issue that can have life threatening consequences.

Warning light came on. Read, torque converter clutch circuit performance or stuck off. .
At less than 40,000 miles the car started making a very load rattling noise when idling. The next day I took it to the Ford dealership. 5 days later they said it was a cracked flywheel caused by an issue with the torque converter.
This time the check engine and wrench light went off while driving. It has been in the shop for 3 weeks. Solenoid, computer, torque converter. Still not back. Has a rattling sound in the dash.
Ford recall 17s16; NHTSA campaign 17v427. The recall letter, dated July 10, 2017 under the signature of michael a. Berardi subject: new vehicle demonstration/delivery hold instructs the dealers to not demonstrate or sell affected vehicles until repairs have been made. I purchased this vehicle at bill pierre Ford, seattle, on August 19, 2017 after locating it myself at epic Ford, everett, washington. . No mention was made of this recall and I found out about it in early October when I changed the mycarfax Smart phone app to this VIN number. A. The vehicle should have been flagged by Ford. B. It should not have been sold to me prior to repair. C. I, and my passengers were exposed to possible dangerous circumstances up to death had this torque converter failed and engine power was lost at high speeds. D. I have never received a recall notice from Ford. I worked with bill pierre service department to get this repair done. It took a month to get the parts and get the vehicle repaired. The July 10 letter notes federal law requires the repairs be made before sale with a violation up to $21000. I do not know if this failure was administrative or willful malfeasance, but the exposure to hazardous circumstances is despicable. The Ford. Oemdtc. Com site no longer shows 17s16, I have a paper copy.
Mfg recall #17s16 NHTSA recall # 17v427 Ford inc has been unable to complete the replacement of the torque converter on our new 2017 Ford Edge in a timely manner. Driving aprox. 40 mph wrench light comes on, call dealership to see what would cause it. They say to keep driving until the check engine light comes on and then bring it into be checked (100. 00). Check engine light came on 3 days later, I had a little computer it read code p0744, torque converter clutch circuit intermittent, generic code for power train problem. Took it to Ford dealership they said their computer was reading that code as well as needing a new pcm (powertrain control module). This is costing aprox. $655. 00 and they are not sure if that is the only thing it needs, once this is fixed the computer could read something else. The dealership also gave us a printout stating this is a common and known problem with the Ford Edge 2011-2012. Called Ford corp. They were not very helpful other than suggesting filing a complaint. We were told this problem could shut the car down completely while driving, it makes me a little scared to drive it, I don't need it breaking down with my child in the car. Not happy with paying $100. 00 to be told it's going to cost another $650. 00 and it may not even fix the problem.

Went from reverse to forward, acted like there were no lower gears. Was able to limp home about 1 mile. Put it into reverse, loud bang, shook entire car, backed into car port, shutoff car, then no restart. Massive amount of obd codes, had mechanic remove transmission, torque converter failure and thrust bearing destroyed, I feel very lucky that transmission didn't fail on highway causing me to have an accident on my way to work as a childrens swim instructor.

Since 11/2012 trembling/shudder to the engine when vehicle accelerates between 45-50mph (torque converter) or replace transmission recommended by service center on 10/16/2013. On 1/31/2013 recall service completed on my vehicle malfunction indicator lamp (mil) on with diagnostic trouble codes powertrain control module (pcm) with 1 or more damaged coil(s) on plugs.
3 week old sel Ford Edge, with automatic transmission, rolls back while in the drive gear on any slight incline. Nearly hit car in front of me quickly switching to gas pedal from brakes to avoid hitting car behind me on incline in stop & go rush hour traffic. Safety issue for driving on slight inclines, in hilly areas, parking on any slight incline, and valet parking. Complained to dealer, but dealer says it's normal due to the torque converter selected by Ford.
