1 Transmission Failure problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 06/03/2020

On June 3, 2020 my 2008 Ford Edge experienced sudden transmission failure while driving on a busy 5 lane highway which could have resulted in injury or death. Thankfully, my wife was able to get it off the roadway. It was then towed to a repair shop. There were no warning signs leading up to this transmission failure. The car was well maintained primarily through a Ford dealership and certified mechanics. The vehicle has only 96000 original miles. After a short internet search, it became painfully obvious that this was a well documented shortcoming of the 2008 Ford Edge. I contacted the local Ford dealership who verified that they were aware of this issue with the 2008 Edge, "but Ford has not recalled it yet". I then contacted Ford motor company on June 5th who also admitted that they were aware of sudden transmission failure in the 2008 Edge but have not recalled them as of this time. This is a serious, potentially life threatening manufacture defect that is being ignored by the Ford motor company. It is also costly to the consumer. Estimated cost to repair this through Ford with a rebuilt transmission is over $5000. Prior to this episode, we were pleased with this vehicle. However, we now question the moral decision making by Ford motor company in choosing to ignore this potential life threatening manufacture defect. I suggest that there be an immediate recall and reimbursement to customers for transmission failure in the 2008 Ford Edge.

Failure Date: 04/26/2020

From a stop or at low speeds the SUV lunges forward without warning. This has happened several times over the past few months. When SUV was purchased new; the transmission failed and I was without a car for theee weeks. I have maintained the SUV and all issued recalls have been fixed. This is a major issue and anytime I take it to Ford dealership they find no issue. Let me tell you; this is an issue! my last three vehicles have been Fords and would appriciate this issue be solved.

5 Transmission Failure problem of the 2015 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 03/06/2017

Reverse aid camera randomly turns on while the car is in motion. When this happens the transmission appears to lurch as if the traction control system is adjusting the spin of the front tires. We have had this into the dealership multiple times and they have even replaced the camera and the issue still happens. We are concerned that the transmission may fail to operate normally under load when attempting to accelerate.

9 Transmission Failure problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 05/19/2015

Vehicle transmission failed in highway speed traffic ,starting with large clunks and erratic shifting, total loss of acceleration ,leading to very unsafe travel on freeway. No shoulder on road, stopped with no power to transmission . State police cordoned off the area enough for tow 45 min. Later . Still having problems with erratic stopping and going, sometimes you have to go to 3000 rpm until trans mission catches and causes unsafe acceleration . Only 50k on vehicle and Ford does not acknowledge a problem ,many other complaints and video found on the web you-tube and such . How many complaints or injury's before a recall? please respond. Thank you!.

10 Transmission Failure problem of the 2007 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 06/17/2013

I have been experiencing very odd unexplainable events with my 2007 Ford Edge since fall of 2012 which has now resulted in full failure of my transmission. Beginning in the fall, my Edge started to give me warning messages on my electronic dash panel reading "tire pressure monitor fault", once put in reverse, the car would make a violent jerking motion and loud ugly sound. The message on the dash would then change to read "odb data error". The wrench and airbag icons would be lit. After shifting to drive, the car sounded as if it was in high gear, but it would refuse to accelerate to a fast speed. Once driving, the speedometer would not register speed, it would sit at 0 mph. The digital odometer failed to display anything. As I drove, the transmission would not shift or it would seem to try to shift and then the car would make the same violent jerking motion as I experienced when I put it in reverse. If I stopped, it would be difficult to get the car moving, it wouldn't want to move/accelerate. The car would also make unexpected lunging movements while driving. The car would also on occasion suddenly stop accelerating while driving, almost as if it had automatically shifted into low gear. This happened to me several times while driving on the expressway. Not safe! on Monday, June 17, 2013, my transmission failed completely. Unacceptable for a car my age! as I have begun to investigate this problem on the web, to my surprise, this problem is extensive. Ford owners have been complaining about this for years, yet Ford has failed to recognize this problem with a recall. Help! this problem is costly and potentially hazardous!!!.
