Failure Date: 06/10/2002

Driver side view mirror glass shakes and flutters when driving on highways. Driver cannot safely trust mirror for rear and side views of highway traffic on driver side of auto due to the constant shaking of the mirror. Dealer replaced entire driver side view mirror, however, the safety defect continues to persist and driver still cannot be assured of rear and side views of highway traffic on driver side. The dealer says that Ford knows there is a problem and states "normal" body vibration may cause this exciting the mirror glass. This is not a "normal" body vibration. What is normal about an engineering design defect that causes the driver side view mirror glass to shake and flutter when driving at highway speeds? Ford advises dealers (oasis report, system code 10300-body mirrors, special service message #15995) that engineering is currently investigating through the "quicker service fix (qsf) process. " Ford states that additional information is expected to be released during the 3rd quarter of 2002.
