Lose Power Steering Problems of Ford Escape - part 2

Power steering lost intermittently. Power steering module assembly was fixed under recall in 2015 but has failed again. Ford wont stand by the part they fixed it with. This is a major safety concern on the road when you lose power steering due to a failed part.

Without notice, it started my vehicle and received a "steering assist fault" message and lost all power steering. One mechanic said that it was a Ford software update that wasn't compatible with my electronic steering. I took it to Ford dealership and they said the rack and pinion gear was the problem. $2,000 repair.

While I was driving I heard a click and lost my power steering. It came back and then off again. I had to pull over and turn off my ignition. I waited a few minutes and re-started it, it again kept going back and forth between power and manual steering while driving at 35 mph down back roads to my home.

I drove for approx. 1 hr and then stopped at a grocery store, turning off my vehicle. After about 10 minutes, I went to leave and started my vehicle and lost all power steering. The vehicle remained in this state, for approx. 1 hr while driving home.

While driving along 2 lane roadway at 45 mph immediately lost power steering, this nearly caused a head on collision.

Message saying "power steering assist fault" then lost all power steering. Started car up to drive, message came on message center, went to move vehicle, then had no power steering and went straight out into road. Needs to be covered under the recall, since it is exactly what the recall is.

2008 Ford Escape recall for power asst fault recall was performed in 2015 and now it has failed again, Ford will not cover it again ? spoke to Ford's today 01/22/2019 said sorry but we will not help you!!! I was driving got 2 dings and then a shutter and the warring light came on lost power steering and the message was power steering asst fault on city street in roseville mi.

Last winter I came out of work to go home. Went to leave and I had no power steering, I had to drive home very carefully, took it to my mechanic and the torque sensor needed to be replaced. Replaced that. It worked for about 7 months then lost power steering again. This time it is the steering column. The part is $1,200 plus ta, this is my mechanics cost!! I dont have money to replace this, I am a single mother and have put more than $7,000 in this truck if I could get rid of it I would. I owe too much money on it!.

I was on my to work one morning entering the interstate on ramp and I lost power steering which almost caused me to have an accident. Making it extremely hard to steer the vehicle. Upon taking it to my local Ford dealership they told me my power steering torque control module was failing. This was a recall on Escapes from 2008 / 2011, but they said my particular VIN was not part of the recall??? upon further investigation myself I'm seeing where numerous Ford owners were having the same issue and like myself had to pay for this repair out of pocket. . . Not cheap I may add. It seems that someone will have to loose their life as a result of this defect before a recall is issued for (all) models in this time frame. . . What a horrible thing for Ford to put their consumers and their families in jepordy due to these defective parts. I would like to see full recall on all models between this time frame. Also vehicles to be fixed at Fords expense before someone looses a loved one. And reimburse those of us who have had it fixed at our expense. . . .

While driving lost power steering. No lights or codes. Was driving highway and in town. Had power steering then it just quit almost wrecked.

Was driving vehicle in city, suddenly lost power steering, nearly wrecking. I got car to mechanic, he said the steering shaft torque sensor was bad. He also stated that there was a recall from Ford for this. I called Ford because the year and model did match the recall. #14s05. I was told by Ford that this vehicle was not covered. I reluctantly paid out of pocket to repair because this was dangerous. I do find it coincidental that there was a recall for this same exact thing on this vehicle, but was told this one was not covered any help would be appreciated, this is an unsafe condition.

The car was in motion on a county rd and I lost power steering. After getting off the road and parking the car I could not get it out of the parking space. I had to call my daughter to do it. I was told the car was recalled and I had it done Aug of 2014. They must of replaced it with the same faulty part because 4 years later the same part went it cost me $1,290. 38 to replace it. Lost power steering while driving making it difficult to steer.

On 10/25/2018, my daughter was driving her 2008 Ford Escape and the steering wheel became extremely difficult to turn. She completely lost power steering. This occurred in traffic and she was not able to continue steering the car. No warnings or codes appeared. This was a very dangerous and scary situation that could have resulted in her having an accident and perhaps killing someone or herself. The vehicle was towed to a dealership in birmingham, al (long-lewis Ford) and diagnosed with code b2278/needs steering column assembly. I immediately started contacting Ford as this was certainly a safety issue. After talking with a supervisor, they informed me that safety recall 14s05 was completed on the car on July 2014, 2018 at Ford square of mount vernon in mount vernon, IL so there were no recalls available at the time. I proceeded to contact that dealership and found out that they only reprogrammed the pscm since the car didn't have a fault code. I did not own the car during this time since I purchased it 5 months later. Intermittent issues occurred after the purchase while traveling on the highway but were told by the dealership that everything was ok. Again, no warnings or codes appeared. I have been told by Ford mechanics that the reprogramming of the pscm removed Ford from responsibility and now owners are stuck with an expensive car repair. Several dealerships have stated that Ford was negligent in correcting the problem and now more cars are starting to see the problem and causing everybody on the road to be at risk of an accident, possibly resulting in death. The car has 113,000 miles on it and it will be repaired at long-lewis Ford at my expense which is very costly. The car was assembled at the kansas city plant which was the subject of the recall.

Lost power steering assist for a couple of seconds making a right turn at lower speed. After sitting for 10 hours, started car and had no power steering assist when backing up. Vehicle has recall 14s05. Recall is as follows: if vehicle has code b2278, replace power steering torque sensor. If vehicle has code b3142 or b2277, replace steering assembly. If no codes stored, reprogram pscm and ic module. My car had no codes June 2016 and reprograming was done. Two years later, I have no power steering and code b2278. Power steering torque sensor is defective. Dealer/manufacturer states recall was already done and will not perform sensor replacement.

Loss of power steering. Ford closed the recall on the vehicle after having it checked but nothing had been replaced. Now vehicle loses power steering in the middle of a turn and Ford refuses to make updates to replace the steering column or update the software. All american Ford in paramus, NJ agreed that my vehicle should be fixed under the recall but Ford corporation refused to reopen the recall even though nothing had ever been replaced or repaired under the recall. Recall number is 14s05.

Was in ohio, rainy day, tried to make a left turn and lost power steering. Very difficult to turn the wheel and thankfully didn't hit anything. Parked, looked to see if it was regular power steering (where I could find a place to add fluid if it was low-came to realize my car has an eps system), ate lunch and when I came back after letting the car sit for about half an hour power steering was active and responsive again. Was fine on trip back to michigan but wondering when it is going to go out on me again.

Lost power steering while driving to work. The car is extremely difficult to steer at this time. I found a recall (14s05) for steering problems with my year Ford Escape, but my VIN is not affected. How can that be, Ford? stand by your product!!.

I lost power steering while driving on a highway. It happened unexpectedly and it caused the steering wheel to jerk on me.

Tracking #11113388 filed 7/24/18 update. Lost use of power steering making it impossible to steer in and out of parking spaces. Car initially taken to firestone who contacted Ford with diagnostic and told to replace sensor- this did not correct problem. Firestone referred us back to Ford repair due to the complaints on file and recall on sensor/software. Car taken to Ford; after diagnostic- steering column needed replacing at a cost to the owner of $1600; work completed.

Lost my power steering as I was driving at a high rate of speed almost rolled and crashed the vehicle. This is a known problem and Ford I s simply doing nothing about it. Please do something before someone gets badly hurt or killed. This vehicle was taken into the dealer for a recall 14s05 on Jan. 1st 2018. They simply did a computer update and this did not repair the vehicle. Someone needs to hold Ford accountable.

Luckily my wife was driving at a slow rate of speed and only a block from the house, when with no warning lost power steering. The dash lit up with power steering assist fault. After researching I found many instances of this happening and fire having a recall on 2008-2011 Ford Escapes. Once going to my local Ford service center I was informed that my vehicle was not one of them. Clearly a safety issue they need to fess up to.

Vehicle loses power steering without notice; vehicle was stationary, I started it and received an error message that power steering failed. This happened twice. I read several related reports on this website and online and also saw there was a recall for this issue in previous year models. Dealership did not warn me.

Car lost power steering while driving.

2010 Ford Escape. Consumer writes in regards to issues with steering. The consumer requested for NHTSA to hold a public hearing to resolve power steering issues. The vehicle would consistently lose power steering while driving.

Steering wheel started to shake when stopped,with brake pedal depressed. A few hundred miles later lost power steering. Also transmission downshifts hard, also noticeable clunk when shifting from park to reverse.

I was driving my 2010 Ford Escape when I all of a sudden lost power steering while turning with no warning. I was able to pull off on the side of the road then my Escape began to make a "dinging" noise repeatedly after the vehicle was stopped and put in park. The car then showed "power steering assist fault" . My Escape has not had power steering since this incident. I called the dealership I purchased the Escape from and they informed that the power steering assist recall had been satisfied prior to me purchasing it with the reprogram and nothing replaced. I then called Ford customer care who confirmed this information and that I would have to pay for the repair myself since the recall was already satisfied with the reprogram. When running a code scanner it comes back as the torque sensor code. I am currently barely able to drive the vehicle without the power steering and unable to afford the $1500-$2000 repair that I was told "might work" by the dealership.

The vehicle was not towed. The vehicle was taken to sunrise Ford of north hollywood (5500 lankershim blvd, hollywood, CA), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

Tl the contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. While driving 50 mph, the contact lost power steering ability without warning. The dealer (hub city Ford, 2909 NW evangeline throughway, lafayette, la 70507, (337) 233-4500) was contacted to schedule an appointment for repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact to call NHTSA to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 132,000.

My 17yr old son was driving his car home from school when he could not barely turn off highway. He lost all power steering. His car was not part of original recall. I called Ford and they told me to hold onto receipts in case his car is included in next recall. There was no prior warnings when it failed. It could have caused a major accident!.

Was driving on spring garden street. . . Turning left on columbus blvd. . . There was a strange beep noise from dash area . . Than lost power steering. The warning 'power steering assist failure' popped up on screen. Was very hard to steer. . . And almost impossible to park.
