Power steering went out while driving. Canister purge valve and entire steering column was replaced.
Steering column began to loosen and shake, impairing steering ability. Mechanic said the problem was with the electronic power steering (code b2278), which was covered by recall 14s05, which included the factory and year of my vehicle. However Ford says this recall was VIN-specific, so they would only repair some of the vehicles with this problem.
Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. While driving at 20 mph, the contact stated that their power steering went bad. The contact almost ran into the curb as they applied extra strength when turning. No warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic. The vehicle was diagnosed and the test read that steering shaft torque sensor. A new steering column was needed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and the told the contact to call NHTSA and file a complaint. The failure mileage was 89,540. Jw.
The power steering went out. The wheel had been shuddering for a few weeks and gradually getting worse. While driving down the highway the power steering suddenly went out. I had to get the entire power steering column and parts replaced. My mechanic said that Ford recalled all power steering in cars made from 2008-2011, but for some reason my car did not have a recall even though it was made during those years.

I stopped to parallel park on a busy main street in downtown clovis. As I was backing and turning into a a parking space between two parked vehicles the power steering quit working without any warning. I was not able to turn tight enough to park into the space. All I could do was to pull out and slowly drive half a block to a large half empty parking lot where I had allot more room to maneuver. I was able to park there and we had to walk back to the restaurant to eat. When we returned to our vehicle and after I started it, I found the power steering was working again. I drove to the closest Ford dealership that was also where we had purchased our Escape from. I went inside to talk with a service writer. I told him about the recall 14s05 and that was the problem I was having. I informed him that the steering column had been replaced before in 2012 due to a steering problem. We never received a recall from Ford over the issue in 2014. He checked our VIN number and said they couldn't do anything for us under the recall. He said I could try to contact Ford motor company and see if they were able to do anything for us.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Ford Escape. While driving 60 mph, the steering wheel seized and the power steering warning indicator illuminated. Electric power assist failed twice with no warning upon start up, causing the power steering to default to manual control, basically could not be steered. Steering column had to be replaced. Never received any notification regarding the recall that was done on this issue for a 2009 Escape. Total repair cost incurred 1,358. 86.
Steering wheel started making a clunk noise sometimes when turning. Driving yesterday the steering got very stiff. Parked the steering would be hard. There was a recall #14s05 may 29 2014. When I called Ford they said my car is not on recall list. Same problem eps -electric power steering assist, torque sensor in steering column or updated software needed. It's very hard to turn the wheel when driving. It should be on recall list . It's a safety hazard.

The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the contact would be responsible for the repair cost. The failure mileage was 149,000.
The steering column is bad and needs replacing and the steering assist relay module and wheel position sensor, this is identical to the models produced at the kansas city plant. My son was driving and the electric steering assist went totally out and required extreme force to turn the vehicle safely. This could have had life threatening potential had he not maintained control.

Exiting highway when power steering was lost. Pulled over to side of road and shut off vehicle for a minute or less. Restarted vehicle and power steering resumed. Contacted dealer they said bring it in for inspection. Could find no faults. Said steering column would need replacing but wasn't covered by recall for same problem because recall stopped in 2014. This is a known problem with this vehicle and definitely a safety problem. Ford should still be responsible for this defect and to fix it. Vehicle has only 52000 miles on it. Vehicle was in motion when this happened. Vehicle was serviced for recall in 2014 but no problem was found at that time.
I was driving on a highway and made a left turn, while steering turning back to the right it felt as though it wanted to lock but eventually broke and went to normal. This has happened 4 different times since vehicle purchased. Took it to my local Ford dealership in fredericksburg, va, they told me after testing, I needed a steering column epas at the tune of $1400. They said you could not just replace the epas part on my particular vehicle and it was not one of the ones recalled earlier. After looking online and checking with another dealer, I have learned that the epas part can be replaced but apparently Ford will not let their service techs just replace that part. This is not right, I have paid a lot for this vehicle, new, and the replacement of that steering is more than I receive a month from disability. Thankfully I have not been in a situation of an accident. What can we as consumers do to demand that Ford take ownership and help out their loyal customers? I am loosing more and more faith in Ford (3 out of my 4) service visits showed that the service tech put a check mark that the power steering fluid was ok?????? another problem, in Feb. 2018 service visit, they said my tread was in the yellow. Back again for service in Aug. 2018, showed tread in green??? this is why I went back for this check up on all things at not charge after speaking to the service manager. If I had not taken it back for a revisit, I probably would not have found out about the steering! I will say my last visit was the best I have had to date, thanks to the service tech. Still I am not sure I would every purchase another Ford!.
After completing my shopping at fred meyer, I went to start my vehicle and noticed that the power steering wasn't working. I was stationary waiting to back out of my parking space. I tried a couple of times to shut the vehicle off and restart it to see if that would fix the problem. It did not. I was able to drive home with much difficulty trying to steer, but got it home safely. I called my local Ford dealer and they told me it was probably the electric steering had gone out. I was told it will cost me around $1200. 00 to repair. The steering column needs to be replaced. Ford has had a problem with this for a long time. I had a 2010 Ford Escape that had the same thing happen to it. I spent the money to fix that one. I really feel it is unfair that I have to repeat the same thing over again with this 2011. This is a total danger for anyone driving it and Ford needs to repair this before anyone gets seriously hurt in an accident. Ford should have to recall this vehicle and make the necessary repairs so that this does not happen again. I do ask that you intervene and make Ford recall and fix this issue. There is a recall on 2011 Ford Escapes for this, recall number 14v284000, but it does not cover the date of manufacture for my particular vehicle. This recall should include more vehicles that were manufactured at a later date.
My power steering went out while I was driving to work. I was pulling into a parking garage. Luckily I was not on the freeway. I started the car about 3 hours later and it was fine. I took it to the dealership and they said it was the torque sensor. I mentioned the recall on the 2011s and the guy blew it off. . . Thankfully they didn't have to replace the whole steering column. It would have been 2500. 00. Instead it only cost me 775. 00.

My daughter started to drive her car when the steering quit working. I drove it home without the power assist. It was hard to turn. Now I need a new steering column. This failed without warning and had no codes able to read on a code reader. Had to take dealer to use a Ford computer to read what is going on.
Epas (power steering column) went out, not covered in past recall - many other people having powering issues with these Fords. . . Should be included in the recall!.

When driving my car at low speeds, the power steering unit locks up randomly and unpredictably especially when attempting to make a turn. After contacting Ford about the issue, I learned that there was a large recall for Escapes from 2008-2011 made at the kansas city plant, where my Escape was produced at according to my VIN number. However, when contacting Ford about this issue I was having, they said that my VIN did not qualify for a recall because my car was not produced in the same "batch" that the recall is for. This is a danger to both myself and the public because being unable to turn my steering wheel is a huge safety concern. After taking my car to a mechanic they explained that my steering column is broken, which appears happens fairly often to this model of Escapes.
Tl the contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. While driving 40 mph, the steering wheel seized. The contact was able to pull the vehicle over safely into a parking lot. The contact waited for a moment and was able to drive home. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to beau townsend Ford (1020 w national rd, vandalia, OH 45377, (937) 898-5841) where the power steering was reset. The dealer diagnosed that a new steering column needed to be installed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was 160,000.
A few days ago while driving on local roads at approx 30 mph, the power steering cut out and the battery light lit. I pulled over re-started car, drove another 2 miles and same happened while going around a bend in road causing me to partially go into oncoming lane. This happened 3 more times while bringing car to repair shop and now told I need a complete steering column due to all computerized steering controls being located in the column. Is Ford doing anything to rectify this obvious common and dangerous problem ? I am the original owner of this vehicle.
The power steering intermently goes out it either works when I start the car or it doesn't. I was told I have to replace the entire steering column since that is where all of the electrical parts are located. Ford says this is not under there recall and it will be $1350 to replace. This seems to be an issue from what I am seeing Ford wants to take no responsibility for this.

My daughter would initially have to turn the car on and off anywhere from 8-30 times to try to get the power steering to kick in but eventually she was driving and it just stopped working for good. Though power steering shows as , "fixed" after a software update on 2014,my daughter was nearly in a fatal accident when the power steering went suddenly. I saw that there were two possible error codes-one was a software code which that software update would fix but if you have the issue with two different codes then the whole steering column has toeplaced. We have both codes and yet Ford denied it because of the plant at which it was made. It did say though that some cars made at our plant were included in the second recall. I am certain it slipped through the cracks, as have many others I'm sure. I want Ford to stand by its product and I don't want some other family to find out when their daughter does die in an accident. Please review all cars that should be included.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. While driving 10 mph, the steering wheel seized and would not turn. The car steering column started to lock up while it was parked when you start the car the steering wheel wouldn't turn after awhile it would you were able to turn on the car in the steering wheel were function after a while the car would do it while driving the car was brought over to the dealership steering column was replaced a few months later same issues steering wheel column or steering wheel would hit when turned brought back to the dealership it was replaced the second time now all electronics relating to the brakes are having issues like brake switch starts to malfunction or brakes get locked up. The car would have troubles either parked or while driving. I bought the car from a dealership so I'm not sure if this car had prior issues to that nothing was disclosed when I purchased it. I am aware of other Ford Escape 2009 models have the same issue and have been recalled.
Steering became very difficult while driving on hwy at 65 mph . Took to nearest shop . No lights came on dash . When arrived at shop steering was in possible . Replaced sensor . Steering wheel would spin out of control on own . Ended up having to replace entire steering column.
