Steering Is Tight Problems of Ford Escape - part 2

Steering wheel was hard to steer for a couple of days. I thought it was just from the cold weather. I could hear a grinding sound when I backed the car out of my garage. Took my car to the dealer and they have to replace 3 different parts in the steering. It is going to cost me $2000. 00 I don't think a car that is only 3 years old should have this problem and I am not very happy.

Tl-the contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated that when the vehicle was ignited, the power steering seized and the steering wheel was hard to maneuver. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it repaired under NHTSA campaign number; 14v284000 (steering) however, the failure recurred on several ocassions. Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. The contact stated that there was no electric power steering safety concern before the recall was performed, however after the recall repair the power steering sensor illuminated, the steering wheel was tight and extremely difficult to steer. The contact was included in NHTSA campaign id number: 14v284000 (steering) and the authorized dealer indicated that they recalibrated the torque sensor and did not replace it because they found no fault code. The vehicle was taken back to the authorized dealer four days later because a fault code was shown. The power steering sensor illuminated and the authorized dealer failed to remedy the recall repair once the contact actually had experienced the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 46,068. Dyd.

While backing from a drive the traction control light came on and I lost power/electronic steering. I have driven older vehicles without power steering but this was twice as hard to turn. I had to drive home and had to make sure traffic was clear at intersections to avoid other traffic when turning since I could not avoid going into opposing lanes. Reset itself later but went back out a week later while driving approximately 35 much and hit a small amount of slush. Limped it to the dealership. Had my wife been driving she probably would not have been able to control it. Reviews online show this is not an isolated problem and has been happening since at least 2008 that I can see. Although it did not result in a crash the possibility does increase if this happened at higher speeds.

While setting at a handicap space after eating. I started my car and the steering was hard to steer going into reverse or forward. It still hasn't come back to me yet after setting for a whole day. The only thing that I did before parking was go over a speed bump with one side of the car and making one turn after 50 yards of straight driving to the space.

My wife was driving in our neighbor at 25 mph when the steering went out. She was able to get home and park since she was close by. The steering was very hard to turn left or right. This morning when we started the car to take it to the dealer the steering was working. The car is currently at the dealer for testing. The temperature was 80 degrees so clearly cold was not a factor. Thank goodness this did not happen on the freeway in traffic.

Electrically assisted steering is hard on turns on winding roads. Had car to 2 different dealers and they say the steering is normal. It did not feel this way when it was new.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving the steering wheel was hard to maneuver and it was making a squeaky noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that in order to remedy the failure the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The remedy failed to repair the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 2,500 and current mileage was 5,000.

Consumer noticed that the steering was very tight and was having trouble keeping the vehicle on the road. Nlm.
