Equipment Problems of Ford F-150 - part 1

Driving at normal rate of speed around a right hand turn. Truck spontaneously downshifted in the turn causing tires to spin. Back end of truck slid sideways as the road was wet at the time. Luckily there was a gap between oncoming traffic or there would have been an accident. After regaining control of the vehicle, a wrench icon appears on the dashboard, then the airbag icon lights up. My speedometer/ odometer/ fuel economy gauges are not working. I pulled off the road for safety. Change plans to turn around and go back home versus continue on my 45 minute drive to my appointment. This happened only 3 miles from my home. My truck had little power on acceleration when going back home. After hours of searching online it appears it could be the molded leadframe. It also appears there was a consumer program from Ford to fix this issue, however, I was told by Ford that they do not notify customers that are affected by this and that the program has expired. This vehicle is currently in the shop and the tech is saying we may have to have a transmission replacement. The tech also stated that Ford knows there is a issues with these transmissions and they have not corrected it or made any improvements. Also, Ford will not issue a recall. The vehicle has a very hard shift and is dangerous to drive and it also completely shut down on us, putting our life in danger. We do all the proper maintenance and upkeep on the vehicle at a Ford dealership. This issue is very disappointing as these are "american made" vehicles.

My truck randomly downshifts and abruptly slows vehicle when driving.

While driving at a 40+ mph speed the truck suddenly downshift to 1st gear and all gauges stop working. 3rd will downshift to 1st and 5th to 3rd.

As reported. While driving the vehicle at night the driver noticed smoke externally behind the truck, upon pulling over smoke started to enter the cab through the dash vents. The driver immediately exited the vehicle went to the front of the vehicle and opened the hood and smoke came from the engine compartment. A flame/fire could be seen in the engine compartment. 911 emergency services were called. In that time the truck engine compartment and cab burned completely.

Door locks freeze open in cold weather due to a spring issue that freezes up with very little moisture. It has happened multiple times over the last couple years. Basically, you open the door and when you go to close, the door latch doesn't engage. Here is a video that shows the issue in detail. My husband was shoveling snow off of our vehicles and seen smoke coming from under the hood of his truck. When he opened the hood the truck was on fire on the right side. The truck was turned off when this happened. He threw snow on top of it to put the fire out and unplugged the battery to prevent further fire damage.

After operating the vehicle normally and backing into a parking space, I stopped the vehicle and selected park, turned the vehicle off, and exited. Before the driver’s door was closed, the vehicle began to roll forward unexpectedly. I ran back to the vehicle and reentered it to regain control, with the driver’s door still open and the seatbelt not fastened. After stopping the vehicle, I selected reverse, at which point the vehicle surged backward unexpectedly. The open driver’s door struck another vehicle and the driver, and my vehicle continued backward, colliding with a fence and then a tree. The vehicle did not behave as expected after park was selected, creating a serious safety risk to myself and others. Several vehicle systems appeared to malfunction or fail during the incident. The specific component or system responsible is not yet known, and the vehicle is currently available for inspection. The incident resulted in property damage and back pain, for which I later sought medical care. The vehicle has been inspected by a collision repair facility and is currently being handled through insurance. The manufacturer has been informed and stated that insurance should make determinations regarding the incident.

The power moon roof components are made from plastic, which over time have cracked from sun exposure. When the rail system cracked, it caused the sliding glass panel to become loose and rattle around while driving. It also allows water to enter the inside of the vehicle when it rains, causing damage to electrical components.

While using the vehicle’s bluecruise driver assistance system, the driver monitoring system generates frequent false driver-attention alerts despite normal posture and active attention to the roadway. The system often fails to recognize attentive driving unless the driver deliberately exaggerates head position or facial expression. Routine and unavoidable behaviors—including briefly touching the face, wiping the nose, or checking side-view mirrors for traffic—frequently trigger alerts, even though these actions are part of safe driving. These false positives create alert fatigue and increased cognitive load, forcing the driver to divert attention from driving to manage the monitoring system itself. The intrusiveness of the alerts becomes distracting and undermines the intended safety benefit of the system. Due to the frequency of false alerts, the driver is often compelled to disengage bluecruise entirely. I am concerned the current driver-monitoring calibration may inadvertently increase distraction for attentive drivers and warrants review. This is realted to the 10 speed transmission. The vehicle started to downshift hard. I parked it at home and went to move it and it would not move. I had it towed to my locall Ford dealer where thy told me I needed a complete new transmission totally $9500!!!!.

No incident yet, but the frame is rotted.

While driving at any speed, 55 , 65 my truck downshift to 1st gear. It locks up the back tires and the truck starts squealing. And sometimes while driving it just jumps into limp mode into 3rd or 5th gear and it wont come out of 3rd or 5th gear. I do understand there is a recall for this but Ford is telling me my truck is not included in the recall.

Front driver side and passenger side door latches that freeze and do not latch when shut.

I was driving to work early in the morning on [xxx], approximately 6:30 am, when all of suddenly I heard a loud bang and I could no longer accelerate my vehicle. I was fortunate enough to have the time to steer off to the shoulder of the highway. I got out of my vechile and my drive shaft was hanging off, broken and twisted. I called a tow truck and got it told to the Ford dealership in independence, were I bought my vehicle. After a Ford mechanic inspected my vechile the total cost was 8,500 dollars for the repairs. My vehicle warranty was not able to cover that cost because it was over by 5,000 miles. I tow the vehicle to my house to get the opinions of other mechanics to see if they're able to fix the truck. After the mechanics looked at the damage, they all said that it looked like a fabrication issue or a recall. A drive shaft should not just fall off from a 2022 F-150 truck with the mileage the vehicle has. Also, the rear ends of trucks usually last at least 300,00 miles, and that part was destroyed in my vehicle. My drive shaft looks like it exploded in a unatual fashion. I have attached photos of the damages of the vehicles to provide a visual image of what the mechanic saw. I purchased this newer model truck, so I would not be in this situation. I have made all my monthly payments on time and have kept up with all the maintenance required. I am currently renting a vehicle from enterprise to get to work, and I would love to get out of this situation. I was lucky enough for my car insurance company to cover most of the cost and for me not to sustain any injuries. I believe it would have been a different story if it had happened during heavy traffic elsewhere, where I could not pull over on the side of the road, my life could have been seriously at risk. When temperatures are below freezing, the passenger side door remains locked, and cannot be unlocked with the key fob or the unlock buttons on either the driver side or passenger side door. The manual door lock cannot be pulled out, as it sinks down inside the door, and there is no external locking/unlocking mechanism to use the key to manually unlock the passenger side door. Dealer said there was nothing wrong with it, but brought it into the shop to look at it, where the temperature is higher than freezing.

On 1/6 2026 and again on 1/19/2026 the vehicle camera display turned blue while the vehicle was operating in reverse. The camera eventually returned to normal operation. The condition cannot be reproduced on demand.

I received a recall on my 2022 Ford f150 vehicle stating that the wheel end hub bolt in the rear axle may become loose or break. Continued use of the vehicle can cause damages to other vehicles and/or cause crashes. I tried to have this repaired when I received a recall notice back in November 2025 but they were unable to help. I dropped my vehicle off on 1/6/26 for recall repair and they are telling me there are no parts available and won't get a new update letter until 4th quarter 2026. I did ask about providing a rental in the meantime they immediately denied my request. At this time I do not feel safe removing my vehicle from the lot or driving it. I spoke with earl at Ford recall assistance center on 1/23/26 (ref call number: [xxx]) . I can not go without a vehicle, this is absolutely unacceptable and I am submitting this complaint and will be moving forward with legal counsel. I was driving on highway at 60 mph when drivers side rear window suddenly shattered. It was very confusing what was going on until my wife said that the window shattered. Luckily, no on was in that seat since there was glass everywhere. I dont believe anything hit the window, there was no indication something was wrong intil the shatter noise.

I first received notification from Ford concerning this safety recall but despite calls to numerous dealers throughout the area no parts as as yet , January 5th, are available to make the repairs. It has been 8 months since the safety recall was sent out. This is well past a reasonable time for Ford to have the parts available.

Rear-end. The rear drivers side tire fell off while driving on a side street. With no noise or wobble or evidence of a problem. 2 days earlier my family and I were going 70 on an express way. Upon shops inspection the bearing was no longer working but wheel kept rolling, it egged out the housing of the axle shaft and heated up that point of axle and snapped the shaft at that spot. I was driving down the high way going about 40 to 50 mph and it suddenly shifted down into 1st gear making my tires lock up and then the engine light came on with the out put speed sensor code.

When driving the truck, the rpms will randomly jump up and down without accelerating or shifting gears. At times it will also randomly shift when it doesn't need to shift. It downshifts more than it upshifts. This happens at a steady cruise down a highway and sometimes it is like it takes a minute or two to figure out which gear it actually needs to be in. It seems like the transmission may not be communicating well or something. I am worried that I will pull away from a red light one day and it will decide it doesn't want to shift at all and end up in what could be a terrible intersection situation.

My truck driver door won’t latch,in cold weather. Like it won’t catch when I try close it less I lock it then it catch but won’t close all the way tell it warm up. Seem like whn it’s down in teens a single digits or below and windy. I’ve had it happen two times so far. Thank you.

Ford consumer affairs was sent a letter with this information, too. My 2018 f150 truck had issues with the 10 speed transmission. It’s been jumping, skipping gear, down shifting for no reason. Yesterday, 12/28/25, we were returning home from a holiday trip on I-95’s left lane of the highway when the truck down-shifted from 10th gear to around 3rd or 4th gear spiking the rpm to over 5,000 rpm’s for no reason on 3 different occasions. We had to move to the right lane after the 3rd time due to the wrench light coming on and the transmission temperature gauge maxed out at super hot and turn on the hazards due to only doing 50 mph in a 70 mph highway until we could exit. This was dangerous in so many ways due to the volume of traffic on the highway. Downshifting that much instantly was like slamming on brakes with no break lights. We were verry lucky not getting rear ended and causing a possibly tragic situation. Thankfully, we did not get into an accident. There were a lot of cars on the road, as many families were returning home. This is happening all over the USA with the 10 speed transmission and may eventually cause a tragic accident on the road. We took it to the cocoa Ford dealership on 12/29/25 and the diagnostic paper states they 'performed a koeo self test and found pq7f7 for gear 10 incorrect ratio. Verified fluid vented out of top of transmission. Tech rec overhaul. All one time use parts and rear main seal. Trans cooler. Due to parts/labor cost recommend assembly replacement. '.

Rearview camera stop displaying image for 24 hours.

There is a recall on this vehicle.

Affected vehicle: drivers side door latch stopped latching entirely in frozen conditions and then thawed conditions. A frozen door latch, or a bent or kinked door latch actuation cable, may result in a door that will not open, will not close, or opens while driving condition, increasing the risk of injury. This year needs to be added to the recall. Recall 17s33.

Door lock is freezing. If locked, cannot unlock. If unlocked, cannot lock. Do will not auto lock when driving. Concerned that do will open when driving. There was a recall for 2019 models, and the issue continues in 2022.

I had just gotton on route 5 north from the agawam rotary. After I merged onto route 5 I drove a short distance then I heard a loud noise from the rear of my vehicle. Immediately after the loud noise my rear end kicked out and I lost complete control of my truck. I hit the brakes and tried to slightly counter steer and I still had absolutely no control over the truck. I then proceeded to go over a straight edge bridge curbing and then a bridge guardrail. I did not hit any potholes,their were none and I was driving in a straight line at approximately 40 mph. My truck was hanging over the bridge.

Experiencing sudden hard shifting with the 6r80 transmission. Have had wheels lock up once. Issues with the lead frame as well.

I just left my house didn't go no more than a mile and my pickup truck burnt to the ground for no reason at all. Total loss.

I left my house going to the store about a mile and never made it my 2013f150 5. 0 engine caught on fire about a block behind the saratoga txfire department before they could make it the truck front end burnt to the ground and melted hood plum off of it for no reason at all total loss.
