Ford F-250 owners have reported 13 problems related to horn assembly (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Experience stalling without warning while driving and may or may not restart. It will also stall after letting off the throttle when approaching a stop and occasionally while while stopped at a light. Rpm's will also drop to 500 and I have no throttle response, if it doesn't stall completely. This may occur 4 or more times a day, then may not occur again for a few days or weeks. There is absolutely no telling when it will occur, it is to random to identify the problem. Now my horn and cruise control have stopped working as well, when I replace the fuse it blows immediately. I have replaced the ficm, ebp sensor and wiring, fuel pump and still have not resolved the problem. My truck is not safe to drive. This has been happening since shortly after buying the truck in 2018, but seems to be getting worse as the temperature warms up. The following recall number 05v270000 sounds exactly like what I am experiencing, but does not show a recall for my truck.

I was driving down a street in my 2006 f250 sd, when all of a sudden the horn honked and stayed on (not like honk honk but like hhhhooonnnkk) I had to stop and pull the fuse to get the horn to turn off. It is a safety risk due the way other drivers get startled buy this sudden noise. And may very well causes and accident or kill some one if it happens at the wrong time. I have read online that is happens alot in the 03-06 f250, and when Ford fixed my truck they replaced the fuse box, driver side air bag and horn assembly(at a cost of 1486. 80). Stating that if I had been in an accident the air bag might not have deployed. So my life could have very much been in danger. . . . . . . . . Thanks Ford. . .

I own on 2005 F-250 superduty diesel 6. 0 truck, and I was driving down the road with an approx. Speed of 45, and my vehicle stalls for about 10 seconds, I started to panic and then, it started running again after blowing a big puff of black smoke. I traveled on and everything seemed to be okay, well I continue on to get on the beltline, approx speed 65, and it did it again, it stalled for about 10 seconds and the started with a big black cloud of smoke. , I could have killed someone, I was on the highway with cars all around me and it stalled, I had no where to go. They were slamming on brakes and blowing horns, I could have caused a huge accident. I was so nervous, so I went straight to the Ford dealership; the parts department said that there were no recalls on anything. Something is wrong, so I came on home, got online and found that there had been a recall and it is exactly what I have experienced. It could have been devastating. Thank god no one was hurt, this should be address immediately. Please help me notify that this is a safety problem, and they need to let americans know.

The contact owns a 2006 Ford F-250. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle shook violently and felt as if it would flip over. It took a while for the contact to regain control of the vehicle. The dealer test drove the vehicle, but was unable to duplicate the failure. A report was filed with the manufacturer and they stated that the dealer would call the contact within four days. The failure mileage was 25,000 and current mileage was 30,000. Updated 12/30/08 the horn would randomly blow on its own. Updated 01/05/09.
The horn has not been working for almost 2 years, I've contacted Ford many times where I purchased the truck. They said I would have to pay if I want it fixed. On your web-site, (NHTSA) many complaints already about this issue, its a safty issue. Because when you try to use the horn it seems as the airbag is in the way.

Clock spring failed . As a result, horn and cruise control become inoperable.
Horn cannot be activated quickly or repeatedly because only a very small spot in the airbag/steering pad is live. Finding the small, unmarked spot is impossible under emergency conditions and difficult at any time. Dealers know it's a problem but have no fix. Common to all super duty with airbag.
Hole was blown through top and side of block with no previous symptoms.
Horn and the air bag are in the same place. When trying to use the horn, the consumer almost had an accident due to looking down on the steering wheel to apply the horn.
Horn experiencing intermittent problem with operating in normal weather conditions, and not operating at all in cold weather conditions. Also, excessive oils useages, missing a quart within every thousand miles. Dealer notified, and informed consume rthat horn problem could not not be corrected, and oils useages was normal for that vehicle.
Pad within horn assembly becomes so hard in cold weather that horn becomes inoperable. The horn assembly was replaced, but there was no difference can't blow horn.
Consumer has had a number of almost accidents due to the horn sensors locations. Consumer can only fit the circular part of finger tips on to blow the horn, and that sometimes is hard to find, sometimes it's too late.
