The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-250. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the key failed to turn in the ignition. After several attempts, the contact was not able to turn the ignition and contacted a locks smith and had the ignition replaced. On another occasion, while the contact was turning off the vehicle, the contact was unable to pull the key out of the ignition. The ignition was replaced again. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed awareness of the failure however, there was no recall for the failure. The contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was 85,000.

Failure of cam position sensor on 2002 f250 7. 3 diesel superduty. Vehicle started to die for no reason at random times. Took vehicle to Ford dealer, and they pointed to cps. Replaced cps at a cost of $200 and problem went away. Thought the problem was fuel related to begin with until I went online and found the failure on the internet ,and then suspected by the dealer. No codes read.

1999 f250 super duty 7. 3l diesel. Cps sensor failed and caused the engine to stall while driving 65 mph on freeway. There was no power steering or brakes. Vehicle very hard to control. I replaced the cps sensor(f7tz-12k073-a- synchronizer) and repaired the problem. Very similar to the thick film ignition issues from the past. The old part is available to the NHTSA.

My 2001 Ford F-250 was destroyed on 8/11/06 and approximately 75 acres of range land was burned when the truck caught on fire. Contents valued at $1800 were also destroyed. No one was injured. The fire started in the engine compartment when the engine was off and the key was not in the ignition.
Vehicle stalled multiple (20) times 30 miles from home. Restarted sucessfully each time. Drove 1/4 mile to 5 miles in between each time it stalled. Finally got home. Purchase and replace the synchronizer (cam position sensor) #f7tz-12k073-a. No failures since. Old part is available.
I have a Ford 2002 F-250 super duty that the spark plug blew out f the cylinder head. This caused a very significant power loss causing the truck to slow very quickly much like applying the brakes but not using them. This caused a very near accident on a highway traveling at 50 mph and the slowing without brake lights nearly caused an accident. After approximately 1 min of researching the problem about the accident I realized that this problem is huge !!!! to say the least. There have been countless reports of spark plugs blowing and either people being stranded to near collisions. Also I am a firefighters paramedic and my nose is no hydrocarbon meter but the levels of gasoline vapors that accumulate in a very short time. My question to that is how much vapor collects in the cab compartment and can it cause a compartment fire before the driver can safely get the vehicle to a safe area to exit the vehicle? I bring this to your attention because of my research I do not believe any letters or calling Ford motor as just a vehicle owner can make Ford motor company more aware of this problem. Thank you!.
Failed cps (cam position sensor).

1999 f250 with a v-10. Spark plugs have blown out twice and where repaired by dealer. Expensive! one of the repaired plugs blew out again. Had to have head removed and taken to a machine shop. I have contacted Ford on each occasion and they claim they never heard of this problem before. It ruins an expensive coil pack each time.
The ignition shut off unexpectedly. The vehicle was towed to a service dealer and they were unable to resolve the problem. There was no code for the check engine at the early stages of the problem. The engine died and the consumer's vehicle drifted into the other lane. The service dealer found that the cam sensor was bad and the exhaust sensor was replaced.
First we started to hear a ticking sound from engine. Dealer said it was something to do either with the fuel system or the y-collector on the exhaust. They advised to change y-collector with something less performance oriented, sounded incorrect so I obivously declined. Soon after while traveling down in baja mexico we were climbing a mello grade when bamm!!! we lost most of our power and it sounded as though we were riding a large lawn mower without a muffler. Since we were in mexico with no cell service, we crawled all the way home after midnight. Upon inspection, rear passanger spark plug had blown through the threads and took the coil with it. Replaced with cold-fusion coil, but still sounds as though main bearings aren't going to make it much longer!!!!.
While driving at any speed and without warning vehicle will stall. It will be hard for the consumer to control the vehicle. Dealer notified.
While driving heard a big bang, lost engine power. Had vehcile serviced, spark plugs stripped into head of engine. This was a common problem. Contacted dealer.
While driving 20 mph consumer heard a loud bang under the hood. One of the spark plugs had blownout, causing 2000 dollars damage to vehicle. Jlg.
Spark plug number four had blown out of head, consumer managed to get vehicle to a mechanice and was informed that head was made of aluminum and engine was made of iron, this is what caused the spark plugs to blow, right head was replaced for a total cost of $1900, partial reimbursement ws given to consumer.

Key ignition wire was never fastened properly at the factory, causing it to fall off while driving over a railroad track, resulting in total loss of power. Dealer did many tests before he could determine defect. Dealers conclusion was to replace wire at connection (1027)grey wire.
Cps(camp position sensor has failed on a 1999 Ford super duty 7. 3l psd a total of 3 times. First time, son and I were turning into a walmart parking lot, and vehicle shut down and refused to restart. 13k miles on it. Dealer fixed cps. Second time traveling down interstate 95, and suddenly vehicle shut down again, while doing 75 mph. Fortunately the truck is a manual transmission, or we would have ended up in the trees, or into the side of the semi that was passing on the left. Third time we were towing our travel trailer, and truck died on a 8% grade, there was no time to get out of the lane we were in to the shoulder before we slowed too much and caused a wreck behind us the truck now has 77k miles on it. We feel the cps failing 3x in 77k miles is exxx. . . The last two sensors were not under warranty and cost $250~ we have researched on the internet and found out that the cps is a very common problem, and has shown up in mileage instances ranging from 100 miles on odo. All the way to not showing up until 200k miles. We, (along with apparently thousands of other truck owners) feel that the vehicle shutting down, and losing 90% of our steering and likely 85% of brakes (on diesels you do not get a "reserve" brake boost, unlike on gas engines with vacuum), as the brake system is powered by the hydraulic pressure provided by the power steering pump!!!! we know there is no way around the brake system. However, in two of our cases. It was very scary and a very dangerous situation when the truck died. We now have a spare cps inside of the glove box inside of vehicle and proper tools to replace it ourselves should it happen again. We have heard of other people driving said trucks with 7. 3l psd engines ( do not know if the 6. 0l is having the same problem with the cps) of the trucks being totaled and people being seriously injured because of the cps failing. We feel that a recall, should be made. . . Thank you and good day. . . .
While driving vehicle would shut down. Happened at stop light or signs. Contacted Ford manufacturer & informed consumer to take vehicle to dealer. At dealership, mechanic placed vehicle on diagnostic machine & no codes appeared. Transmission could not shift properly into either 1st or 2nd gears without making grinding noises. Mechanic refused to repair vehicle due to being out of warranty.

When crossing multiple railroad tracks, ignition shut off and would not restart. Managed to coast past tracks before coming to a stop on side of road. Tow truck driver (larry's towing 281-342-981, rosenberg TX) said this was the second Ford truck(model year 2000, that he had towed with same problem, just stopped running. This problem which could easily had led to fatal accident when stopped on rail line is apparently well knwn to tow truck drivers , thus must also be known to Ford, but they have no recall etc. 2.
While driving vehicle stalled. Consumer restarted vehicle and drove it to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic was not able to duplicate or resolve the problem.
