Tire Sidewall Problems of Ford F-250 - part 2

Steeltex r4s tires on my 2000 f250. One developed a sidewall bulge at approx. 27000 miles. I replaced all based on web research of problems others were having. Have tires if intersted in reviewing. .

5th wheel camper had a total of 8 blow outs in less than 3 years. Consumer's vehicle had 3 blow outs in the last 3 months with less than 2,000 miles on the tires. The tires were manufactured by carlisle. Consumer was worried about 2 ply tires. Consumer was changing the tire size to an upgraded size and to 8 ply tire. Tires that blew out were carlisle and goodyear. Consumer had a 1997, damon, challenger. . They first set of tires had knots on them. Consumer has not contacted any of the dealerships that sold the tires. Consumer wanted the manufacturer to stop selling the tires two ply sidewalls were not enough to carry the weight of the trailer. Consumer thought that the two ply tires were a safety hazard. The speeds was from 55-60 mph when the tires blew out. The failure location included all four locations, on both axles.

I notice cracking on side of tires where the sidewall and tread meet. Had tires certified safe to operate by certified firestone dealer per firestone. At highway speed of 70 mph left front tire tread seperated without warning. I was able to control vehicle and come to complete stop without further incident. Tire was replaced by firestone dealer same day, I was charged for the mounting and balancing. Estimated damage to fenderwell of vehicle to include bent metal and torn mud flap estimated damage 250. 00. Firestone denied replacement of other tires. I have since replaced them with another brand. Sidewall blew out on right front tire going down the interstate at 72 mph. Left front is now making a slapping noise. Ford dealer said to contact firestone. Firestone dealer said no warranty or recall, offered to sell new tires at 25 % discount. (dot number: vnw81xl108 tiresize: lt265/75r1).

All 4 tires are showing signs of cracking in sidewalls. Front 2 tires are more predominant than the rear 2. Front right and left tires are actually losing rubber off the side of tires. Firestone said the tire was not a manufactures defect but a road hazard and Ford said it was firestone's problem. (tiresize: 265 75r16).

Tire blowout driving on highway 62 north of welton,iowa, sidewall blowout. (dot number: vnw8 tiresize: lt265/7516).

Tire failed dramatically at 70 mph. Entire outside sidewall separated. Truck was pulling fifth wheel trailer. Trailer weight was 11,500 lbs with a hitch weight of 2000 lbs. Tire pressures were checked before hooking up trailer, about 2 hours before failure. Rear pressure was 70 psi and front pressure was 45 psi as recommened by Ford. Failure of tire was about 10 miles into trip. Only warning was a rumbling sound immediately before failure. Tire was checked at Ford. No punctures were noticed. Firestone has not been contacted because all firestone tires will be removed from this vehicle before the trailer is again towed. (dot number: illegble tiresize: lt265/75r1).

Original equipment on a 1999, f250, lt265/75r16size. Rear tires have developed a split resulting in air loss, causing a blowout from sidewall which resulted in damage to vehicle.

Pe 00 040/tire failure: while traveling at 45 mph with only the driver in a 1999, Ford, f250 super duty; original equipment, tire size lt265/75r16, dot# vnw81xm019 heard a roaring sound. Pulled vehicle over and noticed a left rear flat tire. Towed to an independent tire repair shop, and was informed of severe cracking inside sidewall. Firestone was notified and unwilling to assist. Consumer made a second call to firestone and at that time, all 4 tires were replaced.

Original equiipment on a 2000, f250, superduty lt, 265/75r16 size ,load range "e". Tread on left rear blewout from sidewall, causing damage to vehicle. Firestone has been notified. Failed tire was firestone steeltex at, p265/75r16 e, dot vnw81xl469. Rear tires had 82#.

Caught tread separating from sidewall. Tire appeared to be dry rotting or cracking along sidewall and tread meeting area. Firestone prorated a warranty. (dot number: vnw81xl tiresize: 265-75-16).

Firestone steeltex lt265/75r16, dot vnw81xl349, orig. Equipment with 26000 on a 2000, Ford, f250 , while driving 20 mph left rear tire had a blowout. Firestone dealer stated it was due to road hazard.

Blowout destroyed outside sidewall, tire blemishes and cracks were specifically pointed out to Ford dealer about 750 miles before and dismissed by employee blake shook. (dot number: vnw8 1xl tiresize: 265/75r16e).

Sidewall is flaking apart and letters are coming off. Also, the tread is wearing very quickly. I have less than 1800 miles and the tread is already 1/2 worn in some spots. I tried more tire pressure, but the tread and the sidewall still flakes apart. (dot number: none found tiresize: 265/75r16).

Pe00 020; firestone tire tread started separating . Firestone, steeltex at, lt23585r16ms, dot vn0r1xk. Dealership was aware of problem. Consumer states sidewalls have shown excessive wear over the past 15000 miles, a master mechanic stated the tires were okay to drive on, however when speaking with service reps from Ford, they state the tires should have been replaced, as they would not drive with them on.

Can't get dot number, nothing left of that part of tire but ropes and fibers. No warning, no noise to indicate a blowout, just sudden loss of control as the right front tire fell apart. Tread and belts all completely separated from each other, sidewalls shredded. Looks like the tire perforated around entire circumference at the "beading". Nothing left of sidewalls except "ropes" connecting inner rim to tread surface, can see all individual layers of tread, belts and fiber separated from each other. Father states it took every bit of strength (and past racing experience of several decades ago) to maintain control of vehicle and keep it from rolling. I am keeping this tire in case anyone wants to inspect it, it looks strikingly similar to the ones involved in recall when they failed. Father has never felt anything like this when it went, including when racing. Have never seen a tire look like this after a blowout. The tread and belts have completely separated from each other, all the way around! it looks like it just fell apart. This is a dangerous tire. (dot number: shredded tiresize: lt23585r16).

East bound on interstate 10, 20 mi west of buckeye az, at 1630 at 75 mph when l rear tire blew. Sidewall appears to have disintegrated. 1200 lb. Camper on, no known prev damage. Almost all miles freeway driving. (dot number: db6447p tiresize: lt265/75 r).

Firestone steeltex tire experienced a bulge in the sidewall, tire size lt265/75r16, made in canada 303 66 ex bm 14474. 3, consumer noticed the bulge when vehicle was parked.

Right rear firestone steeltex (lt 265/r16) tire experienced a puncture and rapid deflation, side wall of tire appeared to part from main casing.

Firestone, steel tex, lt26575r16, 123120q on a Ford, f250, 1999. Tow of tire is showing some cracks in sidewalls. Consumer states he drove truck to florida and upon cleaning truck he noticed cracking was seriously worse, consumer contacted firestone and they replaced tire free with the exception of mounting and balancing.

I was driving on interstate 15 north between st. George and ceder city utah going 65 miles per hour under snowing conditions and the right rear tire exploded without warning. The tread seperated from the inside wall and the side wall had 2 tairs down the entire sidewall to the rim. Please investigate this matter fully. (dot number: vnw81xl tiresize: 265/75r/16).

All 5 goodyear warngler ap tires as original equipment on truck were defective with bulges on sidewalls. Bitterroot Ford rep denied that tires had any defects and would have "put them on his wife's car" and in fact said that they had the exact same model tires in their inventory with the same bulges on the sidewalls, but for customer relations they would replace them and he refused to give us goodyear phone number. However, we did get the goodyear phone number from other sources and called goodyear tire direct who had us go directly to their goodyear tire dealer in polson, montana, who examined all 5 tires which included the spare (which had never been on the ground) and verified that all 5 tires were defective with bulges on the sidewalls. He then directly informed goodyear tire and they immediately authorized him to replace withno pro-rate reduction all 5 of the goodyear wrangler ap tires with another model their tires. Rear sidewall split at point where tread attatches to sidewall. No puncture or abrasion at point where split occurred, and had not been hauling any load in bed of truck. . Had tire temporarily repaired, but was advised at the time to replace it for safety reasons. (tiresize: lt26575r16)( dot number: tire size: lt26575r16 ).

Remaining 3 tires show stress marks on sidewalls. (dot number: 8xorrab359 tiresize: lt23585r16).

All four (4) tires are splitting on the sidewalls. (dot number: c39816 tiresize: lt23585r16).

Tire did not "blow out" or make loud noise to indicate a sudden puncture. While making initial entrance onto two mile long benicia bridge the driver heard a "flapping" noise which got louder. Since I could not stop on bridge safely, I slowed speed and was "shepherded" to end of bridge by a anonymous semi-truck driver who saw the tire falling apart. I replaced tire with spare when safely off the bridge. As a result of having to drive on the wheel only the flaps of sidewall were left of the tire. I replaced it with the spare and proceeded on my way and contacted the dealer. ( dot number: vnw81xm tire size: 265/75r16 ).

Both front tires had sidewall bulges where the tires had started to seperate (tiresize: p235/85r16)( dot number: tire size: p235/85r16 ).

I have a99 f250 with firestone 16in steeltex a/t tires. I recently had a routine service visit to my Ford dealer and told them my two right tires look like the tread was separating from the side wall. After they inspected the tires they agreed there was a problem and to take it to a firestone dealer in which I did. Upon my visit to firestone they said they would only give me 45% reimbustment on those two tires because of tread wear. This is unsatisfactory to me because of these factors, which I expressed to them: ther is only 34,000 on both the vehical and tires and the problem is not tread wear but the quality of the tire; the vehical is a 4x4 and not having the same tires and tread wear can cause damage to the four wheel drivetrain, that is why both Ford and firestone reccomments to rotate the tires on a periodicaltime frameand when it is time to put new tires on that they are the same type of tires;this vehical is on athree year lease and I expect the tires to last as long as the lease does; the unsafe quality on the 15in tires are also on the 16in tires, but it seems everyone that is envolved in this firestone problem has had there heads in the sand about the 16in tires. I am currently driving on these tires and hope and pray I have no accident. If you can assist me in anyway please contact me as soon as posslble. I have contacted firestone but they will not respond. Sidewalls cracking,lettering etched off all 4 tires, dealer says hitting curbs, no curbs in rural area, looks like riding on sidewalls when cornering, felt mushy in steering, removed from vehichle, no dealer support, refused to acknowledge problem. Bulges also seen on sidewalls. Tires available for inspection. Replaced with new non firestones, no problems with replacements. (dot number: vnw81xm tiresize: lt26575r16).

While drivng approximately 65 mph right rear side tire blewout the sidewall. Tires were firestone steeltex r4s, p265/75r16, and the original tires of vehicle when first purchased. Vehicle was a Ford truck, p250 pickup 2000 w/ 300 miles.
