1 Automatic Transmission Cooler problem of the 2001 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 04/02/2005

The contact owns a 2001 Ford f350 super duty. During the summer months when the temperature is 75 degrees and above, the vehicle leaks transmission fluid. While under warranty, the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they added dye to the fluid. They stated that the pump seal was leaking. During the winter months, there was hardly any leakage. The contact stated that the overflow hose was not large enough for the fluid to run through it, and that it was a design defect. The vehicle currently has two transmission coolers. The current mileage was 125,000 and failure mileage was 81,000.

2 Automatic Transmission Cooler problem of the 2000 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 05/01/2002

Vehicle's undercarriage caught on fire. The vehicle was towed to the dealership and the consumer was informed the transmission had overheated. The consumer's insurance company stated a technical service bulletin had been issued which stated if the vehicle was used for towing the transmission may overheat, but the consumer was never notified. The dealer refused to perform the upgrade on the cooling system because they were unable to pull up the codes. One year later, the same problem happened again, the vehicle was taken to the dealer and this time they were able to see that the transmission did indeed overheat, the transmission was replaced under warranty, however if the consumer wanted the upgrade he would be responsible for the charges.

3 Automatic Transmission Cooler problem of the 1997 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 02/15/1999

Transmission cooler lines rubs on the exhaust downpipe from the turbo. This rubbing has worn through 3/4 of the transmission cooler line with a failure, causing the transmission fluid to be sprayed directly onto the turbo downpipe. This is fire/transmission failure major risk.
