Crankcase (pcv) Problems of Ford F-350

Ford F-350 owners have reported 5 problems related to crankcase (pcv) (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 1997 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 09/02/2019

On the passenger side of the engine pan the dipstick adapter was manufactured poorly. The oil from the crankcase has caused the oring to swell and leak oil. The oil leak is getting on the starter and clutch. The oil can cause a short in the electrical system. This can cause an accident or death while driving. The oil on the clutch can cause loss of control and cause an accident or death. The oring can swell and fall off the adaptor and become lodged in the oil pickup. This will starve the motor of oil and cause a catastrophic failure of the motor while driving. This can cause an accident or death. Due to the inherent poor design the oring that is submerged in oil should be compatible with oil or be able to be replaced. It is not possible to replace the oring due to due to the terrible design of the dipstick assembly. To replace this oring with a proper oil compatible one requires the disassembly of the motor and the removal of the motor to gain access to the defective part. This is a common problem on all vehicles of the same make and model from 1988-2006.

2 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2012 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 06/01/2018

My truck has 32,000 miles on it. 6. 7 diesel. Upon starting the truck ( stationary in my driveway ) #3 fuel injector popped out of the engine, causing a misfire and spraying diesel fuel all over the engine. It was found that the #3 injector hold down clamp had broken caused by a crack in it. . Ford is well aware of this defect. . This could have resulted in a fire and possible loss of life if it had happened on the highway. Ford agreed to replace half of the defective injector clamps. (4) this leaves the other 4 prone to fail at any time. I was charged $897. 67. For the" half repair". Ford should be forced to recall these vehicles as it is a well known failure and documented on numerous internet websites. There is a TSB from Ford to their dealers on it. It also filled the crankcase with diesel fuel which did not do it any good. This truck has only 32 k miles and has been meticulously maintained since new. The Ford dealer repair order states:"found vehicle leaking fuel. Found injectors # 1 & # 3 blew out breaking hold down clamps. Also found other clamps cracked and return line broke as well and leaking fuel. Ordered parts on back order paco # 5934349 contact Ford case # cas-15233762-q2p6to. Ford agreed to assist $ 1500. . Ford should pay for the whole repair because it is a defective part that caused this dangerous failure and they are aware of it. Please force them to initiate a recall on these defective fuel injector clamps on their 6. 7 diesel engines before there is a catastrophic failure resulting in vehicle fires. The engine will most likely shut down if the vehicle is driven with the injector out of the engine. If someone was towing a trailer this could be life threatening. Luckily mine failed in the driveway with the engine at idle. .

3 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2008 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 04/01/2017

Upon returning from a short drive I noticed oil on the ground. . . Had truck towed to local Ford dealer . . . When inspected I was informed the self cleaning exhaust system caused the rings to wear prematurely and build pressure in the crankcase causing oil to spew out any opening ie the dipstick tube. A diesel engine should have been expected to last 2-3 times the 165,000 miles on the truck.
