The contact owns a 2008 Ford F-350. The contact was driving 30 mph when white smoke emitted from the exhaust. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer advised the contact that the vehicle entered into an abnormal safe mode. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 4,000 and the current mileage was 27,000.
2004 f350 diesel 6. 0 ,egr cooler went out. I was in the middle of the hwy when this occured. Clouds of smoke went out the tailpipe, engine overheating stranding me in the center lane stopped before I could get over to the shoulder. Passerby's help me push my truck off a busy hwy. Smoke was so thick I couldnt nor could other drivers see around me. Ford has had numerous complaints on this engine and part, but have failed to respond,or they waiting for a death to occur. The internet is full of complaints for the exact same thing. Letters to Ford motor CO. And my local dealer leif johnson Ford were unsuccessful. I'm not able to pay the almost $3000 the dealer wants to fix the problem. This is an obvious defect on Ford's part. Very fustrated as I have a expensive truck just parked for several months in my driveway. Updated 2/17/10

V-10 triton. I started hearing a ticking noise coming from the engine about 2 weeks ago. I had taken it to shop for unrelated work and they did not think it unusual. On 1/8/09, I heard a loud pop and then it started to sound like an exhaust leak coming from the engine. As the engine seemed to otherwise run ok, I drove it to a Ford dealer in snohomish where they diagnosed the problem as a spark plug ejected from the #4 cylinder. The plugs have never been changed, originally installed at the factory.

The contact owns a 2005 Ford F-350. The contact stated that the fuel injection module and relay switch failed. The vehicle would not drive more than 10 mph without black smoke coming from the exhaust. The contact repaired the vehicle. The vehicle had a high pressure oil leak, which led to the failure of the relay switch this repair was resolved under warranty. The fuel injectors were also faulty and were repaired under warranty three times. A mechanic stated that the failures would continue. . The contact is concerned about the safety of her vehicle. The current and failure mileages were 99,970.

I was going to the store to finish christmas shopping. I was stopped in the parking lot waiting to turn left when I heard a very load bang from under the hood. I first thought something on the exhaust broke. When I parked I opened the hood and found the #5 spark plug coil and wire hanging from the left side of the engine with the spark plug still in the boot. I attempted to thread the plug back in but found the threads in the head were stripped out. The spark plugs and boots were changed once since I've owned the truck, which was about a year ago. The new plugs were all torqued to exactly 11 foot lbs as specified by Ford. I just had the truck towed home today so no repairs have been made yet.

The contact owns a 2008 Ford f350. Whenever the contact started the ignition there was a generation of excessive exhaust fumes. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. The technician was unable to locate the failure. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on thirteen separate occasions for the identical failures which there were no resolutions. The vehicle has not been repaired for the malfunction. The contact had concerns of the safety risk involved. The failure mileage was 15,000.
Pulling out of parking area into main highway. Engine stalled almost causing accident. Egr cooler leaking fluid into air intake causing engine to stall. Replaced egr cooler, cleaned intake system.
I leased a 2008 f350 6. 4 liter it was smoking out of the tailpipe often so I called the dealer and they said it was normal over the next few months it got worse then I had the oil changed at the dealer and the smoke checked they said in the paper work it was undetermined 1 month later I lost all power and the truck died the oil cap was not put on and there was oil everywhere since then the smoke has gotten worse so I started to go to a small mechanic that works on my other trucks well since this incident the smoke is more often like two times a week for 10 min son I brought it to the dealer two weeks ago they had it for 3 days and then they called me and said I had to prove that I had the oil changes done to it I own four trucks and they all get oil changes so I brought the recites and they said because I paid cash for the oil changes the receipt form the mechanic where fake and it was a maintenance issue so I drove it down the street to another place since then its un drivable it smokes the hole time its running what do I do?.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford F-350. On June 4, 2008, while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle suddenly shut down without warning. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the exhaust filter failed. The dealer replaced the exhaust filter. On June 22, 2008, the contact's father was transporting a trailer and the vehicle suddenly shut off while attempting to park. The trailer slammed into the vehicle. His father lost control and sustained injuries to his neck and back. The vehicle was returned to the dealer, but they were unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The manufacturer stated that they were not responsible for any of the damages. The failure mileage was 60,624 and current mileage was 69,000.
The truck (2003 F-350sd) lost all power while driving. The deal replaced the egr valve. The dealer said that this is a known problem with 6. 0l d motors. The egr valve will stop up and not allow the exhaust to escape.

Regardless of speed, excessive white smoke blowing out of exhaust completely obstructing own rear sight as well as blinding following vehicles. It has happened 4 times, vehicle currently at 36, 000 km. Personal belief is that this has led to engine needing to be replaced which Ford will not warranty. Nothing has been done as Ford reports they cannot find the problem.
My 2004 Ford f-360 truck would "cut out" and try to quit running when slowing for a stop sign or red light. Thought it was bad fuel, fuel filters. Had recalls done (gfr). Problem began again and while my daughter was pulling a 16 ft. Trailer with one horse loaded, began to emit white smoke from the exhaust. The truck apparently overheated but the temperature gauge did not indicate such. Truck was towed to dealer and they were 99% sure it was gfr again, but it was not. The problem is much bigger. Apparently it will cost $5-10,000 for repairs. The mileage is 104,000, just out of warranty and I did not purchase any extended warranty. I then had the truck towed to another dealer who said he could fix the truck for a lot less. But, his estimate was just as costly as the first estimate. The truck remains at the dealer as I refuse to pay that much to repair.
I have a 2005 Ford 350 superduty 6. 0 diesel truck. I pull a large 5th wheel unit. It is within the weight range indicated by Ford. I have installed a thermocouple gauge to monitor the engine exhaust temperature. I was told by Ford dealer that the normal exhaust gas temperature (egt) should be between 750 and 900 while pulling the unit. Under a nominal hill climb, I noted the egt never got below 1000, even when the transmission shifted to a lower gear. It was hard keeping the egt under 1400. I had to travel at 55 mph and in 4th gear to maintain the 1000 degree temperature boost was between 24 and 28 psi. Near the top of a climb, the turbo hose blew. The dealer said it was a dirty gate valve or dirt in the vanes of the turbo. During the vacation they replaced the gate valve and the turbo. After vacation and without the 5th wheel attached, I noted the egt, under normal street driving, runs at 800 to 1000 degrees. If this is an indication of the engine/turbo design, this engine is doomed to fail. I believe Ford should have known these issues before they sold these trucks. I know the turbo will fail again. If there is recourse, I would like to know.
I have a 2002 Ford f 350 with v10 engine. The manifold bolts keep rusting off and breaking. I only have about 11,000 miles on the truck now. Ford fixed the bolts on the right side on may 8, 2007 as I had purchased the extended warranty. They should have fixed both sides at the same time as this is an obvious problem. The truck only had 8500 miles on it then. They actually brought a rep in from Ford on may 2, 2007 to photograph my truck during the repair at whited truck center in bangor, maine. Now the warranty has run out and I noticed the bolts on the left side of the engine are rusted off and completely gone. Obviously this is a big ongoing problem with the v10 engines as there are many complaints posted on the internet about it. This is a safety problem as there are exhaust fumes leaking into the vehicle from these failed bolts. The fumes fill the engine compartment and then are drawn into the vehicle buy the heating/air-conditioning system every time I slow down or get stuck in traffic. This is by no means a safe situation and there needs to be a recall to fix the problem for good. Ford is dodging the problem as the cost of the repair is prohibitive, but the cost of a life is much dearer. I have had to park the truck for months now as I cannot afford the fix or to die. Thirty six thousand dollar truck with 11000 miles on it sitting around like it is a piece of scrap metal. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

: the contact stated an odor of exhaust was detected. The vehicle was pulled over and exhaust was leaking between the engine head and manifold under the hood. The dealership determined the manifold bolts sheered off due to heat. New bolts needed to be drilled on the manifold.
I purchased a used Ford f350 super duty 4x4 truck on 11-18-2005, from butler Ford in medford or. Since this purchase I have had repeated problems with the turbocharger system on this truck (check engine light on, egr valve, eec &egr , mass air flo sensor, hoses blowing off turbo charger) I have taken this truck to be repaired many times at multiple Ford dealerships across the united states ( I was on a vacation, and had continual problems with the hoses blowing off the turbocharger) at the last repair attempt I was told that Ford motor CO. Was replacing turbochargers on these trucks. I had the turbocharger replaced and had the truck about 1 week when the check engine light came on again , I returned the truck to the dealer repair shop(300. 00 in fees again!) when the truck was returned to me I took a trip, approximately 400 miles and again the check engine light is on. Each time this check engine light comes on I have problems with the hoses connecting the turbocharger to the engine manifold blowing off, the truck looses power stranding me on the road. I have had to replace the hoses on my own to continue driving this truck. The last incident I had with this problem I was almost hit by a logging truck while trying to direct traffic around my disabled truck, the trucker who almost hit me called the oregon state police and I was told to remove the truck from the highway or I would receive a citation for having an unsafe vehicle . I have tried to resolve this problem with Ford motor CO. Customer relations center . When I contact them they tell me there is nothing they can do about this problem even though this truck was still under warranty when it was purchased and has had repeated repair attempts for the same problem.
Drove truck 9 hours felt ill. Went to doctor he ordered blood test. Result was carbon monoxide poisoning. I was told not to drive vehicle.
We have had several incidents where we are driving the vehicle and it will begin to shake and a puff of black smokes comes out of the exhaust. Then shortly after this happens, we you stop at an intersection, the vehicle will die. This has happened several times. Have had it into the Ford dealership on five occasions, they have said it is fixed, when it is not. When hooked to the computer, there is a definite problems. This last time, the dealership was unable to duplicate the problem. They say that their computer did not show any problems. There is obviously a problem or we would not have taken it in. We are making the payments and insurance, yet it sits in the shop. Have been in driving this vehicle that on 3 occasions where it has stalled in an intersection and could have caused an accident. Also has stalled at least 20 times when slowing for a red light or stop sign.
Contact stated there has been two recalls that have been serviced. But the consumer was still having stalling problems. The service dealer inspected the fuel injector control module harness and replaced the injector control pressure sensor and rep the air charging cooler duct. Most of the time the vehicle stalled was when the vehicle is first taking off, it loaded up with smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. This vehicle did not stall every time the consumer drove the vehicle. Consumer did not want to contact the manufacturer, he would not get any resolution from the manufacturer.
Consumer took vehicle to a dealership due to loss of power and unknown ticking noise from the engine. This had been a problem twice since the 3,000 mile checkup. Dealership cleaned the engine, and returned the vehicle. Dealership states noise was normal, and should not affect the engine's performance. Took vehicle back to dealer, and was told that the engine blew out. . Read more...
When truck originally purchased bubble on tire, and dealer said they all come that way, tire went flat while parked about a month later, no holes, we were told tire was no good, had to be replaced. Truck kept stalling, loss of brakes and steering while navigating downhill, solenoid assembly replaced. 2 days later kept stalling. Dealer had truck 21 days to rebuild transmission, again solenoid assembly replaced after that replaced wiring harness. Since then, caliper broke and brakes went, turbo has been replaced. Vehicle has repeatedly stalled, noises from rear end with no dx. Now engine smoking, loss of power, rpms jump while idling. Truck has also repeatedly changed gears automatically, ie while at red light truck would jump to 3rd and then truck would stall.
There are toxic fumes coming through the defroster when it is turned on. Which is distracting the driver on the road. Manufacturer had been contacted by consumer. The consumer purchased a carbon monoxide detector in which the vehicle registered 40 ppm. As the weather turned cold, the consumer was unable to use the defroster or heater due to the diesel fumes from the exhaust system. The consumer suffered nose bleeds and his mother-in-law had become ill while riding in the vehicle. Two dealerships stated that they could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. The engine died while going down hill to a stop at times, the vehicle stuck in 4x4 low, driver door molding was coming a loose, head light was inoperative at times and the switch was replaced, the rear door did not line properly and leaked air therefore both rear door upper seals were adjusted.
Cracked "y" pipe is leaking diesel exhaust fumes into cab of truck. This occurred previously when the truck was under warranty back in 2004 but now it is not under warranty nor is there a recall. I have brought this up to several dealers in the area but unless it is under warranty they won't cover the repair. However, I feel it is a major safety hazard which I feel should be addressed immediately, as diesel fumes are linked to cancer or could leak to an accident if someone is overcome by the fumes, which could lead to a death. Please look into this hazard and let me know if you have any questions, I would be happy to answer. I do know from talking to mechanics that this does occur often in these trucks.
Under acceleration between 25 and 45 mph the vehicle loses power. There is hesitation when vehicle accelerates. It is as though it bogs down and can not gain any speed. Also, a large amount of black smoke was expelled from the exhaust. When this occurs the truck comes to crawl in middle of traffic, and happens mostly in stop and go traffic, as well as on interstate. Took vehicle to a dealer 4 times for this problem within 28,000 miles. Dealership could not find anything wrong, but did trouble shooting repairs to the computer, and then replaced the turbo. Dealer admitted they did not know how to fix or diagnose this problem. Consumer has not contacted the manufacturer at this time. No other repairs were done or issues outside of this probekm occurred.
Vehicle is experiencing a problem with the exhaust fumes which seem to be getting into the cab of the pickup. Vehicle has been to the dealers on several occasions. Also, contacted the manufacturer. However, they did not help the owner with this problem. The exhaust fumes were coming through the air conditioner and heat vents. When driving, the exhaust fumes burned the driver's eyes, and gave owner a headache. Updated 12/27/2005 - the vehicle has also been having injector problems.
A bad odor was coming from inside of the vehicle through the vents. Exhaust system was causing the smell. On one occasion, consumer had to pull over to the shoulder because he became very ill. Dealer was aware of the problem.
1996, F-350, crew cab, 4x4, with 35,000 original miles was towing 5th wheel travel trailer in mountainous area. Exhaust pipes caused the spare tire to catch on fire. The spare tire was new and had never been removed since vehicle was purchased in 1996 used, with 3,000 miles on it. The spare tire was about 3-4 inches away from the exhaust pipe heat shield. ( not touching). Rear gas tank was not harmed due to quick action on fire extinguishing. Driver was unaware of fire until notified by persons outside the vehicle. Spare tire burned clear to the core prior to being removed after flames were extinguished.

Vehicle lost power (and never returned) while passing another vehicle on the highway. Check engine light came on after 20 miles of driving under the lost power condition. Took the truck to the dealer and they replaced the egr valve. This happened at only 3500 miles. I wish Ford would test their vehicles instead of having the consumer test them for them on the highways.
Consumer noticed a leak on garage floor, took vehicle to dealer, and they fixed leak. Cosumer started smelling fumes coming in, and dealer did not know where they were coming from. Consumer did not use heater because smell was too strong.

When consumer drives he smells diesel fumes. Headlight and interior lights hesitate when they are first turned on. Transmission doesn't shift correctly. Driveline has too much slack. Doors rattle. Rubber trim around back door is coming off. Heater switch is bad. Loud exhaust leak after starting the truck in the morning. All of these problems have been reported to the dealer.

Vehicle experienced the folowing problems: 1. Rattle in rear end, and 2. Leak in the exhaust system. Dealer notified, and was unable to resolve both problems.
For the exhaust system there aren't any replacements at present.
When traveling at 20 to 35 mph and upon depressing the brake pedal to make a sudden stop, brake pedal traveled to the floorboard, resulting in extended stopping distance. Consumer also has experienced a problem when traveling, fire shot out of the exhaust system, causing objects in the road to catch on fire. Consumer has contacted the dealer.

This questionnaire is complicated. There are problems too numerous to list all here. This vehicle has rear end problems, engine, diesel exhaust, fumes inside truck' cupping of the tires and front end problems. The towing power is terribble. Cruise control kicks off if truck is in a pull on a slight incline. Loss of power like engine dies when you pull off from stop. Dealer is trying to fix, but so far no luck. Dealer has ask regional to contact us with no response. They have called almost everyday for two weeks. Know several other owner of f350 with same problems.
