Ford F-350 owners have reported 7 problems related to engine knocking noise (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While driving my vehicle to get on to the freeway, the engine started revving and rattling I could smell something burning. When I tried to press on the brakes it wasn't working than the steering locked. I hit my emergency breaks put on my hazard light and turned off the car until a police officer arrived. I purchased the vehicle on 2/28/2020 and when I returned to pick up the truck the next day they could not produce the keys, this took about 2 weeks. On 04/06/2020 approx. 2 weeks after picking up the truck the it wouldn't start, I jumped the truck at which time there was a rattling and knocking sound in the engine, I took it back to the dealership for servicing. I got the truck back again a little over 2 weeks later on 04/23/2020. I feel the truck is so unsafe that it will cause me to get into an accident placing my life that of my family or another driver in a separate vehicle at stake. Upon reviewing all of the documents none of the documents have the same odometer reading and the number is approx. 24000 off.

Excessive white smoke out of exhaust, especially with acceleration. Smoke has a foul odor also. Can hear a knocking sound in engine on deceleration (similar to bad wheel bearing hums), only does it if turbo is over 150-200 psi, but will do it every single time. 'drive to clean exhaust' displayed on dash. Completed recommended drive cycle (over 30mph for at least 20 minutes, I drove for 45 mins) and message still appears. "wrench" symbol displayed on dash. Per owner's guide the rtt displays when engine has defaulted to "limp-home" operation or when transmission problem has been detected. . The light comes on every time vehicle is driving now, and stays on entire time.

I have a 2013 6. 7 diesel. It goes through the exhaust filter cleaning about every 200 miles. After this process starts the engine runs extremely rough, like it's ready to drop out. There is also a very loud knocking noise and violent shaking while I drive. Yes, it's more than just the typical diesel clatter.

The contact owns a 2002 Ford F-350 XLT. The contact stated that while stopped, the passenger's side spark plug shot out of the engine without warning. The contact also mentioned that the engine made a loud banging noise as the failure occurred. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the mechanic stated that the compression from the engine caused the spark plug to fail. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 180,000.

Vehicle was accelerating onto on-ramp to interstate 90 west bound at pines road in spokane valley wa. Vehicle was driven by my wife. At approximately 30 mph their was a loud bang and noise that sounded like an exhaust leak. Vehicle was driven to the shoulder and shut off. My wife called me and I came to investigate what had happened. I turned the engine over and determined it was not an exhaust leak but that a spark plug had been blown out of the right side of the engine. It was the number 4 spark plug from the front on my v-10 gas engine. I located the bent spark plug at the approximate location of where the incident occurred. Other than being bent the threads on the plug were intact and did not appear to have been cross threaded. I had the plugs replaced at just over 100,000 miles as per the owners manual. I checked with the auto repair shop I used, (aafes auto hobby shop on fairchild afb), and informed them of what had occurred. They informed me that Ford had a technical service bulletin on this very subject. This appears to be a manufacturing defect in that replacing spark plugs should not lead to an explosive event strong enough to dent my hood from the inside. I am now expecting to have 9 more little time bombs just waiting to go off under the hood of my truck. I am just thankful that my wife hadn't yet gotten up to the speed limit of 60mph.

The contact owns a 2008 Ford F-350. While driving 60 mph, the contact heard a loud banging noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. He noticed smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle. He pulled the vehicle over and noticed smoke coming from the hood of the vehicle. Also, the contact noticed a vast amount of oil on the ground where the vehicle was parked. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the engine needed to be replaced. Prior to the warning, the contact could smell oil burning while driving the vehicle. The current and failure mileages were 47,000.
Vehicle gives a loud metallic knocking sound from the transmission/ flywheel area gives sluggish performance and transmission slippage.
