I own a 2020 Ford F-350 super duty (VIN: [xxx] , mileage: ~20,000). The vehicle is subject to a recall involving the transmission output planetary four assembly replacement. Ford and the dealer insist that the transmission must be disassembled and rebuilt to complete this recall. I do not agree with this solution because it permanently alters the integrity of the original transmission. Additionally, the dealer (route 23 auto mall, butler NJ) has repeatedly mishandled repairs, including installing the fuel filter incorrectly multiple times. I have opened several case numbers with Ford customer service: recall case [xxx](02/02/2024) fuel filter dealer error: [xxx] (01/06/2025), [xxx] (01/15/2025), [xxx] (08/26/2025) transmission recall follow-[xxx] (02/25/2025) buyback case (denied): [xxx] (03/04/2025) despite multiple cases, Ford refused to buy back the vehicle because it is registered under a company name. This is unfair and leaves me with a defective and unsafe vehicle. I request NHTSA to investigate this recall and require Ford to provide a new transmission replacement instead of a rebuild, and to review Ford’s handling of dealer errors and warranty obligations. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

While driving 60 mph, in heavy rain, flat roadway the vehicle down shifted from 6th gear to 4th and from 6th gear to 3rd several times. The shift to 3rd from 6th was hard and accompanied by a temporary loss of forward momentum. No check engine light came on. All temperature gauges remained within normal range. The tachometer jumped and fell wildly during each of the events. I pulled off the highway at the next exit, turned off the ignition, and waited a few minutes. I restarted the truck and proceeded without additional problems.

The transmission 10r140 skip, jumps and hesitation when driving in any gear. The transmission jumps forward when backing up with out of control function and driver un able to control vehicle. There was a safety recall on this transmission on the 10r140 with the 6. 7 diesel truck. My truck is a 6. 2 liter gas engine with the same transmission 10r140 built in the same plant and same time frame as the safety recall 22s22 as stated in this letter attached. My transmission has failed and is a safety problem as addressed in this letter.
*component or system: the transmission (10r140) on my f350 truck has failed. The transmission has been inspected by a Ford service tech shop at dealership. * the truck would jump gear and jump or jolt when backing up. , slight pause in power when driving truck at any speed. * the truck is at a Ford dealership at this time. The service tech said this transmission needs to be replaced, it is unsafe to drive. The truck was bought brand new and only has 73,000 miles truck has been inspected by a Ford service tech for the transmission problem was happing on & off at times, but recently a warning lite came on 10/29/2023 which would come on & off at times I see that there was a safety recall 22s22 on this transmission 10r140 for super duty trucks built in 2020. The letter from Ford written by david j johnson director of service engineering operation, dated September 23, 2022. This letter stated trucks built in the kentucky truck assembly plant between October 1, 2019 through September 21, 2020 the 10r140 transmission the pinion thrust washers can disintegrate with a defected part. Per the VIN number my truck was built at the above kentucky plant on February 20, 2020 with this 10r140 transmission. My truck is built with a 6. 2 l gas engine with the 10r140 transmission f350 super duty. The service tech said this is the same transmission put in the diesel engine trucks. So if there is a safety recall 22s22 on the 10r140 transmission defect why was my truck not listed on this safety recall notice. My truck has the 10r140 transmission and has the same problems as mentioned in the above letter. Please let me know how to address the above issue. I can be reached at 850-305-9580 or floridianconstr@gmail. Com.
2017 Ford f350 superduty 6. 7l diesel will intermittently surge/buck while towing uphill under load causing loss of power and creating unsafe driving situation. When it happens I’ve also observed electrical power loss to obd-ii port where I have accessory guage installed to monitor critical truck systems like oil temp, trans temp, coolant temp, etc. . No dtc or fault codes are generated when this happens. I haven’t taken to dealer yet but I’ve researched and read lots of truck forums where multiple Ford owners have had the same issue. When they’ve taken their truck to the dealer they’ve been told this is “normal”. I don’t agree and believe this is a serious safety issue to a consumer that suddenly loses all power and must let off all acceleration while other cars are following/around vehicle when vehicle surges. This has now happened four different times and various speeds (30-60 mph).

At 55,000 miles torque converter locked up. Very difficult to stop vehicle due to excessive rpm’s. Ford has had problems with this and due to being out of year warranty. . Will not repair.
The owners manual states I have a tank capacity of 36 gallons. On e I can only fit about 26 gallons. If I were to take my average mpg and use the advertised 36 gallons to figure out how far I would run out of fuel and this would cause the vehicle to stall while driving. Ford is aware of this issue and knows how to fix it but declined to take care of the safety repair.
Transmission shifts erratically and sometimes completely doesn’t work. Has left me in traffic with no ability to negotiate vehicle and was almost hit on multiple occasions. There is a recall on vehicles built before 8-20 kentucky but my vehicle build date is 11-20. The local dealer said nothing they can do until my 11-20 kentucky build date truck is included. No offer of loaner and truck is not safe to drive !!!!! this has left me without. . . . Transportation. . . . . Faith in Ford trucks also. . . . . . Same vehicle has the 7. 3 ( godzilla ). Dead miss in 1 cylinder. Internet information says not common but it has happened on multiple occasions. Stuck lifter which causes loss of oil pressure and scoring of cylinder walls. Local Ford dealership said replace 1 head with remanned parts and new pistons. My f350 has 58000 miles one would think it should last longer than that my thoughts. Lemon law thank you for posting of this message. I have spoken personally with several people who have had the same issues and with similar results. Basically nothing from Ford.

Truck started doing the death wobble when hitting brakes and sometimes when hitting bumps in the road. Death wobble was very violent and last for a few seconds each time before we could get vehicle stopped. I made my local Ford dealer aware of my problem and they inspected it and said it was related to the drive shaft recall. I made the earliesr appointment which was a couple weeks later. I dropped my vehicle off and they said that due to this recall malfunction it had caused damage to my tie rods and drag lengths and those parts needed to be replaced. They said their damage was directly correlated to the drive shaft recall however I would have to pay out of pocket for that to be fixed ($1400). They have had my vehicle for a week and fixed the tire rods and drag lengths but do not have the part for the drive shaft recall. They have no time line for when they will be able to get the part and told me I may come get my vehicle and use it while I wait for the part but I have to sign a waiver stating that it's dangerous to drive. They refuse to give me a loaner vehicle if I would opt to leave my vehicle there while we wait for the part. I'm currently trapped in texas with 2 horses and can't get back home to pennsylvania because my vehicle is unsafe to haul the horses back 26 hours.

My vehicle was purchased from shottenkirk Ford new in 2016. They perform my maintenance regularly. Recently, I experienced a leak and took it in; I had it towed to them. Shottenkirk wanted $1200 because they stated that the water pump needed to be replaced. After replacing the water pump, the leak was worse. Shottenkirk wanted $1200 to replace parts they said needed replacing in the transmission cooling portion. They tried to get me to trade in my vehicle for a new one. I could not afford that. After they did that repair, they said there was still a small leak. I tried to head straight home, but the vehicle would not shift into third gear, stranding me in highway traffic. I had to have the vehicle towed back to them. Now, they state that the transmission needs repair and they want $9000. I stated I could not do this and they said I could trade my 2016 Ford diesel f350 with 4wd with numerous upgrades for a base-model 2008 Honda ridgeline 2wd with over 100,000 miles. After researching, I believe Ford and shottenkirk are well aware of the problems with the manufacturing of this truck, and I believe it needs to be addressed at a national level.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-350. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 21v536000 (power train) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The vehicle has approximately 73k miles and approximately 3 months ago the transmission started hard shifting in 2nd gear. There have been several incidents where I have almost had accidents due to this. Ford will not replace the transmission despite the internet being flooded with persons saying they are having the same issue with the same year, make and model.
High speed wobble in front end goes away of you slow down getting worse very scary, pulls steering wheel out of my grasp wife refusing to ride in the truck.

My transmission is experiencing a grinding and groaning noise and has occasional harsh shifting. I took it to the dealer and they are saying it’s not part of the recall.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-350. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission failed to operate as needed. The contact stated that when the brake pedal was depressed, the transmission shifted excessively hard. The vehicle had previously been taken to the dealer however, the failure could not be duplicated. Additionally, the contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated prior to the vehicle becoming undriveable. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? transfer case shift motor failure, transmission slipping in 3,2,1 gear and when accelerating from 7-8 gear. Electronics on dash have gone out while driving multiple times. Tailgate opened up while driving multiple times. Trailer brake. Drivers side faulty window (glass) fracture across entire window when not moving. Yes, all can be inspected or paper work reviewed for repairs complete. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? could not use 4 wheel drive in icy/snowy conditions to get to destination. Transmission slipping caused my foot to come off brake pedal and immediately had to reengage brake pedal due to the force of the transmission slipping (like the transmission was falling out from under the truck), nearly hitting the car in front of me on both occasions. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes. All issues have been confirmed by local Ford dealer and fixed by certified Ford mechanic, but once issue is repaired, the electronics issues and transmission issue continue to arise (exact same issues). Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? yes, by the dealership (Ford representatives). Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no, no warning signs for any of the defects other than a letter for the tailgate recall, brake recall and wiper recall.

Today I was getting ready to blow some snow out of my driveway and had to move my truck. It's normally parked at a slight incline where putting it in park is usually sufficient and have never needed to use a parking brake. When I re-parked the truck, I had to put it in 4wd to get up in the driveway because we had a lot of wet slushy snow. So after I get it parked, I put it back in 2wd, put it in park, and turn off the ignition. I then got out of the truck and started over to the snow blower to get back to work. I suddenly started seeing the truck rolling backwards as if it was in neutral (which is was not). I was running towards the truck to try and jump in and stop it, and then it suddenly stopped on it's own. But I bet it rolled back a good 3 or 4 feet before it finally stopped. It actually set off the alarm system in the truck, which was no surprise rolling that far. I feel this is definitely a safety issue because if a small child was behind the truck, or even myself, it could have been disastrous.

Multiple fail alerts for the transmission and engine. The transmission was not shifting gears, very loud noise inside cab and vehicle would barley move at times. Initially, dealer said nothing wrong and cleared the dash alert. Issue returned the next time it was driven. Multiple alerts stated the transmission torque converter clutch was not operating/failed, along with a four-wheel drive fault.
Unknown what the cause is. Put the vehicle in drive and once began moving forward, the transmission tool light came on, then shortly after the engine light appeared. Inside the cab got loud and the truck barely moved. Have called all local dealers. The dealer purchased the truck from 3mo ago has no one available to service. Will not diagnose, because the tool light is on. Next nearest said they are not providing appts, because they are several weeks out. Stated to drop off the vehicle, but unknown when they can get to it. A third can only diagnose a few weeks from now. As soon as I said the transmission was having trouble, the service tech immediately asked if it was a F-350 diesel. This has to be a recurring problem, for a specific question like that to be asked. Unable to get a diagnostic, as no dealer currently available.
While idling at an intersection my truck will “lunge” forward requiring me to apply excessive braking to prevent the vehicle from going into oncoming traffic. Ford has acknowledged that they have a known service bulletin on this issue related to cel p054f or ssm45540 which states that the idle control sensor is alerted that the torque converter is malfunctioning. Ford has replaced several 2016 f350 vehicles under warrantee but since mine failed after the 100k warrantee expired, they are unwilling to repair my vehicle under warrantee. Since this failure has such a significant potential human harm, I believe it should be repaired under recall or warrantee to protect the lives of 2016 f350 owners. My dealership has estimated $4,500 for the torque converter replacement and I would like your help to get Ford to acknowledge this defect and repair at no cost to the owner.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-350. The contact stated while driving 30 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to exceed 30 mph. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer then followed up with the dealer and was informed that the failure was not associated with NHTSA campaign number: 22v256000 (power train) even though the VIN was included. The manufacturer closed the case and referred the contact to the NHTSA. The dealer informed the contact that she would be responsible for the cost of the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
