36 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2002 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 02/12/2002

I was driving on the highway going about 75 mph when my rear tire blew out. Ford said it's my problem. The truck has 6000miles on it, which means the tires have 6000 miles on them. I would like to know how you get a blow out with that little miles. After reading everyone else's complaints I think it's about time Ford or firestone does something about this before we have too many deaths.

50 Tire Sidewall problem of the 1999 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 11/19/2000

A few weeks ago, I was travelling home when the right front tire of my 1999 Ford super duty blew out. As I was driving, a heard a loud bang followed by a hard pull to the right and major vibrations in the front end of the vehicle. I was able to pull the truck off to the side of the road and no one in the truck was injured. It appears to me by looking at the tire, that the tread has separated from the sidewall all the way around the circumference of the tire. I took the tire into firestone to let them examine it. The manager has given me a report that states "found no visual problems in the tire". With this type of blowout, I would have expected to see some scrap steel in the tread or a large nail hole (or something). We found no indications that the tire was injured. The tires were properly inflacted because I always make it a point to check air pressure on all long road trips, just as I did on November 19, 2000. The tires have more than half tread remaining on them. I've registered complaints with both Ford and firestone regarding this issue. No one is responding other than to tell me that this is not a tire that is being recalled. 6 maybe it should be. I'm concerned about the safety of my family riding in this vehicle. (dot number: vnw81xl119 tiresize: 265/75/r16).

51 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2000 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 11/01/2000

I have experienced a total of 5 sidewall blowouts on new general tires supplied on a F-350 200 Ford truck. The appearance is that Ford's tire problems extended to other makes and models in addition to the firestone recall. I still have most of the tires that blew/became severely warn/unbalanced. Have there been other complaints on these vehicles? (tiresize: 235_75_r16).

52 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2000 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 09/29/2000

Right rear outside tire (dual wheel vehicle) separated around the entire radius where the tread and sidewall join. We felt a brief vibration, followed by an explosion. The force tore the fender, running board and lights off the vehicle and threw us into another lane. Thankfully no one was injured and no other vehicles were in the immediate area. Also, the inside right rear tire remained in tact and helped to stabilize the vehicle. My children and their friends ride in this vehicle. Are these tires safe? (dot number: w10p3591 tiresize: lt21585r16).

53 Tire Sidewall problem of the 1997 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 09/23/2000

I am very diligent about checking the air pressure in my tires. I do not drive over the speed limit, usually around 60 mph on interstates. Fortunately my truck is a dual wheel pickup and it was one of the duals that had the sidewall blowout. I was hauling a horse trailer at the time. I heard you were investigating the steeltex r4s 16" tires. (tiresize: 16)( dot number: tire size: 16 ).

61 Tire Sidewall problem of the 1999 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 05/14/2000

The original tire problem that I had was a 3" slit in the sidewall. Upon noticing this I purchased a set of tires from a friend who had just purchased an f250 crew cab and wanted larger tires to lift his truck. The firestone tires we purchased had roughly 3000 miles on them and were the original tires Ford sold the truck with. I was simply pulling away from a curb when my tire completely blew out at the sidewall. I was not touching or rubbing the curb in any way. I have to replace this tire but I will save it if you need to see it. I unfortunately do not have the first tire that had a problem. The information on my second tire problem from the new set is as follows: firestone steeeltex radial a/t, lt265/75r16 do #8062 with a bmi 4976-1. ( dot number: tire size: lt265rx16e ).

64 Tire Sidewall problem of the 1999 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 10/17/1998

I nearly died as a result of a front, passenger tire that failed causing my vehicle to leave the roadway after I tried to correct after the blowout. I struck the end of an irrigation bridge and rolled my truck, breaking my neck, fracturing my skull and being hospitilized for seven weeks. I had a private engineer who is a consultant for goodyear look at the photographs of my tire and give a report that it was a failure due to running low on air. I had my tire pressure checked 1 day prior to the accident and have proof of that. I found two parts of the tire and the wheel recently and as the engineer said I would find melt nylon on the sidewall, I did find melted nylon. I have the two pieces of the tire in my possession. ( dot number: tire size: 235/85r 16 ).

66 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2000 Ford F-350

The sidewalls have dime size chunks of rubber that have fallen off the tire. This seems to be from physical damage (rubbing curbs), but this has never happened before on any vehicle I've owned and I have never seen this before. Rubbing a curb should only damage the white lettering, not pull out chunks of rubber. (tiresize: lt265/75)( dot number: tire size: lt265/75 ).
