44 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2012 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 07/09/2022

According to dealer tcm needs replacing however part is on back order with no eta. Dealer can install after market tcm but it comes with no warranty. Csp issued by Ford on tcm but have not issued a full recall even though this has been ab issue since 2011 model. Currently 10 of thousands of parts on back order. Ford needs to stand behind their cars and issue a full recall on this part and cover all repairs. Just recently had to have transmission repaired and not even 3 weeks later the tcm needs to be replaced.

45 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2012 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 07/04/2022

On 07/04/2022 my car had a no crank no start condition with a limp mode/pcm/tcm light coming on. It got progressively worse and would not shift into gear while driving; it was stuck in neutral. I took it to a Ford service shop and they determined I needed an entire new clutch assembly. Ford did the repair and then said I need a new transmission control unit. That part is on back order for an estimated 44,000 vehicles. Luckily they ended up having one and installed it and my car was repaired. The total bill was $4000 plus $987 for rental and transportation while it was being repaired. People need to be aware of how much of an inconvenience that Ford will not cover all transmission parts when they know the powershift transmission is faulty. Ford dealerships will not cover the clutches because it is a wear part. How am I going to have a $4000 repair bill at 79k miles.

46 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2015 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 05/24/2022

When accelerating, there is a shuddering sensation as you can feel the clutches slipping. The shifting is also sluggish at times. When in "sport mode" an error state can occur where the transmission fails to shift gears altogether and a warning comes up on the dashboard to service the transmission immediately. While that error is up, the shuddering becomes much worse and the engine will try to lurch forward at random times when it chooses the wrong gear. This lurching will fight the brakes too, decreasing stopping distance if the driver isn't extra diligent. This error state is cleared by stopping and starting the car again. There are no other visible dashboard warnings associated with this issue in daily driving. I took it to a local service center to be diagnosed and they determined it was either a worn clutch or a faulty tcm in need of a replacement. I took it to the Ford dealership in the area, and they narrowed it down to the clutch and not the tcm. Ford issued an extended warranty for this issue on other 2015 Ford Fiestas, but mine fell just outside the required build date despite having identical symptoms as what the warranty was for on the other cars. The car is only 7 years old with 92k miles on it, so if it was part of the aforementioned extended warranty (7 years or 100k miles) it would qualify, but not for much longer. This seems to be a known issue that Ford never fixed despite the car being outside the extended warranty cutoff.

The contact attempted to shift into drive (d) and the vehicle again only revved and did not move forward. The contact turned the vehicle off and had it towed to a dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed by the dealer that the tcm had to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired by the dealer under customer satisfaction program 14m02 transmission control module (power train). The vehicle had been repaired. The contact was called by the dealer, prior to her picking the vehicle up, and advised that the actual failure was the clutch, however the dealer advised that she was no longer under warranty coverage for customer satisfaction program 19n08 transmission clutch shudder (power train). 51 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2014 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 11/14/2021

At the time of this complaint, the Ford Fiesta that's the subject of this complaint has received 1 whole new transmission and 1 tcm replacement within 2. 5 years. The first two times there were warning lights, but now no warnings are showing. To put this issue into perspective, I have only owned this car for 2. 5 years, and it was purchased from a dealership used (however the dealership never mentioned the rampant transmission issues or informed me of the recent lawsuits about the Ford Fiesta). The replacement of the tcm was completed on September 16, 2021. This repair took a month to complete. Now, after being repaired for a mere 2 months, the car is exhibiting the exact same behaviors as both previous occurrences. Both previous repairs were completed by professionals, and should have fixed the issue. However, the transmission issues continue to reoccur. At this point, the car has become a major safety concern. The transmission issues are becoming extremely frequent after the "repairs" and "replacements", and are sudden in occurrence while driving. There is no warning the gear will slip into what seems to be "neutral", or that it will fail to accelerate. Additionally, the car will randomly fail to respond to gas pedal presses, especially at intersections or on hills. I fear that this car is dangerous to drive, as the issues are so sudden in nature. I have tried to settle the issue with Ford directly, but they have ignored me every step of the way. At one point, they said they would try to start a buy-back process, but then refused to return my follow-up calls.

53 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2012 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 09/30/2021

The vehicle is a 2012 Ford Fiesta, purchased on 3/4/2016 by 9/8/2016 I had to have the car repaired for transmission issues. As I was driving to work on the freeway on 9/30/21 I experienced warning lamps from the coolant system and the oil lamp (consistently stayed on since 7/08/21) I exited the freeway, and as soon as I did the vehicle shut off and the gear shifter froze not moving from park to drive or neutral nor would the car start. At this point, I was in the middle of workday traffic and had to get out of my car and put on my safety vest, and direct traffic around my vehicle to keep traffic from lining up right behind the car. Nonetheless I was fortunate that I was able to get off the freeway. I had the vehicle towed to an aaa mechanic who stated the ecm was "shot" and they could not get the vehicle into gear. This caused me to have difficulty getting a tow because the driver could not move the vehicle and a wheel lift had to be used instead of a flatbed tow truck. Multiple times the car was "repaired" at the dealership and since I have a parts warranty I then had the car towed again to the dealership. I found at this time the pcm computer was not communicating with the car allowing it to start. This dealership representative has been the one who worked on the vehicle in the past. At times they were able to reproduce problems or complaints I had regarding stuttering, jerking as if it were going to stall. On 8/7/20, the entire dashboard set of warning lights (engine, oil change reminder, engine oil pressure, power train reduced power) lit up as I was driving the vehicle stuttered jerked, and stalled in the middle of the street. Although I am not a mechanic, I believe the pcm, ecm, and tcm computers are related and cause the car to be unsafe. My fear is the car is a dangerous and unreliable vehicle and I have informed the dealer service representative that I do not wish to repair the vehicle at this time even if I could afford to do so.

54 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2016 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 09/27/2021

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fiesta. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle, the "service transmission now" message appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission control module had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer who confirmed the diagnostic results. The dealer informed the contact that the parts for the repair were on back order. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist because the vehicle was out of warranty. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA to file a complaint. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 97,000.

Ford issued a 14mo2 warranty extension on this part. We brought the vehicle to covert Ford of hutto, TX who confirmed the warranty extension. However, they would not cover the repair, because the extension expired 3 months prior. Due to the covid pandemic, the high risk elderly category of the driver, she did not seek repair earlier. 57 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2011 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 06/09/2021

My 2011 Ford Fiesta shudders, has sudden or delayed acceleration, delays in downshift, difficulty stopping/braking,it hesitates when changing gears. Also has harsh engagement. I purchased from a private owner in 2021. I have contacted Ford motor company headquarters. I have taken it to my local Ford dealership, told them what it does, they would not drive it so they could see what it does and how dangerous it can be at times. All they said was "OH it's the tcm and we got them back ordered for 6 mths" but if I want to pay for and order the part and just leave my car setting at the Ford dealership until the part comes in I can do that. Then pay god only knows how much for them to put the part on. This is the only vehicle I have right now. I told them that. They said "OH we can't give ya no loaner car for that long. And the longer you drive it like that the more it's gonna tear up other parts of your car. And the Ford motor company said OH you missed the deadline for the buy back program or any compensation for your cari Ford has failed to meet the standards required by the federal motor safety commission and yhey refuse to acknowledge me or help me in any way. All the other 2011 Ford Fiesta cars with the dual shift clutch transmission were fixed or bought back or the owners were compensated. I am in the same unsafe predicament as those consumers were. I'm not asking for a brand new vehicle or thousands of dollars. I just want my car fixed and something to drive to work and to the grocery store while they fix it. Or another car of equal value to what my car is supposed to be. Thank you in advance for anything you can help me with.

59 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2011 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 03/24/2021

My vehicle began to feel like driving a boat. It was shuddering and driving roughly. My vehicle was repaired by a recall that I believe reprogrammed the tcm, 14m02tsb 16-0129 was done yesterday. Although I can feel some improvement in the 35 mi drive home, it still shudders and feels the same. This did not fix the problem. My boyfriend researched through various service bulletins and found 14m01. He then jacked up the car, removed the tire to get a better look and saw the leak. It does not leak enough to leave noticeable marks on driveway but is leaking. When I called, I was told that my vehicle was no longer covered as I am just outside of this warranty since I have slightly over 127797 miles and this ended at 100,000 or 10 years. My car is a 2011. If I had been aware of this problem, it would have been fixed during that time. Since there was no code or warning and no visible evidence of the leakage, I was unaware. The dealer who reprogrammed the tcm was unaware, there are no codes relating to this issue on the car. They only code I now have is an oxygen sensor or something code that showed up after they reprogrammed the tcm. I believe Ford should extend this warranty for these effected cars, there are many with this problem, we have researched through the complaints. I want Ford to cover the costs of parts, labor and any costs related to the repair of this problem that they were fully aware of. I know they say the 2 bulletins are not related but I feel that they are.

60 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 03/21/2021

Purchased used on March 2021 dealership somehow made it drive perfect until I drove it for 2 days. Then noticed engine shifting issues, loss of transmission engagement while driving, no-start, or a lack of power. Idles very rough in parked position- spitting and sputtering. Vehicle stalling, losing power while driving, rpms at 4 while on highway @ 65-70 mph as if it never changed out of 2nd or 3rd gear. Called Ford and had the tcm updated April 2021 at gabriel Ford dealership, livingston texas. The update did not help and I was told that I needed to ?drive it like I stole it? but that makes the power-train issues worse. Ford dealership pointed me to NHTSA to write a complaint. As of may 15, 2021 it doesn't matter if its on highway, local in town, low mph or 65 mph the transmission continues to jerk, lose power, sputter, after updating the check engine warning light never came on when transmission issues happened. Vehicle jerking. After driving about 20 miles with rpms at 4 stopping at a light then trying to accelerate the vehicle sputtered and would not gain acceleration, very slow to gain acceleration. Loss of acceleration power will cut out & car will buck & sputter, also makes a grinding or noise then stopped. It's almost caused accidents with my children in the car!. Rpm revs up really high but the speed doesn?t change. At a red light my car began acting funny when the light turned green the car was hesitant to go it was having trouble shifting and accelerating the check engine light never came on. This vehicle power train transmission is faulty and very dangerous. Highway or street driving, in traffic, presenting a dangerous driving hazard. Current mileage @144,000.

61 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2011 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 01/27/2021

Car did not shift into second gear while making left turn in intersection multiple times. Jolted and shook while turning with oncoming traffic. I must now make sure there is at least 10 seconds worth of space before taking a left turn in order to feel safe. Took to mechanic and they stated it was tcm diagnosis and to talk to Ford. Spoke to them and they stated recall period was expired.

62 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2011 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 10/12/2020

I have had the tcm on this vehicle replaced twice after transmission malfunction light suddenly came on. It came on a third time and the issue still causes transmission malfunction indicator to illuminate, however this time it is my dual clutch. Same symptoms in the vehicle every time. With no warning, the vehicle will suddenly lose power, fail to change gears, shutter forward after stopping, come to a complete stop in the middle of driving. Two days ago driving uphill, my vehicle, with no warning at all, started going in reverse, down the hill. I am in the middle of a class action suit with Ford that is taking forever to settle. I have tried to get Ford to replace my clutch, but they claim it is not part of the extended warranty like the tcm is now, even though it causes the same issues with the vehicle. I can pay to have it fixed myself, but it can go out at any given time again, with no warning. Ford does not believe these issues are safety issues. They are. These cars do these things suddenly. As I am reaching out to Ford about this, they do however inform me that there is a recall on my door latches. They consider this a safety issue, but not the transmission? unbelievable.

65 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2011 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 08/01/2020

About the middle of last year I noticed the problem while driving,so I stopped driving it. About two months ago I tried to start my car and the vehicle shut down completely for the second time and I had it towed to the Ford dealership in southgate, they said that Ford motor told them to reset the software in the car, they did and got it running again. They also told me that there was a clutch problem and that was causing the engine light to be on. What they didn't tell me was that NHTSA and Ford motor had a recall to fix the transmission clutch shudder/transmission input shaft seal which has a warranty extension for free, they told me it would cost me over $2000 dollars to have fix. The field service action number is 14m01 and the fsa tittle is transmission control module extended warranty coverage. I bought this car in January 2018 from dick genthe Chevrolet and have not been able to drive it safely since the middle of 2019. Until now,I tried to get them to take the car back, and they would not. I would like for Ford motor company and their dealership to fix my car for free or give me a 2018 in it's place with a minimum payment of 158. 12 which is what I'm still paying for the 2011 Ford Fiesta. Thank you for your time in addressing this safety issue. I would like to feel safe in my car when I'm driving.

My battery went dead on 5/26/20, it was unable to be jumped off at auto zone. I bought a new battery for $108. After installing my dash appeared transmission malfunction service now, prior to this I had no issues other than my purge control valve has went out twice. I called the dealership and he immediately stated the battery dying caused the transmission control module to burn out and that it is a common issue. He said my vehicle should have been included in a recall/extended warranty but my vintage was not included and he wasn't sure why. He said it would be a $600 fix to reach out to Ford motor company about including my vehicle which they refused after calling twice. I was at auto zone when this happened to have my battery tested because 3 times in the last month I have had trouble starting my car. I called jenkins and wynn in clarksville TN as well as Ford motor company recall customer relations twice.
