Fsa # 14e08; fsa # 14m01; fsa # 14m02 approx. Mileage at time of first complaint was 1500 miles. Current mileage is 119,xxx January 2018 approximate beginning of complaints is January 2013. Complaints are: -excessive hesitation / shudder / "whiplash-like" feeling when slow and normal acceleration is applied during take off, in all driving conditions. -excessive grinding and occasional clunking noise during slow and normal acceleration after a complete stop. -as of July 2017, occasional grinding with "clanking" noise occurs when slowing down to a complete stop; typically after approximately 30 minutes of highway driving and than at the first stop. -may 2014 to current, red fluid (transmission fluid) found on ground after being parked for more than 12 hours. Fluid seems to be coming from a shaft seal; at time of observation, cv shaft was found to have excessive play ((the service company at the time had the vehicle in the air and I observed the cv shaft rotating more than 1 to 1 1/2 inches (approximately) when no play should have been present; I could also hear the bearings grinding or rubbing. )) -vehicle seems to randomly lose power during first ignition startup. I would start the car, a few seconds later it would have a complete loss of power, I would than restart it, and it would operate as normal. Approximate number of this occurring is no more than 5 times since January 2015. -most recent complaint, October 2017, while accelerating for highway on ramp, vehicle lost complete power for approximately 2 seconds (speed at time of power loss was approx. 57mph). I lost control of steering and vehicle "shifted" or "jumped" to the left. The vehicle made a fast recovery on its own and continued as normal. Weather conditions were not harsh; there was slight rain / mist and above 55 degrees fahrenheit.

First complaint filed 7/13 reference # 10524870. Transmission made a clanking noise when driving from 10-60 mph. Also jerks back on occasion from a stopped position and going forward. The cylinder block, hex head, and gasket and clutch replaced. Since my complaint I have been in arbitration and received a 5 year/100,000 mile power train extended service plan warranty on 12/2013. The care still makes the clanking noise when shifting "sounds like a loose bicycle chain". Since then I have had a oil leak and on 4/17/14 the camshaft was replaced. Last week the oil was changed and now I have a transmission leak. I have called several Ford dealers and turned away from one due to 3 week wait time for any transmission problems and most Ford dealers ae experiencing the same problem with 3-4 weeks to get an appointment for a transmission check.
Within the first 2 weeks of owning this car, I noticed a grinding rubbing sound coming from the front of the car as I would accelerate, generally it would stop after 2nd or 3rd gear. My husband made sure nothing was rubbing under the car but the noise continued. As we drove more miles, new symptoms appeared such as lurching when gas pedal was released and depressed, shuttering upon acceleration to the point where the car barely moves, while idling at a stop it sometimes lurches and bucks, and down shifting while accelerating causing the engine to rev to 2500rpm while driving. Also, while using the cruise control, the car will downshift and rev without provocation just driving on a flat straight highway. My husband drives me to work sometimes because the car is so unpredictable and dangerous, I'm afraid I will get stuck in an intersection and get broadsided or I'll lurch into another car.
2013 Ford Fiesta bought 11/23/12. Problems within 4 days; it's definitely a death trap. To repair shop 11/27/12, 11/30/12, 12/12/12 & 03/27/13 for intermittent problems. Initially started hearing a buzzing from right side of motor & smelling something hot like rubber burning. The original problems were joined with a grinding noise from the transmission area on the left side of the car (loudest between 32 & 42 mph), it began to hesitate, shutter, stall, lurch, not move forward until high rpms reached & then it suddenly lunged forward. Difficulty pulling steep hills/driveways & doesn't reverse at times. We've nearly been rear-ended & broadsided on more than once; I almost rear-ended someone else. Cruise control problem on interstate could have gotten my family killed; tapped brakes to disengage cruise control as I was being passed on one side & was approaching a slow moving vehicle. I pulled to the left lane & proceeded past the slower vehicle building my speed back up to 70; I pushed the resume button & suddenly the car's speed dropped drastically & then jumped back up causing the rpms to rev very high before returning to normal. Thankfully no one was behind me; if it would have happened in the other lane we would have been hit by a semi-truck. The car continues to develop more problems each day. In April 2013, the car was parked on a level store lot. My son had just entered the car & I was getting in the driver's side. I had just got my butt on the seat & my right leg in the car when I hear a clicking noise, then the car started to roll forward; I immediately jerked my left leg in & instinctively pressed the brake & reached for the gear shift thinking I forgot it in gear but to my surprise it was in park. Now I always pull the emergency brake & at home for added safety I put a block in front of the tire also.
Vehicle has a powershift automatic transmission that acts like a manual: roll back assist not working properly: vehicle jerking: vehicle lurching at stops: 2nd incident may 2013: same issues added car losing power: November 2014: same issues: transmission drivability issues: roll back issues loss of power issues. March 2015, all same issues: all issues and check engine light on this last time due to transmission circut issue reported continue to fix transmission: continues to break down. The vehcile has never ran "good" always transmission issues: loud noises, car losing power while driving, lurching at stops accelerating at stops, no response to acceleration. Four times in three years in for fixes that do not work. Car is unsafe as the loss of power is now more frequent.

The incidents I report are caused by the transmission. This new dual clutch system is not selecting appropriately the right gear and often cause to have the car moving ultra slowly at start. Not to mention the huge metallic noises when downshifting at slow speed.

We questioned the dealer salesperson about the erratic behavior the night we purchased the car. We were told the vehicle had a manual transmission that shifted automatically. The vehicle has been to the dealership and or the dealership has been questioned many times regarding the issue. Most recently there was a notice for a reprogramming of the transmission, this did not resolve the issue. The dealers still insist that the behavior is normal. This behavior has now created many close call situations from lunging when going forward and reverse. The shifting is very erratic and makes a lot of noise from 0 to 20 mph or so. I'm also concerned about the resale value of this vehicle since I just recently starting doing research on the issue and have found it's a widespread problem. Please advise.
