36 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2021

Hmm. . . There was not an incident to report per say but the next button stated incident report. I am more or less reporting a complaint due to my 2013 Ford Focus has been at autonation Ford since 5/17/21 for three recalls but only one has been taken care of and according to the advisor susan lee on recall # 14m02 for tcm, that once they perform the reset procedure that my car may have 50/50 chance of starting due to the dual clutch transmission causing me to replace the clutches at my expense out of pocket. This I do not understand since my car was running before I took it in for the recall. I simply was secondly, the system haven't confirmed the other two recalls because the mechanic apparently never completed them while having my car for the past two weeks which I thought he would. I am filing this complaint for safety reason because I was advised that I could just take my car without having the tcm reset and take a chance of my car still being able to start or not and I would like to know if the repair of the recall may stop my car from starting then why should I be held responsible for a replacement of the dual clutches for my transmission?.

37 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2020

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the transmission was slipping. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle would fail to respond while attempting to drive from a complete stop or shifting into gears. The transmission warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the transmission clutch and the transmission control module (tcm) were replaced twice by the dealer. However, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission clutch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

38 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2020

Ford transmission problems wont go away!! transmission shutter and poor initial acceleration. The clutch has been replaced twice and tcm twice by Ford dealer. After the last tcm replacement in 2016 problems continued and I was turned away by Ford dealerships because no engine light came on. Now that finally a check engine light came on u0101, p07a3, I am now over 100, 000 miles the clutch is no longer covered under warranty but the tcm is. I have had several incidents where the car lost all acceleration abilities while driving on a busy highway or simply fail to accelerate and a traffic light causing major delays for anyone around me. It has been a saftey concern for years due to the unpredictability of the transmission intermittently not allowing acceleration.

39 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2020

Loss of power when engaged, transmission slips to lower gear causing u to slow down and will not engage back in to drive then jerks when gas is applied. I have eluded several accidents and cause others to swerve to miss me. Check engine light is on. When taken in to dealer they have changed the tcm 3 or 4 times but is still doing the same thing.

40 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2020

The transmission control actual failed while I was driving on the interstate. It was as if the car went into neutral and would not go back into gear. When I pressed the accelerator pedal, it would only rev the rpms high and fall back down, no reaction by the transmission whatsoever. I was almost hit by several cars while trying to move over, with the transmission not responding to my gas pedal. There is an active recall/extended warranty on the tcm transmission control module for my vehicle. The check engine light came on, and I scanned the code with a professional obd2 reader. The code was for tcm. Capital Ford at charlotte called me and told me it was the "shift actuator", (a $60 part), not the tcm, and it was not covered under the recall. They wanted $2800 to replace the part, a $60 part. I called Ford, and they gave me a case number to "try" to get it repaired under warranty, but the service director at capital Ford told me he cannot do anything unless Ford tells him to do so, and thus far they have not approved anything to be repaired under warranty. They still have my car in the shop. This is a death trap waiting to happen. I am glad it was me driving and not my wife.

41 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2020

I purchased a Ford Focus se from mccarthy Ford in illinois in 2015. Since having the car, I've constantly experienced jerking while accelerating, lack of acceleration, which was dangerous, while making a left turn with oncoming traffic, or on the highway with trucks speeding by you because my car wouldn't accelerate quick enough. I constantly complained to Ford dealer about these issues and the kept repairing it under the guise that OH your tcm(transmission control module) beds reprogramming or it was your car was originally a stick shift that they turned automatic, and what you feel, is your car shifting gears. The car was under warranty and they assured me I didn't have transmission issues, so I let them fix this same issue more than 5 times over the course of warranty. In July 2020, my car stopped and wouldn't drive at all. I took it to Ford, and they claimed it was the tcm again, and supposedly fixed with no customer to me. However, the car never stop jerking or the acceleration was always lacking, like it's always done, before and after a repair. October 11,2020, I take my car in for the exact same symptoms, and now I need a transmission clutch, that Ford claims is $1700 dollars to fix. Now, I took my car in for these exact issues, I've been experiencing, all these years. But, now my warranty is up on the transmission and now it's supposedly gone out. I have less than 6 months to pay on this vehicle, I'm a single mom, a student, and unemployed due to the pandemic. I absolutely do not have this money, as I feel Ford as blackballed me, and as I read reviews, apparently thousands of other people as well. I am devastated, and don't know what else to do. Is there any way NHTSA can help, or hold Ford accountable for this? the potential danger I've dealt with while driving this vehicle all these years, with minimal acceleration and shifting gears. Thank you! !.

42 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2020

When I went to warm up my car the check engine light is on and the transmission doesn't work right. It takes a while to engage the gear and won't go past 30 mph. It shifts very rough. It has been doing this for a while now every two days now. I have done the tcm adaptive learning service in forscan and I have updated the pcm and tcm and abs modules to the latest calibration. After the tcm adaptive learning it shifts fine but the dtc's will come back on in a few days. The dtc's are p2831, p2833, and p287b. I don't know what else to do? the battery and battery cables are fine.

43 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2020

Tcm transmission control module error code caused the car to stall and not shift gears when driving.

44 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2020

While driving, vehicle experienced sudden hard shifting and jerking. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a bad tcm and two bad clutches. The bad tcm was covered under an extended warranty by Ford under customer satisfaction program 14m02 (10 yr/150k mile warranty), but the clutches were not eligible under program 14m01 (7 yr/100k mile warranty) because the car was 7 yr 5 mo old. It is a major safety issue to have failed shifting while driving. This is a known issue with this transmission and these clutches need to be recalled and promptly repaired in all affected vehicles.

45 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2020

Vehicle will not shift correctly. Will often stall out while driving and will not engage gears even when sitting in the middle of a busy road. Will not shift into reverse. Shifts hard when it does shift. Basically been doing this off and on since shortly after buying the vehicle. However Ford simply reset the pcm and charges for this. Vehicle continues to fault after this.

46 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 02/29/2020

The issue has happened 3 times since I have owned the car. The car was shaking when I would push on the gas. There was a delay with exceleration. I was driving on the city street and the car would not excelerate the transmission was not changing gears. I had to coast down the street to make it to somewhere I could pull over. Once stopped the car would not go into any gear and would not drive. I had the car towed to the Ford dealership each time I was told that it was the transmission control module and the clutch that needed to be replaced.

47 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2020

Faulty transmission defect relating to the clutch and transmission control module in the dps6 transmission. Loss of clutch engagement, loss of power and no start from engine. Ford motor company failed to determine my car to qualify for a clutch and transmission control module replacement. Ford motor company also failed to determine my car to qualift for a clutch and transmission control module replacement falling under the customer satisfaction program 14m01 - supplement #7 and customer satisfaction program 15b22- supplement #3. I have emailed david j. Johnson on Sunday February 2, ,2020 and received a call from mr. Johnson executive office on February 5, 2020 and have yet to received anything.

48 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2019

The transmission doesn't shift right and these dtc's are present. P2831, p2832, p287b. I have ran the tcm adaptive relearn service and these will come back on sooner or later. I have mainly been only warming up my car and they will come back on sometimes in a few weeks. I have changed out the negative battery cable due to corrosion and I'm not sure what to do now? is a tcm module update needed?.

49 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2019

My battery unexpectedly died. Upon further diagnostics my battery is charge and is fine. Car code reader indicates tcm power level low. My vehicle was stationary in a parking lot where I recieved a jump.

52 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2019

My 2013 Ford Focus stalled out in the middle of an intersection and would not start due to a faulty tcm. We do not make right-hand turns on red because the vehicle does accelerate properly and shimmers and shakes when accelerating. We have advised Ford of this issue and was advised this is normal performance for this car.

53 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2019

The vehicle started shuddering badly between gear shifts and transmission began slipping in and out of gear at highway and city driving speeds. Returned the vehicle to the dealership, parkway Ford in winston salem, nc for evaluation and repair. This was the 8th incident with this vehicle. They replaced the clutch, seal assemblies and reprogramed thepcm/tcm. I got in the vehicle to drive home and my first worry was if I would make it home safely and without a mishap.

54 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2019

Transmission fails to engage, skips gears, accelerator does not move car initially but will rev high then engage. Multiple repair attempts have failed to correct the situation from replaced clutch plates to tcm replacements to reprograms of the module.

55 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2019

When attempting to pull out into traffic from a stop, the car suddenly lost power. Pressing the accelerator was just causing the engine to rev. Then the car shifted into gear and suddenly lurched forward. It then dropped out of gear and lost power again. Car continued to shift randomly, drop out of gear, and suddenly shift into gear and accelerate creating a very dangerous situation. It would not shift correctly after that until I took it to a dealership and they updated the transmission control module software. Service advisor at the dealership said this was a common problem and would likely happen again.

56 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2019

Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that rain had entered their vehicle. Water appeared in the vehicle more than once and it was a distraction to the contact's driving. The clutch vibrated when the gear was switched. This happened every time after switching out of first gear. No warning lights illuminated. 57 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2018

Many people are aware of the transmission control module problem with the 2013 Ford Focus that has been recalled. However, I have had another problem with my Ford Focus that I researched and found that many more people are having the same or similar problem with their fuel tank collapsing and needing to replace most of the components in the entire fuel system. I had the purge valve replaced as an out of pocket expense as my extended warranty has expired, hoping this would fix the problem. I was informed by the mechanic that to fix my car completely, it would most likely need a new fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel line and of course the purge valve ( which I had replaced ). My car is only 5 years old and I do not know how or why I need to replace the entire fuel system. I have seen many posts describing the same situation on carcomplaints. Com and know of someone locally who I know personally who has the exact same problem with their 2013 Ford Focus. When driving, my engine will shut off completely. From time to time, my oil light will come on as my engine stalls out and tries to 'die' and I can press the gas to 'revive' the engine and keep it from shutting off. This repair of the fuel system was estimated to cost $2,000 to repair and I just don't have it. I listed my car online for $5,400 as is and have no one interested in it at that price after I've invested nearly $20,000 in this car in the 4 years I've been making payments, maintenance and repairs on it. I've also had the power steering replaced on this vehicle when I had around 80,000 miles on it. The power steering failed while in motion and almost caused an accident. This particular vehicle is a dangerous one. Buyer beware.

58 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2018

Prior to incident, vehicle would intermittently shudder on take-offs. Incident involved vehicle traveling on an interstate highway at 70 mph on the outskirts of a large metro area when all power to wheels was lost. The check engine light turned on. Engine would rev when accelerator was pressed, but car acted as if in neutral. Car coasted to a stop. The car would not shift out of neutral until after the car sat for over an hour. The car was towed to a Ford dealership. Ford service department advised that the transmission control module (tcm) had failed and a new tcm was installed and car now works most of the time, but intermittent shudder on take off still occurs, though less frequently than before.

59 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2018

Although we have experienced several problems with the transmission operation previously, the following incident left my wife stranded on the side of the road when driving home from the grocery store. "on 08/12/2019 at 67,331 miles, while traveling 35 mph approximately 1/2 mile after the restart of a warm engine and lightly accelerating on a county road, the shifting of the transmission became erratic and the check engine and check transmission lights came on in the instrument cluster. The driver pulled of the road and called me for assistance. I drove to her location and I slowly drove the Focus to the Ford dealership with the other driver following in our other car. The dealership, on the next day, replaced the transmission control module and the clutch assembly. " the vehicle operated well for 6 months and 6,000 miles until the entire transmission had to be replaced at my cost ($6,600) due to excessive multiple bearing noise. Ford, through poor customer service, would not respond to assist in the repair cost.

60 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2018

This car has a faulty powershift transmission. It has been "fixed" under the recall 4 times and now needs to have the clutch assembly repaired or replaced. Ford has 2 different extended warranty categories for this problem. One that covers the entire transmission and one that covers just the transmission control module. They arbitrarily only covered our car for the transmission control module, despite having work done on the entire transmission.

61 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2018

When trying to accelerate from a stop, there is a major hesitation/lag. Experience shuttering when accelerating from a stop. Engine revs, but transmission will not engage. Stalled in middle of an intersection when tcm failed. Multiple occasions. All paper work has been attached. Tcm replaced and clutch replaced many times.

62 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2018

Ford motor company / brighton Ford, refusing to cover vehicle repair even though car falls within all parameters and exhibits not only one, but both conditions covered under two separate programs at Ford, (14mo1 transmission clutch shutter) and (14mo2 transmission engagement or loss of power) with all symptoms present. Early in June, my 2013 Ford Focus (VIN- 1fadp3f23dl162917) began experiencing a periodic shutter while driving. Issue progressively got worse. Some driving times no issues noticeable, other driving times shutter apparent. As time went by, the problem progressed into a grinding noise while it was shifting into different gears. In late June I attempted to make an appointment at my local dealership (brighton Ford) to have the transmission looked at, scheduled first available appointment at brighton Ford Monday, July 16th. While on the freeway driving home from work Sunday July 15th the car began to lose power while trying to shift gears. After a short period, the transmission fault service now light appeared, and car stayed in what seemed to be a sluggish mode. I was able to drive it under that condition directly to the dealership to leave it at the overnight drop location to be looked at during my scheduled appointment the following morning. Did receive a call from service advisor curtis comstock Monday 7/16 advising that without actually tearing the transmission apart to determine the cause, being unable to drive the vehicle to replicate the shutter and no apparent leaks or contamination this issue would not be covered under warranty. This particular model year vehicle with the dps6 automatic transmission has two know transmission issues: customer satisfaction program 14mo1 - transmission clutch shutter / transmission input shaft seal warranty extension. Customer satisfaction program 14mo2, transmission control module extended warranty coverage.

63 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2018

1fadp3n29dl196247 fors Focus 2013 hatchback titanium has problems with the tcm transmission modulator. This car has been babied and has in my opinion a factory defect with the transmission.

64 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2017

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. While attempting to start the vehicle, the contact heard a clicking noise but the vehicle failed to start. The contact had the battery checked and found no issues. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the tcm needed to be replaced and stated that the vehicle needed to be taken to a Ford dealer. The vehicle was then towed to the ray price dealer in mt pocono, Ford (2971 PA-940, mt pocono, PA 18344 (570) 839-1111) where it was diagnosed that the pins and latch fractured and the tcm needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired for the failure, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 90,124.

65 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2017

I was driving home going about 65 mpg in a straight line on the highway and the car lost propulsion, started decelerating. I pulled of to the side of the road as fast as possible and the car wouldn't change gears, and stalled (like what happens when you don't depress the clutch). This is the second time this happened, the first time they reprogrammed the tcm claiming that was the cause. This time they are claiming the fuel pump is the cause, though I am skeptical.

66 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2017

Experienced clutch shuddering issue. Have had the tcm reflashed at least twice and have had the dual clutch replaced twice in less than 10k miles.

67 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2017

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. While driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning and was unable to restart. The vehicle was towed to edd rogers valley Ford (located at 111 auto ln, sparga, TN 38583, (931) 738-2311) where it was diagnosed with a faulty transmission control module that needed replacement. The contact stated that the module was replaced at no cost to her. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was unknown.

68 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2017

After purchasing the vehicle brand new in June 2013, the car would stall/jerk/grind when trying to take off after being stopped at a red light or stop sign, or just accelerating to increase speed. Had to take it in to the dealer to have the clutch repaired and even after this was performed, it still jerks, especially when the air conditioner is on. In January 2016, had to take it to the dealer to reprogram the pcm/tcm and perform clutch which was the 15b22 software update issued by Ford motor company. After 36,000 miles the horn stopped working. After 65,000 miles the check engine light turned on and after taking it to the dealer, was told it had a code p0456 which is a small evap leak present. Since it's not under warranty, I have to pay $119 just to diagnose the problem. Now I have a safety recall notice 16s30 which states it may be possible that my side door latch may break, which may make the door difficult to latch. All this on a vehicle that is under 100,000 miles and almost 4 years old.

69 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2017

Car cannot accelerate or decelerate properly. The car has had three clutches and two transmission control modules, and still exhibits the same dangerous characteristics. It hesitates on take off, will accelerate in the wrong direction (go forward in reverse and vice versa) . The rpms will randomly shoot up to 4 or 5k while driving, or you can loose speed without warning. I have had the power to the car fail while driving with no warning on a city street. It is especially bad on hills and at stop signs/lights. It shakes and shudders at low speeds. Has been to dealer almost a dozen times, all under "warranty" for a flawed transmission design.

70 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2017

We have had the tcm replace one, the cluthes replaced twice and the shuttering, non shifting, shfting when not supposed to are still happening. After multiple visits to two Ford dealers, Ford is unable to fix these dangerous problems. My wife was on the freeway traveling at 70mph when the car suddenly died, no power. Lucky it was very early in the morning and there was no traffic. Under normal driving conditions, my wife may have been severely injured or worse. These 2011 - current year Ford Focus and fiesta are a danger on our roads, Ford must be made to recall these death traps.
