Once uphill, pulled into a driveway and put in reverse to turn around, car would not go reverse, would go forward, into park and neutral, but not reverse. Shut off all accessories (a/c, radio etc. ) put in park and turned car off. Waited 5 minutes and turned car back on and reverse worked. 14 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2015

I purchased the vehicle at the Ford dealership in columbus GA in September of 2014. I have never owned a Ford before. But doing the test drive the car would roll back on hills, and it also did it after parking with the car in gear and switched off. The salesman explained that it was normal for the car to roll back and we should always use the park brake, on take off the cars transmission would slip and was slow to change gears he said it was normal with all small cars. We purchased the car with just over 19000 miles on it. Three months later I called the service shop about it because the car started slipping at the transmission and we found out there were electrical recalls on the car and warranty call backs about the transmission. After not getting a call back because they were backed up. I call back two weeks ago and told them that the car stalled with me and my grandkids were sitting in the back. Cars had to run off the side of the road to avoid hitting us from behind running at 50 mph plus this was very scary. I was told that Ford wanted all cars with that problem brought in for service right away, then l was told it would be after December 2015 before they could get to me because they were already backed up on cars with those problems. Were are paying for a car that has been sitting. We have had the car for over a year and driven it only 6000 miles because it is to dangerous to drive the car drops from 65 mph to 15 on the freeway with cars running at higher speeds around you they called me back after I informed them of this . After once again not hearing from them for two weeks I called and was given and appointment for 8:30 am the following morning. When the transmission stalls at 60 mph the engine light comes on . I was also told they don't have a loaner car and if its what that think is wrong it could take a month . Guess I will be paying for a rental.

16 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

17 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2015

After having the transmission checked for leaks yesterday at rizza Ford, they told me a new clutch assembly was ordered but the vehicle was safe to drive until then. On 355 this morning, the transmission slipped and I was unable to drive the vehicle. I can't get the car in reverse and can only drive forward at a low rate of speed. There are issues with this make/model's transmission nationwide.

18 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2014

The clutch assembly was reprogrammed on 11/14/14 at 14,219 miles. The assembly was replaced on 3/23/15 at 16,784 miles after waiting 1 month for the parts. On 7/5/16 the assembly was tested and failed. It was replaced on 9/1/16 at 25,262 miles after waiting for the parts. Within the first week after this third repair, the transmission was starting to slip again. Every time it has been worse than the time before. The last time the transmission slipped from 1st to 2nd gear. It stuttered, hesitated to the point of stalling, jerked and lurched forward when the 2nd gear finally engaged. There was no acceleration and it was a struggle to climb the smallest hill. This car is dangerous and frankly scares me to death. I have to wait to make a left turn on city streets until the traffic is very clear. The cars waiting behind me are blowing horns, cursing me and giving crude gestures. Merging onto the freeway is truly frightening. Stop and go traffic finds me stuttering along. Ford has known of this problem since 2011 and has yet to find a solution. They call it a service action when actually it should be a recall. This car is not safe. The slipping is not too bad now but it is getting progressively worse. It does not happen every time so I have to be alert to the problem whenever I stop and go. If the problem is any worse this time, it will be totally unsafe to drive. I have less than 26,000 miles on the car and it is not yet paid for. The resale/trade in value to dramatically decreasing if I can sell it at all.

19 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2014

The transmission in my car has failed 7 times since 7/15/2014. The transmission fails and causes the car to jerk, shudder, lag and jump in traffic. I have nearly rear-ended many vehicles and was nearly hit 3 times because the transmission slipped while making a left hand turn. This car is not safe to drive.

20 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2014

While accelerating from standing position (at stop light pending green left turn) I hear grinding and a pop noise coming from engine when transmission apparently slipped (disengaged) so that the forward drive will not operate. Car's momentum kept car moving forward but without power from drivetrain. Putting car in reverse gear causes severe grinding noise and no change in motion. Car does not have forward or reverse movement when put into gear and is completely disabled. Car that was behind me suddenly swerved to prevent rear-end collision with my rapidly decelerating vehicle (with no brake lights activated to warn of rapid deceleration).

21 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

22 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

The transmission jumps and slips and on longer trips it gets to a point where the car is not safe to drive when you try to start moving it will bogg down and then it will take off and jump shutter we took it back to the dealer and they did rebuild the trans it run ok for about a month and the problem returned we took it back to the dealer and now they say this is normal for this car I can't see how this can be safe or normal to drive a car that jumps shutters and when you start out moving you can't tell if it's going to nose over and sit or take off my wife is scared to even drive this car any more and all Ford says is this is normal I have talked to some other Focus owners and most of them say the same thing that this transmission is not safe to drive and they all have the same issue.

23 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2014

I first noticed a problem with my transmission the first week I bought my '13 Ford Focus. I would hear a shuddering and gears grinding when I would accelerate and my transmission would slip when shifting gears. I took it to the dealer and asked them to check it out but was told that it was normal and nothing to worry about and sent me on my way without even taking a look under the hood. I informed them I was worried about getting into an accident with it and they said that would be impossible and it was of no concern. On Friday, April 25th, 2014, after driving 40 minutes to work, I started my car up again and turned onto a main city road from a parking lot then onto a residential street. There, I noticed my transmission light had turned on and my car was having a difficult time shifting gears. The rpms skyrocketed and then plummeted. I was going about 20mph-25mph and my dash is reading 4rpms. I then turn onto another main road where my car started chugging along, it felt, while revving multiple times. I had no control over my own vehicle. About a mile or two away, I reached my destination. I parked and then started to drive again where my car then stopped and I had to declare it inoperable. The next day, I had to have the car towed. Come to find out, the transmission problems I complained about to the dealer were not normal and any day my car was going to quit on me. April 25th, 2014 happened to be that day. My car is just outside of the lemon law as I purchased it last January. Ford is hesitant on helping me and getting my car back and running. I was told there was no problem and nothing to worry about, therefore, I did not pursue the problem any further.

26 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2014

Vehicle has bad issues with the transmission shutters lurches and bucks. Ford will only warranty transmission slippage below 30% throttle any slippage above 30% is not covered by any warranty. This is safety hazard when pulling into traffic. And does not make for a very nice to drive car. No other Ford transmission has that poor of standard. Slippage less than 250 rpm [per event] or over 31% throttle is still a broke car but Ford wont fix it.

30 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

When accelerating from a stop and when trying to increase speed, automatic transmission slips and shutters making it difficult to gain speed. This is particularly unsafe when merging into traffic. This is a automatic transmission . . . . . But it feels like I am driving a manual transmission and the clutch is slipping (if anyone has ever had that problem it feels the same) has been to the dealership 2 times and both times I only got temporary relief. I can honestly say that this car is unsellable because of this problem. So I'm stuck because it hasen't been repaired with long lasting results, and selling it is not an option. No one in there right mind would buy this car with what may be a major transmission problem looming.

34 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2013

When I drive it sounds like something is grinding and/or a rattling in the front of the car. It does not always make this noise however when it does it sounds like my transmission is gonna fall out in the middle of the road while I am driving. I can also feel a vibration in my foot peddle. On June 07 2017 they reprogrammed my transmission hoping that would resolve the problem. On another visit December 27th 2013 they lubed some part of the front of my vehicle. Then on March 19th 2014 they did another reprogram advising me this time its more specific for my vehicle. They also gave me a print out on why my car made this noise and advised me it was normal. They have heard the noise all 3 of these times, there were a few other visits where they were unable to hear the noise so they were not sure on how to approach the problem. With the last reprogramming they did so far has helped the noise it is not as often occurring however now my car is jerking, almost like the transmission is slipping. They did advise me I would need to drive 500 miles to ensure the reprogramming has been fixed and I am not at my 500 miles yet.
