2 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2019

The vehicle had a recall done 8 months ago and recently the same problems of the recall such as the gas tank issue and the transmission issues are still a problem n went to Ford n told what happened and they didn't do anything about it but just 2 weeks ago before I took it to Ford on a Friday night I was driving n my car shut off as I was on a busy road cars passing me by my car just shut off and I pushed the car to the side stressed because I didn't have money for a tow truck and I didn't know what was wrong until someone said try putting gas in it and I told them my tank was half and gas monitor said I had 140 miles to go before it's empty but when the gas was put in the car it turned on and the gas monitor showed 0 then it went up to 260 and the other issue is the transmission when I'm driving the car starts to jerk and stalls and when I come to a stop my rpm just goes up as if I'm stepping on the acceleration but when I let go of the brake the rpm drops n the goes sound less as if it's going to turn off then it jerks n drives this is a serious issue a couple of times I almost got hit from the back and while driving this car has turned off or jerks and makes weird noises and I only have 61k mileage on it something has to be wrong.

3 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2016

When accelerating from a complete stop or when the car is running in a low gear, the car will hesitate, shudder, shake, jump violently, stall, grind gears, and/or make other noises at varying levels. Was first noticed when making a turn from a stop sign. At first I thought it was my front driverside tire rubbing the wheel well as that was the type of sound I was hearing. I then started experiencing the shuddering and stalling behaviors. I also began hearing noises that sound like the grinding of gears like may occur when driving a manual transmission and missing the gear. Most issues occur during city street driving. This went from an occasional occurrence to an every time I drive the car situation. This in no way feels normal or sounds normal.

4 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2015

Have been having transmission problems with 2013 Ford Focus. About 6 months after purchase a rattling noise emerged, this developed into a severe grinding which shakes/jerks the entire car. First visit to dealer for service I was told I need to learn to drive the car and everything was within Ford specifications. That said they reprogrammed things and also said there was a minor leak and a part needed to be replaced. This part was back ordered and was told they'd contact me when it was in. After not hearing back took car in for similar problems, again told everything within Ford specifications, reprogrammed again and said no parts needed to be replaced. Grinding progressed to a point where car would lug back and then jerk forward when switching lower gears (feels like it doesn't catch). Took car in for transmission 11/2015, reprogrammed and told clutch needs to be replaced but parts back ordered. Contacted dealer today (4 weeks later) to find parts backordered another 6-8 weeks.

5 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2015

Car makes noise. Car sluggish when I give gasoline. Went to dealer about 5 times before dealer decided I had transmission problem. Dealer told me would only repair transmission. Waited for part. Went back to dealer to say car almost stalled. Was applying brakes at the time on highway. Out of concern for condition car was in, had car on cruise control to limit sudden application of gas or brake. Was on road for about 20 minutes on highway. I worried car would stall and cause accident. Dealer later said machine review of my car says it was drivable. Advised dealer if it almost stalls, it may stall. Dealer said: I will have to wait for part. It has been over 2 months, part not at dealer. Latest is that Ford corporation advised me part was sent 8 days ago. Dealer does not have part. Last 3 days dealer does not call back after I left messages to tell me status of part. Car is unsafe to drive, need to drive long distance, but I do not want to risk it. Waited for part since 12/6/2015. Dangerous highway incident was 1/1/2016.

6 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2015

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. While driving various speeds, usually between 20-30 mph, the vehicle jerked and a loud noise was heard under the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed seals and the shaft needed to be replaced. The repairs were completed, but the issue persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the clutch was replaced twice and there were two software updates. The failures continued. The manufacturer was notified. The VIN was invalid. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

8 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2014

After owning my 2013 Focus se hatch for 20 months I finally bit the bullet, paid off my lease early, turned it in and walked away. The car is now only worth $10,500 (50% of original value) so that tells you all you need to know what the reputation of this car is doing to its value. What a shame because it truely is a great car - except for its terrible transmission. Took it in 3 times over the last 20 months to 2 different Ford dealerships and each time its deemed "normal" or the transmission is "reprogrammed with the latest update" but the shuttering, noise, hesitation, etc continues. The last straw was once again at in intersection while turning left the car hesitated and I was almost t-boned again (second time in 6 months). Complaining to Ford got me "customer satisfaction program 14m01: an extension of the warranty to 7 years. Are you kidding me! so the only way I know how to vote is with my wallet and so after over 20 years of Fords I bought a 2015 Honda accord lx. The cvt transmission in the accord is so smooth it's almost like driving an electric car. I'll take my Honda made in o-h-I-o over the Ford made in mexico any day! good luck and god bless to all the other Ford Focus owners out there. I hope this never gets to the point of a fatality but unfortunately I'm not optimistic.

9 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2014

No reverse on automatic transmission, and loud noises when on drive position.

10 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2014

Was driving with my wife and noticed a loud rattling sound coming from the transmission. I had just had my Focus serviced less than three weeks ago. Seems the longer I drive the worse the transmission gets. Hesitation and slipping followed by loud noises from transmission.

11 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2014

Experiencing shuddering with acceleration from a stop position. My car makes a very loud noise along with vibrations, took my car into the dealership today, they checked the transmission said it was fine, they test drove it and of course since it is intermittent it didn't do it. I was told this is normal due to the fact that the transmission is an automatic but functions like a manual transmission. Soon as I get in the car drive it about 5 miles and it starts doing it. I'm nervous driving it cause it also feels like it's going to die in the middle of acceleration. I feel that safety is compromised by this issue. It shudders the most at about 18-20mph from 0mph. I don't see how this can be normal, it feels so unsafe.

12 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2014

I purchased the car in may it drove fine for 2 weeks. Then the transmission started hesitating, shutter noises, and vibrating. I took it to Ford 2 days later it started all over again. The car has already been repaired before I purchased it. I was not disclosed that information when I purchased it. Now I have a unreliable car, thanks Ford!.

13 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2014

I've had the transmission redone twice one at 58k the problem started at 31k and again at 86k two weeks later the same surging, jolting, loss of power is still happening. Ford motor CO. And dealers are horrible to deal with. Ford motor CO. Won't respond they take messages if you can actually talk to someone. There are thousands of these cars with this transmission which is crap. They need to discontinue use because the fix is not a fix. Someone needs to stop Ford from producing unsafe cars. Any time I drive this care the jolts start after second gear then it doesn' change gears correctly it's sluggish this happens on streets and highways or when slowing down and attempting to speed up it has very little power and I end up wasting a lot of gas so the mpg's aren't correct in rating. Vehicle health report in syn is a joke, it will tell you your breaks are ok and they aren't. It goes through a quart of oil every 6 k miles. Now it's hard to start I jiggle the key and it sometimes starts there's a loud clicking noise and all the lights and electronics flicker then it finally starts. Don't buy any Focus! I've submitted a previous complain not sure if this is even being read. . . I have all my service records. Don't have a scanner if you want to see them. Dealers initially told me several times I'm not "giving it enough gas" even though there was already a recall on the transmission and I had 30k on the care.

14 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2014

Traveling on I-80 in new jersey after slowing/braking due to heavy traffic ahead and slowing to about 40 mph, the vehicle for about three minutes would not accelerate to highway speed of 65 mph. Vehicle was service at Ford dealer requiring the replacement of clutch and software reinstall. Similar incident occurred a year later June 24, 2015 while traveling on I-77. Was driving at about 70 mph and had to slow down due to police action on the right side of the road. After slowing to about 50 mph the vehicle would not accelerate or was very slow to accelerate to highway speed. Scheduled a service check with Ford for July 8, 2015. But the technician "could not verity concern. " note the vehicle was taken to Ford for other transmission issues November 4, 2014 and June 13, 2015: grinding, rumbling noise from transmission area, jumping/stuttering forward when accelerating from stopped position and tendency for transmission to slow vehicle when traveling under 30 mph. Transmission/ software issues. The clutch was replaced for the November service date and only software was installed on the June 13, 2015 service date.

15 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2014

I purchased a Ford Focus VIN #: 1fadp3f26dl135761 on 2-23-2013. Maguire Ford s. Main st. Po box 39 duncannon PA 17020 I first called the dealer about grinding sounds and hesitation when pulling out in low gear when the car had 18,000 miles. Their initial explanation was that the “new Ford ” transmission as acting like a manual and some shudder and noise will be normal. It was obvious to be the car was not “normal” and at 19,459 miles, April 4, 2014, the dealer found faulty clutches and put in a new clutch assembly (bv6z7b546d). It still did not feel right and I took it back April 12,2013. They said it is normal. I asked if they would extend the guarantee beyond the 60,000 miles as I envisioned this as a recurring problem. They did not. Needless to say I was extremely disappointed. In August, 2014 , Ford extended the warranty for seven years or 100,000 miles. ( probably because of so many complaints) I was pleased until the car started acting up again at 38,000 miles . I took it in on 5/27/15 and the dealer confirmed I need clutches replaced again. However, the parts are backlogged and it will take three to four months! I am concerned about the safety factor. The shudder and grinding, I can live with for a while. The hesitation when pulling out into heavy traffic is unacceptable. In addition, a 100,000 warranty with a problem occurring every 20,000 miles means someone will eventually be faced with a huge repair bill, not to mention the diminished value of the car for resale or trade in due to this manufactures defect.

16 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2014

My car shutters and hesitates when pulling off, rpms rev up and gas mi is not as advertised. It also makes noises that I thought were the door locks clicking when car is off, later to be told its the transmission is re-setting? besides that I have had 3 flat tires on the same side of the car, from rivet looking things that I think are falling out of the wheel well (at least 1 did!) this is my 1st new car and I've taken care of it! in fact I got it early 2013, and as of now it only has 15,600 miles on it! the last oil change was due at 16,000miles and I had that done @ November because that date was recommended. Everytime I have mentioned this to Ford they blow me off and say there is no recall, well bs I want, and deserve what I paid for, a new car, not a big headache!.

17 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2013

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving various speeds the vehicle hesitated and made a rattling noise. The vehicle failed to accelerate from a complete stop and erroneously rolled backwards. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who reprogrammed the transmission and informed the contact the vehicle had to learn his different driving habits. The failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The VIN was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000.

18 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2013

I have only had to car for a day. The car makes an awful rattling noise and hesitates when going in and out of traffic. To make matters worse, today I was in a parking lot and when I was in drive I pushed the gas to go forward and the car went in reverse! please recall this car. It's so unsafe and someone is going to get killed. Luckily no one was behind me when this happened. Awful transmission. A danger!.

19 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the vehicle started to jerk, and decelerated intermittently. The vehicle resumed normal operation after a minute. Also, the contact mentioned that the vehicle experienced a clicking noise in the front end of vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 28,676.

20 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

As with over 100 other complaints, the transmission is very unstable. Hesitation and almost dying at a stop or in slow bumper to bumper traffic is a safety hazard. Attempting to merge on highways and attain higher speeds from a stop or slow (10-20 mph). Grinding noise from front end at low speeds. . The hesitation in acceleration and jerking at slow speeds, is a safety hazard and as previously stated almost caused numerous accidents. I had it reprogrammed at one dealer, with no results, and just two days ago, on 1-2-2014, another dealer replaced parts on the transmission and called me and said my car was ready. After leaving the dealer, the car started making a rattling noise every time I would accelerate at just about any speed. Took it back today, 1-3-2014, and had transmission tech ride with me. As soon as we pulled out from dealer onto highway, started making rattling noise and shuttering still happening. . Now dealer has an actuator motor ordered. Who knows if this is a fix or another patch.

21 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2013

Since the Focus was first drove there has been a shutter,a noise coming from what we thin is the transmission. We bought this car in NY and took it to the dealership twice and told us that the car needed to be drive and should stop this at a 1000 mi. Moved to ar took it to the dealership they said it was under recall? that the car needed to be reprogramed concerning drivetrain. Took it back 2 other times was told the car hadn't been driven enough for the program to take effect. Now the automobile has progressively gotten worse . It now shutter, decreases in power, and consider dangerous to drive. Took car in again to dealership. Also contacted Ford corparate customer service ans informed of problem. Customer rep gave me a number for my case and stated my issues will be assessed.

22 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2013

As with over 100 other complaints, the transmission is a complete failure. Hesitation and almost dying at a stop or in slow bumper to bumper traffic is a safety hazard. Attempting to merge on highways and attain higher speeds from a stop or slow (10-20 mph) has almost caused me to wreck several times to due hesitation in acceleration. Grinding noise from front end at low speeds. Rolls back on a hill (automation transmission) almost caused fender benders. The hesitation in acceleration and jerking at slow speeds, is a safety hazard and as previously stated almost caused numerous accidents. I have had the fse inspect the car twice, a software "upgrade" that did no good, and everyone from Ford says it is operating as "normal characteristics". Nothing is normal and someone is going to be seriously injured or die if these problems are not fixed. Dozens of complaints and nothing done.

23 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2013

The car is a brand new 2013 Ford Focus with an automatic transmission. After approximately 450 miles, the car started making a grinding noise in the lower gears - similar to one might hear in a manual transmission if you can't find the gear. In addition, the car stutters/shudders at the start in lower gears. An internet search reveals this is a common problem in the Focus which Ford seems unwilling to adequately address. While the stuttering/shuddering issue can certainly present safety issues, I'm not sure what the transmission problem relates to.

24 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2013

The car makes horrible noises when in low a low speed. It hesitates. It makes horrible crunching noises. It has been to the dealer many times. They always say that they hear it, but that it is not a problem. The vehicle has stopped in the middle of the road. Now, in September 2015, I have received a software update program 15b22 which is extending my warranty. Ford already agreed to extend my warranty in 2013 because of my complaints. However, that documentation does not show up in the Ford oasis system, but mr. Ford's office assures me that if I show them the letter, it will honored. I have all of the back up material from 2013 including phone logs. I believe this is a safety hazard that can only be corrected with replacing the entire transmission at no cost to the customer. I am very afraid the vehicle will stall in the middle of rushing traffic. It has stalled in the middle of the road already. I made mr. Ford's office aware of this, also. I would never pass this car onto my child or a relative, and I will feel guilty when I am able to finally trade it in an buy a new vehicle. The car should not be on the road.

25 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2013

2013 Ford Focus transmission problems include noise, grinding, shuddering, lurching. Dealer claims they are normal but represents safety and financial issue (I'll never be able to sell the car) and I don't want it anymore. This is a dangerous vehicle.

Failure Date: 12/10/2012

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that whenever the front driver and passenger side exterior doors were opened, an unusual noise was heard from the transmission. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer three times for the problem. The technician advised that the transmission was operating as designed. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 564.
