Automatic transmission failed after 76,000 miles. Transmission would occasionally slip every couple of weeks since initial purchase. A few days before transmission failure the vehicle started to jerk and would have intermittent transmission issues. Ultimately the transmission failed while driving and once parked, the vehicle would only start in neutral and the vehicle would not shift to reverse. The vehicle was driven for around 1-2 years and then was maintained in a storage state for 4 years and then was driven for another 1-2 years before the transmission failed at 76,000 miles. These transmissions failing is and reports say that it was a known issue from the start. Transmission issues while driving pose a moderate safety concern and could potentially cause an accident on the road in a traffic condition. Based on numerous complaints about the transmission issues on this vehicle, Ford needs to be held accountable and an official recall needs to be issued for the transmission on the 2013 Ford Focus! the conditions for this recall should be based on meeting one (not both) of the following: less than 7/10 years, or 100,000/150,000 miles.
Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact that when the driver drove when the brake pedal was engaged the vehicle hesittated to accelerate and the transmission it felt as the transmission locked into neutral. However, the driver was able to the drive the vehicle after the transmission failure was experienced. The vehicle was taken and unknown mechanic that advised the catalitic converter failed and the 02 censor was replaced. However, the repair did not correct the faiure. The contact spoke to an unknown dealer that advised the contact that the vehicle warranty had expired and a diangostic was not performed. The manufacurer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 105,000. Li.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. While driving 50 mph, the vehicle jerked, lunged forward, and lost power. The contact managed to gain control of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to morlan-shell Ford (1824 porter wagoner blvd, west plains, mo 65775, (417) 256-3193) where multiple diagnostic tests were performed, which determined that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. The transmission was replaced five times, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided the contact with case number: 96-182145. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.
Since ive purchased my Ford Focus back in 2013 I have taken the car back to Ford dealership on numerous occasions in relation to the faulty transmission and electrical issues. On my 5th attempt my transmission was replaced. This was around the end of 2017 to 2018. On may 2nd 2019 I was driving to work and as soon as I turned on the car the windsheild wipers started to go off and for some reason I could not turn them off. Once I arrived onto my work campus I turned the cornee to park my car. . . When all of a sudden my car flashed an error message on my dash stating the following, " transmission failure repair now". I calmly parked the car and within seconds of turning off the car I see smoke and then flames from the bottom of my engine hood. I quickly exited the car abd the flames got bigger and bigger. The fire department was called and the had to smash the back window due to the flames that had over taken the front of the car. Unfortunetly my car is not a total loss. I was at the end of my contract agreement with Ford and inly having to pay 6400 left on my loan. Ive called their customer service to complain and see what can be done and was told I would get a letter in 2 weeks by their legal council. This has caused me to delay my entry into nursing school since now I have to work to handle the car the new car I just had to buy. I need transportation for work and Ford took that from me. Ive now seeked out a lawyer to see what can be done. With all the times I asked for help and I ended up seeing my car go up in smoke. Im just so thankful I was able to get out iof the car in time. But believe me im still shaken and this has caused me to never buy Ford again.
While driving at city speed in elkin, nc, the transmission fault light came on and the vehicle stopped. Here I am stranded in traffic. Not the safest position to be in. I shut the vehicle down and restarted it in the hopes that this might reboot the fault and solve the problem or at least let me get to a dealership. The transmission fault light was still active but I was able to move only in first gear. The transmission would not shift. I was able to get to the Ford dealership in elkin, nc where they were able to diagnose the problem. The transmission module of this wonderful dps6 transmission had failed. They had a transmission module in stock so a repair was made. I dread every time I have to get into this vehicle. I worry if I am going to get to my destination safely. I worry if I am going to get home safely. Ford is making every delay possible to slow down the legal process.
Bought this car - had less than 2 years and the transmission failed twice. The transmission issues were covered under a recall. Steering assist fault/malfunction was happening. You'd shut the car off and turn it back on and it would fix itself. The steering assist fault come one while my daughter was driving and she could no longer steer the vehicle. Thank god she wasn't involved in a car accident and was close to our house. This seems to be a well-known defect in the Ford cars and Ford is offering no help to fix the issues. They are going to get sued because, sadly, this defect is going to end up killing someone. They are lucky my daughter wasn't hurt. This steering issue should be recalled. Lives are at risk and no one seems to care (especially Ford!). Now Ford wants $2,500 to fix this defect. I don't think so! Ford will not get another red cent from me, ever! their steering defect could have cost my daughter her life! I'm ready for a class action lawsuit. I'm ready to fight! what is it going to take to get this defect recalled? an innocent life, maybe two? what? everyone is put on notice that there is a serious malfunction with this car and I know Ford already knows about it. They've had issues with steering in their other vehicles that have been recalled and they've had 100s+ (if not more) of complaints with this vehicle in particular regarding the steering. Ford turning a blind eye is completely unacceptable!.
While driving on highway at 65-70mph, transmission downshifted from 6th gear to 3rd then to 1st, followed by free spun in neutral. Vehicle was nearly hit by several vehicles due to extreme deceleration during rush hour traffic. Luckily we we are able to get safely off the highway without being injured. Vehicle experience warning indicators for transmission failure, hill start failure, parking assist failure, and service engine soon light. Attempted restart did not clear and warnings and car would no longer shift into any gears. Vehicle was subsequently towed to nearest dealer. The transmission has been repaired/serviced 3 previous times by the dealer.
Transmission failure. Car was stopped in a parking lot and hill assist light came on, warning on info center screen saying hill assist unavailable. When trying to move forward car reved like it was in neutral, info center showing "d". Moved shift lever to park, no change on info screen, reverse and drive no change. Shut off car and car would not start like it was in gear. Placed lever in park and removed foot from brake and car started rolling. Moved car to parking spot with lever in park and info screen showing drive. Only parking brake kept car from moving.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. When the accelerator pedal was depressed at 25 mph, the vehicle failed to respond and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.
"takata recall"my 2013 Ford Focus at 75,000 miles the car (automatic transmission) would shudder when taking off from a stopped position and eventually progressed to rapidly slipping out of acceleration and acting as if the car was in neutral. Ford replaced the clutches under warranty, problem solved. At 150,900 the transmission failed and Ford reported to me that a $900 modulator should fix the problem and maybe the clutch would again need to replaced. My complaint is that this commuter car is a good car with a faulty widely known transmission problem that will probably not be fixed by replacing expensive parts. Ford has stated that it will not help with any of the cost. The dealership that does all the cars maintenance will give 10% off cost. Ford motor company should rectify the faulty transmission problem and provide compensation!.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The vehicle was repaired per a recall for the transmission and the computer was reprogrammed. The vehicle received another recall repair regarding the transmission; however, the contact was unable to remember the recall repair. The contact stated that the transmission failed to shift properly without depressing the accelerator pedal with immense force. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer did not indicate a failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle jerked, lost power, and the clutch shuddered without warning. The vehicle was taken to russ milne Ford (24777 hall rd, macomb, mi 48042, (586) 948-7700) where it was diagnosed that the transmission module failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the extended warranties for the power train had expired. The failure mileage was approximately 119,050.
I was driving home and noticed a slight loss of power to transmission via the gas pedal. The next morning in rush hour traffic on I-20 my transmission failed. I was unable to move my car for several minutes and then it seemed to catch enough for me to pull to the side. I turned my car off and restarted it and was able to make it to work. I drove it to dealership and told them what happened. They called me Monday night to say it was fixed. I picked it up Tuesday after work. I was in rush hour traffic on weds morning and it failed again. This time it would not move at all. I put my flashers on to avoid being struck. I tried several times to get it to start again and go. Finally I was able to get the transmission to engage. I took it back to the dealership and the transmission failed again. I restarted my car and made it to the dealership. They said they fixed it. I don't trust it since they had just "fixed" it before and less than 24 hours later it failed again. I told them when I brought it in the first time it was a safety recall. I tried to recall all I could about when and where. My impression is that the transmission failed in all instances when I had been driving it for at least 20 minutes. I was in rush hour traffic but moving traffic the first time and the second time I was in stopped traffic due to an accident on I-20 and the last time also in moving traffic. Time seems to be the common factor, at least 20 minutes of driving time before it shuts down.
After having the car from new for 3 years and 5 months, the car has been to the dealer for transmission issues and repairs multiple times and with a computer failure for the shifting. The computer failure left us stranded 80 miles from home and with out of state family. It took 4 complaints initially before the dealer finally looked and noticed leaking from the transmission to get the parts to replace the clutches, seals and other parts at 30,000+/- miles. Then the computer failure was at 48,000 miles. I don't trust the car now due to reliability issues with the dct transmission. The transmission computer failure happened while driving down the highway and pulling off to check things out. Complete failure happened once I tried to get going again. Dealer said the computer was under a recall that I was never notified on.
Purchased 2013 Ford Focus 11/8/15 used. 56k miles. Drove two days then shuttering problem with transmission. Brought car to dealer. Dealer will replace clutch. Takes 4-6 weeks for part. I am concerned that this will happen again. The transmission failed while accelerating on to highway. This is a major safety issue.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. While traveling 25 mph, the transmission fell out from under the vehicle which caused the contact to stop immediately. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission mount failed and needed to be re-mounted. The vehicle was currently being repaired. The manufacturer was not aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
I have a 2013 Ford Focus and twice within the last 30 days the transmission has malfunctioned at highway speeds almost causing an accident both times. The clutch will engage which will disconnect the engine from the drive-shaft. You have no power to move forward and the car starts to slow down rapidly. I had to maneuver the car to the far right hand side of the road both times. Once I had stop, the Focus would work in only first and second gear. If you tried to get the car to go into a higher gear the clutch would engage preventing you to move forward. The first time I had the Focus repaired, the dealership stated that it was a defect in the software program and replaced the original with a new software program. Upon picking up my Focus after the first repairs, I asked the Ford service representative, will this fix the problem? he would not tell me the car was fixed, only that the repairs were made to Ford’s specifications. Less than 30 days later while traveling home on the interstate at highway speeds, my Focus’s transmission once again malfunctioned with the clutch engaging causing the car to slow down. Once again I had to pull over to the right side of the road through three lanes of rush hour traffic. The second time the dealer ship repaired the Focus; they stated that they replaced the computer and the software. When I asked for the second time is the car is fixed, they would not say that the car’s transmission will not malfunction again. We I took the car back for the second time the service rep informed me that their dealership had three other Focuses that had transmission failures and had the same repairs that my Ford had the first time. These cars are death traps and Ford should have a total recall on them.
The vehicle was in motion on the highway when the cars transmission failed causing the car to jerk violently while momentarily losing control of the car and running off the road.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled and the instrument panel lights illuminated. The "transmission not in park please select (p)" message appeared; however, the vehicle was already in park. The failure recurred twice. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission module failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000.
The 2013 Ford Focus has an ongoing safety concern regarding the transmission. This is a known problem, as there is a plethora of similar complaints online. The transmission jerks/shutters/jumps/vibrates etc. When shifting, mostly between neutral and gears 1 through 3. This is most prevalent when starting from a stop, or any low speed/coasting situations. This is a huge safety concern which Ford needs to address. I commute in stop and go traffic every day, and I never know when the card is just going to suddenly jerk forward, quickly accelerate, or not accelerate at all. This could easily lead to causing accidents, or not being able to avoid accidents, as I feel like I have little to no control over the car at low speeds. This is a safety concern I have every single day I drive the car - it's not a once-in-a-while incident, it's all the time. Ford should really fix this problem before people have catastrophic failures (if they haven't already) from this transmission failing, causing serious personal and property damage, accidents, and possible death.
My vehicle failed to shift and had erratic lunging as well as loss of propulsion. It spent more than 3 months at the dealer in total and now the same problems are coming back. I have taken it in to be fixed more than 7 times and now will need to take it in again. The problems started around 20k miles and have continued since. The problem nearly caused an accident when the transmission failed to shift and stayed in neutral. Please help.
I have brought the car to the dealership for multiple (4) transmission issues over the past year. The car has 25000 miles on it. The last time was July 17, 2015. When I picked up the car I was told it needed a new clutch but was okay to drive. I was told the clutch was back ordered 4 to 8 weeks but the car was okay to drive in its present state. The car continued to stutter at low speeds but I was told this was normal for this transmission. On July 31st the car began to stutter harshly and then completely stalled out in traffic in the middle of the road. The on board computer indicated a transmission failure. A second Ford dealership said they repaired the transmission but not the clutch that was previously indicated. They also said the car was safe to drive. It is not. It stutters harshly and can't be depended on to merge into traffic safely. As of today, it sits in my driveway waiting for a new clutch. I don't know if it will finally be repaired or if the problem will return. In my opinion this car is not safe and the potential exists for someone to get seriously hurt or even killed. I know of two other owners of these vehicles (focus). Both are having the exact same problem. One of which is having her transmission repaired for the third time today. This is a safety issue.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. While stationary and driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning upon acceleration. In addition, the rear passenger door latch became unlatched and the door opened. Furthermore, the vehicle's transmission failed due to the inability to shift to second gear properly. Bertwolfe Ford in charleston, west virginia was made aware of the series of failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 20,000.
My 2013 Ford Focus has demonstrated jerky shifting, engine sputtering and stalls related to ineffective shifting of the transmission since it was first purchased. However, at approximately 55,000 miles, the transmission was sputtering and stalling excessively. At that time, we were notified of a recall on the transmission. On September 16, 2014, my transmission was "reprogrammed" by a local Ford dealership. Thereafter, the sputtering slowed for a short period and my gas mileage was also reduced. Not long after that, the sputtering and stalling returned. In October 2014, my local Ford dealership replaced the electronic clutch in my Focus. During the week of may 4, 2015, the car failed to accelerate on the highway approximately three times. On the morning, of may 12, 2015, my transmission failed to shift while I was attempting to exit the highway onto a busy, three lane exit ramp. I put on my flashers and tried frantically to get my Focus to shift into gear and move forward. Rather, it started rolling backwards. Next, a mack truck nearly rear-ended my car. My car has been towed to a local Ford dealership, and I have been told that the Ford dealership will evaluate what is wrong with my transmission, but they have not seen any other Ford Focus automobiles in our area demonstrate these symptoms. I see endless blogs with Ford customers who do have this same problem. I believe that a further recall is required regarding the 2013 Ford Focus.
Tl - the contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated while parking the vehicle lunged forward. The contact mentioned after a stop light the vehicle hesitated while pressing the gas to drive. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The diagnosis was transmission failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 8,000. Bt.
At 15,583 miles the transmission was shifting very hard and at random times changing gears. The dealer said the double clutch transmission had failed and I had to wait three weeks for the dealer to replace the transmission. They said they had so many cars ahead of me to just drive the car as the transmission had already failed and if it stranded me, they would tow the car in. Three weeks later the transmission was replaced and the condition was corrected. Now at 26,400 miles, during a very hot day, the car lunged when accelerating and then loss power during an acceleration from a stop. Multiple times the car following behind had to ¿panic stop or would have rear ended my car. After about 40 miles of driving, the ¿check engine light came on. The dealer looked at the car and said they could not work on the car for at least a week but read the error codes and turn off the check engine light. I was instructed to drive the car until next week as it was safe to drive. After experiencing this condition, no one would think this car is safe to drive. Then I was told that after they check out the car, if the transmission has failed again, it would take at least three weeks for them to get a new one and they would not be able to fix it any sooner as they have so many cars ahead of mine that need new transmissions. For the past few days, the ambient temperature has been much lower and the lunging has stopped. However, the transmission either shifts perfect or shifts hard and is again randomly changing gears. The idle is also becoming very rough and after a stop, stays at 1200 rpms and takes about 10 seconds to come down to what is normal about 700 rpm.
While driving my Ford Focus it "stuttered", I. E. While I was pushing on the gas the vehicle stopped responding and jerked as though I had shifted to a lower gear. I have had this happened before, but didn't really pay attention to it until the 15 oct. Incident. I mentioned it to my wife who also just bought a Ford Focus 2013 model and she confirmed her vehicle had the same issue. Several google searches later I found out that NHTSA is investigating these electronic propulsion transmission failures. Please add our two vehicles to this report. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the transmission failed. The vehicle rolled backward while the contact was driving uphill. The vehicle also jerked when shifted from first to second gear and would lose acceleration power when driving in traffic. The vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times for the failure. The dealer test drove the vehicle and was able to duplicate the loss of acceleration power only. The transmission computer was reprogrammed; however the failure was not corrected and the dealer advised the contact that the transmission was operating at normally. The failure mileage was 3,000 and the current mileage was 10,202.
My Ford Focus had a jerky ride from the day I bought it. I mentioned after the test drive that it seemed a bit jerky on shifting and they said it was normal. A week later I told them again and again they said it was normal because of the new design. It got worse to the point that twice when turning out into traffic when I thought I had enough room to enter traffic it seemed to want to stall and I had to steer it back into the turn lane so as not to get hit. The car very often smelled of burnt rubber though at the time I explained it away as being from other cars nearby. In August 2014 I took the car in for a oil change and found out that a seal between the engine and transmission had failed and I had a major oil leak. This was unbelievable for a car with just 35,000 miles and lucky me I was eligible for an extended warranty on those parts from Ford for 100, 000 miles. Ford notified me the next week about the warranty only after the repair. The car drove better for a couple of weeks but then the shudders returned and began to worsen. I was going to take it in and have Ford look at it again but then on 9-14-2014 I was exiting my car and there was an overwhelming odor of burnt rubber coming from the engine. I decided right then I was not going to put up with the defective and possibly dangerous car anymore and I traded it in at loss. I recommend a serious look at this issue. Ford keeps saying these issues are normal for the new design and people are not used to it. I highly disagree. I got rid of it at a loss. That should say it all.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. Whenever the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle hesitated before accelerating. The dealer diagnosed that the transmission failed, needed a new computer chip, and reprogramming. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 37,000.
Tl - the contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, he attempted to pass another vehicle but the transmission failed to respond. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 5 and the current mileage was 22,600. Pm.
