1 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2020

I bought this vehicle late January of 2020, I was aware of transmission problems with this model but was assured that those problems were taken care of. Bought the vehicle and after my first trip longer than 1 hour I got an engine light and later a transmission overheating light. When driving the car at 55 miles per hour the car will act like I was flooring the gas pedal and will not do anything when I tried to increase the speed. The Ford dealership said it would cover the issues at first but now they are saying is not part of their warranty. The clutch needs to be replaced and the car is stuck in third gear. It will only start on the second try. The car has 53k miles and bought at 50k miles at 9k dollars.

2 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2019

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal traveled to the floorboard when it was depressed and the vehicle accelerated roughly. There was a brief delay before the vehicle moved forward. The vehicle also hesitated before shifting into gear. Also, the transmission indicator illuminated. The vehicle was driven to donley Lincoln Ford (1455 coshocton Ave, mt vernon, OH 43050, (740) 392-2222) where it was diagnosed that a control module, seals, and the dual clutch needed to be installed. The vehicle was not repaired; however, the control module and seals were covered under warranty. The other part was not. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that they would not cover the cost of the dual clutches. The failure mileage was 136,000. The VIN was unknown.

3 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. While driving 30 mph, the transmission began to shudder and the vehicle decelerated. The vehicle lost power and hesitated. The contact attempted to depress the accelerator pedal, but the vehicle would not move forward. The vehicle was driven to Ford of san leandro (1111 marina blvd, san leandro, CA 94577) where it was diagnosed that the vehicle needed a new transmission clutch and module. The dealer would not repair the vehicle because it was eight days past the warranty requirement. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was 82,774.

4 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2018

The powershift transmission is defective, as I have had it replaced multiple times in a car with only 50,000 miles. I had my clutch pack replaced for slipping and shuddering twice within a two month/2,000 mile period. Initially the problems went away, but they came back and are worse now. There have been 2 incidences where I was driving and the check engine light came on and the car's screen said to service the transmission; the car would not shift gears so I could not accelerate. Both times I would turn the car off and after sitting for a while (overnight), it would turn back on everything would be normal. The transmission shudder happens when I accelerate from a stop or from a near stop, like in stop and go traffic; the car shakes and acceleration is very uneven. When the car is first started in cold weather, the rpms jump up rapidly when I am accelerating from a stop to the point where the tires slip and spin, regardless of how much I press the gas pedal. Excluding the issue above, the shudder seems to occur more frequently the longer the car is being driven, and the warmer the weather is. When I am driving and I push the gas pedal to accelerate more (like going into a roundabout or merging onto the highway) the rpms rise up very high but the car just coasts and does not accelerate for several seconds. Sometimes when I am at a stop, I will push the gas pedal and the rpms will rise, but the car will not accelerate for a few seconds. The issues are sporactic, as the car will be fine for a few days and then it will be almost undriveable for a few days.

5 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2018

2013 Ford Focus, was bought new from dealership and has had clutch issues from beginning. The car stutters on acceleration, shifts hard, and occasionally there is a delay when the gas pedal is pressed. A recall was performed on this car and the clutch was replaced, but still had same issue. This car has been seen 8 times for this issue, and has never been resolved. The clutch that was replaced during the recall has failed the performance test, but the dealership will not replace due to expired warranty. Recently another recall was issued on this vehicle due to a stuck cannister purge valve. This causes the engine to stall and the fuel meter to read incorrectly. This caused me to run out of gas on the highway when my gas meter reported I still had half a tank of fuel. On 11/29/18, the dealership performed the recall and believing my fuel meter to now be accurate, I ran out of gas again at a quarter tank full. My check engine light is back on and it is again throwing a code for the purge valve. This car has several safety issues which Ford dealer has been unable and unwilling to remedy.

8 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2016

This vehicle has had major problems with the powershift transmission. Over the course of 107000 miles the vehicle has exhibited shudding, lurching and bad shift characteristic and frankly is extremely dangerous. It has had it's clutches cleaned at 37736 miles in oct 2014, replaced at 38396 miles in December 2014, replaced again at 75874 in February 2016 and now in January 2017 at 107,xxx the clutches again need to be replaced. Ford is now longer willing to cover the cost even though the vehicle has consistently had issues. This is a major defect and clearly the parts being used are not up to the task. When the clutching start to fail, the car lurches, shudder on acceleration, shift abnormally and has a delayed acceleration which can lead to very dangerous situations. I was recently rear ended while making a left hand turn because the vehicle would not accelerate when I pushed on the pedal (although it doesn't excuse the driver behind me carelessness).

11 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2016

With an automatic transmission and at slow speeds the engine stalled, and jerked especially in congested highway traffic such as stop and go speeds. After a new clutch was installed by the local Ford dealership, the engine now surges and hesitates at slow speeds and when in the passing mode at highway speeds the engine keeps accelerating even when the gas pedal is released.

12 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2016

At 9:30pm on may 12th 2016 I was driving on I-5 through downtown seattle going approximately 60 miles an hour in the far left lane, when the gas pedal dropped all the way to the floor and I completely lost power. I had to change across 4 lanes of traffic while my vehicle was steadily losing power to exit at mercer st. From there I barely made it to the side of the road on westlake Ave where a tow truck picked me up. Following that experience I have had to take my car to have the clutch/transmission repacked 5 times!!! each time when the clutch is starting to fail, it shudders, shakes and loses power. I am afraid of it losing power in a intersection and being t-boned by another vehicle (this has happened to other owners of these cars). Ford is responsible for fixing this, however they have not taken responsibility and here I and about 4 million other customers are left with lemons! hold Ford accountable for their faulty transmission/clutches from 2011-2016 fiesta/focuses, all I want is a dependable car that will last more than 4 years and 68,000 miles.

17 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2015

I own a 2013 Ford Focus hatchback that has transmission and clutch issues. It's been recalled once and replaced. But still has the same issue. When start to putting gas on the pedal the van stuffers and skips gears until it reaches 3rd gear. This is making it hard to drive and gain speed. It ultimately needs to be replaced again. But Ford won't replace again for another 2500$. It's a known issue that they know of but won't replace more than once. I also can't trade in my vehicle because it's worth 93% less than value. The car has other known recalls that needs to be fixed.

18 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2015

Automated manual 6 speed transmission has been exhibiting clutch shuddering for at least 6 months, dealer ordered new clutches 3 months ago and are still on back order. Saturday may 30th 2015 while pulling away from a stop light making a left turn at approx 5-10 mph the rpm went to around 5000 like the clutch was slipping then started shifting extremely rough and rpm up and down while the gas pedal was held steady at what should have been a low rpm state of no more than 2000-3000 rpm. While at city speeds going up a long hill it seemed like the transmission was stuck in 5th or 6th gear and would not shift even in sport manual mode and bogged down until finally with the gas held down it jerked violently and down shifted. When parking several miles later it would not go into reverse. This was a moderately warm day of about 75 degrees after a 25 mile freeway drive, the engine was not overheating and the oil level was good. The next morning my diagnostic computer (a can obd2) detected the dtc codes p2862 and p2837 and the car is apparently working normally after clearing the codes and driving around the block.

26 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2013

This vehicle shutters, jerks at each stop. It feels like it gets no power when pressing on the gas pedal. Sometimes its light shuttering/jerking, other times its violent shuttering and jerking to the point where it jerks so bad the car shuts off. We have been to the dealer and they keep telling us its a "green clutch" and just keep driving it to get it broken in. We do not see an improvement over after a week of daily driving. We have visited many sites and realize there are alot of people who purchased a 2012,2013 Ford Focus having this same problem.

28 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2013

First started experiences transmission shuddering/hesitation shortly after purchasing the vehicle. Dealer reprogrammed tcm twice. Then, in October 2013, while attempting to get on the highway, the car locked into 1st gear, red-lined the rpm and would not accelerate over 25 mph. Attempts to put the car in neutral or the automatic shift mode were unsuccessful. Entered the freeway going 25 mph and almost got in a very severe accident. Was able to exit the freeway at the next exit where the car was shut off. After starting the car again it was able to shift out of 1st gear. Took it back to the dealer and they told me I needed a new clutch. After the new clutch was replaced the shuddering decreased but the car still hesitated. At about 40k miles, in February 2015, the shuddering/jerking worsened. This time the jerking was so violent that passengers in my car said they did not feel safe driving in it. The car would accelerate extremely slowly, even when pressing the pedal to the floor of the vehicle. Dealer reprogrammed the tcm again. This made the jerking worse. Dealer recorded a shuddering of over 500rpm. I was put on a waiting list for a new clutch (second one). Called Ford customer service where I asked for a rental car while the new clutch was on order (8-12 weeks). They told me the car was "within drive-able specs" despite the severe jerking and lack of acceleration and would not provide me alternate transportation. They also told me the car was "supposed to shudder" and it is a "different kind of transmission" that I "just don't understand. " there have been numerous complaints about this vehicle and Ford can't seem to fix it. Instead of replacing the transmission they tell people that the issues are "normal. " the 2013 Ford Focus needs to be recalled before someone is killed (if they haven't been already).
