Transmission Shudder problems of the 2013 Ford Focus - part 1

There was a previous recall on the transmission shudder issue. This issue was resolved through a complete rebuild of my transmission, but this issue that should no longer even exist, due to new parts is still there. This is not something that should be happening. I think that my car should be replaced due to Ford's ongoing issue. I think they are using either used parts, or they know the parts needed to fix this issues are faulty as well and continue to do this to customers.

Vehicle was in motion on busy highway going 70mph when it abruptly decreased in speed. Rpms moved back and forth until I was able to get off the highway. If I were in the fast lane, it is likely someone would have ran into the back of me. Concerns with shudder relating to transmission control and clutch assembly needed replacing.

Transmission shudders, jerks and feels like its slipping and I'm getting a transmission fault error on my dash, won't shift to next gear unless its above 3500rpm. I bought the car used may 4 2020, it started acting up within the first week I had the vehicle.

The cars transmission will shudder and hesitate from a stopped condition. I have had it repaired 2 times and about to take it in for a 3rd. This has been an ongoing issue with this transmission.

I just had to bring in for service again. Transmission shuddering, slipping, hesitating from a dead stop then lunges. Sometimes will hesitate when trying to pass on freeway.

Daily driver after multiple transmission repairs still shuddering every time, jerky transmission hesitates with lack of power.

Transmission shudders and shifts erratically in low gears. Sometimes unanticipated accelerations from low gears and sometimes transmission shifts into low gears while at higher speeds, causing vehicle to rev up and loose accelerations intermittently.

Very hard shifting through gears when first starting to drive. After car is warmed up and driven for a time. There is a shuddering in the transmission when starting from a stop. The hard shuddering makes it seem like the transmission is going to fail.

Since I drove the vehicle off the lot, transmission shudders, jerks, vibrates, rough up/downshifts, slips into neutral, wont shift into reverse, transmission fault warnings, transmission overheat warnings. The car does not reliably accelerate/decelerate under normal operating conditions. On multiple occasions had to push the car out of a parking spot by hand since reverse would not engage. Had to push off the road several times after violent shifts/shuddering and warning lights. Has happened numerous times since purchasing the vehicle. Initially dealership said over the phone the new technology hadn't adapted to my driving style yet and it would clear up. Eventually I took it in for repair after repair and have since taken the vehicle off the road. The last episode happened with my children in the car and it's no longer safe to transport passengers in.

Transmission clutch shuddering/chattering on acceleration, primarily in 1st and 2nd gear. Worse when ambient temp is warmer. Slams into gear, sometimes breaking tires loose on pavement. Only owned this car for 1 week. Mileage in the 70k range. Especially dangerous pulling out on a turn. Car will jerk sideways and hesitate, leaving you open to being struck by another vehicle.

Dps6 transmission shudder and slipping issue. Vehicle has been serviced under multiple owners and had the clutches replaced as well as the software re-flashed. Ford dealer stated they are aware of the issue told me they would get it fixed under the extended warranty offered by Ford. I was charged for a re-flash I was never called to authorized, that has not fixed the shuddering issue. I was almost in an accident when the card decided to not shift going through a stop light and the vehicle behind me almost rear ended me. I contacted Ford and the service manager stated "you need to drive it more aggressively". Ford opened a case to review the poor service and they have never contacted me again.

The Focus dps6 transmission continuously shudders and stalls when driving, especially when starting out and shifting between 1st and 2nd gear. After all of the incidences I have heard about this transmission, I believe there should be an official recall that allows for repairs or replacement of the transmission.

Transmission shudder then driving on highway low oil light came on randomly happened before took to shop and said the rear main seal went out which caused oil to leak into transmission and making the clutch slip.

Car simply stalls randomly while in motion, streets or highway. Transmission shakes randomly while accelerating mainly while shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, mainly in city streets car apparently goes to neutral great randomly while the stick is in drive position, both city streets and highway.

Car shudders at varying severities--sometimes more mild than others, mostly severe otherwise during accelration, and various moments while driving, and during the entire process of turning. I have brought my vehicle to george wall Ford Lincoln in shrewsbury NJ twice for this specific issue. First time they updated a module and it helped for about a week. Then the problem returned. Second time they had it even longer, and upon pick up I was told that the car was acting 'within spec', and doing 'what it is designed to do,' so no fix was made. Car continues to shudder severely. Transmission is technically manual, despite being an automatic, and the computer does the shifting. That is what I was told. However, if that is the case, then this car drives manual terribly. I contacted Ford customer support chat and was told I do not qualify for buyback because of car's age/mileage. Care is under 50k miles, and I bought the car certified preowned November 2017, just under a year ago. I was not informed of any recalls, or the transmission's behavior upon looking, buying, and paying for the car in full all in one evening. I have just sent a lenghtly letter to Ford customer relationships this week. Awaiting response. May file lemon law if situation is not handled properly. I have been told my car's issue is not safety related so it is not dire, however during inclement weather, or when going through turns, or simply starting my car gently at lights has become an issue, and I have nearly been rear ended many times. Eventually I will not be so lucky as to escape yet another near-accident. Soon, I can only imagine, I will most likely have a car come crashing into my rear end because of failed and shuddering accelration due to the shoddy transmission clutch shudder.

Vehicle engine/transmission shudders and lurches. Often, not being reactive to depression of gas pedal. I have been left in the middle of an intersection multiple times with a car that will not go, but rather shudders and doesn't gain propulsion.

Since the first week of purchase the car has had trans failure. It has been in and out of the shop at least 4-5 times for repairs with no avail. . The transmission shudders, makes loud grinding noises, stalls, loses power then violently jerks when accelerating. Because of this many times I have narrowly missed hitting other cars causing an accident. I drive everyday with fear and anxiety, this car is downright dangerous. To top things off, suddenly, my rear drivers side door will not stay shut,. It appears that the latch is broken even though I rarely if at all open or close this door. There are so many issues with this car. Ford should be ashamed for this atrocity they brought upon their customers.

I took my vehicle in for service at my local Ford dealership due to the transmission shuddering and not accelerating while driving and informed my advisor the transmission is now slipping more often, unexpectedly and more severely and is becoming a real danger while acceleration. This is another instance of several that I have had to have the transmission recalibrated or clutch replaced. During this occasion, I was told the parts needed to be ordered and would be another 6-8 months before the transmission can be serviced and fixed due to having no parts. I don't want to put my 6 month old daughter in danger by driving the car and since the car. When asked for a loaner car until the parts come in I was told Ford could not do that and my only remedy was to wait for the parts to come in. After escalating the issue to Ford leadership through email, my transmission was serviced within the week. However the transmission still shudders and slips upon acceleration.

Horrible transmission shudder / slippage when accelerating from a stop through the first few gear changes. Ongoing issue.

Transmission causes the vehicle to shutter when accelerating from low speeds. The transmission also makes a grinding noise with varying performance in gear shifts and acceleration speed. The issue is intermittent, making the performance of the vehicle difficult to predict . This creates a dangerous situation when accelerating from a stop, e. G. When pulling through an intersection from a stop.

This car has had problems since it was purchased in may of 2015. Transmission makes loud grinding noises, loss of power, stalling, loss of acceleration. I have had it to the dealer multiple times to only be told we've updated the transmission and it should be ok. . . . . Just drive the car, let it get used to my driving and it will be ok. Not true! none of this has helped. The last time it went to the dealer, it had to be towed because it wouldn't start. This is a huge safety hazard and Ford should be held responsible. They should not be allowed to keep sending customers on their way with vehicles that they know are faulty.

Transmission shudders when shifting from 1st to 2nd. It also shudders at higher speeds, sometimes violently. It has been in for service twice in less than a month. The first time they updated the computer and it still shuddered on the way home. The second time Ford reported that the vehicle "has the latest calibration and rpms are within Ford spec at this time. ".

Ford Focus purchased in 2013. Transmission in for repairs total of five times. Two of those five times, vehicle had to be towed back to dealer. First tow: vehicle started shuddering violently while going 70 mph on expressway," transmission fault" light came on, (two children in the car under the age of 9 as well), turned hazards on and coasted off onto a nearby exit and waited for tow truck. Second tow: vehicle stopped, shuddered while exiting expressway, warning system came on "transmission fault: service now". Both times vehicle lost power, could not engage into gear. High traffic area on expressways, luckily was not injured. Non-tow repairs: transmission shudders violently, has difficulty switching out of first or second gears, able to drive vehicle to shop, where it is serviced, but begins to have issues within several months of repairs each times, repeat of the same issues. This is an extremely unreliable and dangerous vehicle that loses power and has issues with the transmission locking up/failing at any given moment, despite multiple repairs and clutch replacements by a certified Ford dealer. This vehicle needs to be seriously reevaluated for safety.

Transmission shudders in excess on take- off, when coming off a stop and jumps out of gear when driving.

Ford taurus. Consumer writes in regards to transmission warranty and issues. Consumer has another vehicle correspondence in artemis. The consumer stated he received a letter for his daughter's vehicle regarding a problem with transmission clutch shudder/transmission input shaft seal. The consumer stated the vehicle did not perform well on hills. After, waiting over 90 days for the parts to arrive, the vehicle was finally fixed. However, two months ago, the problem returned.

Transmission shudders & make a grinding sounds & sometimes jumps forward.

For a number of months the vehicle transmission shudders, lags, and acts intermittently lurching. Very dangerous. When applying gas, one never knows if the vehicle will go forward smoothly, or instead lurch or shudder potentially causing to be rear-ended by someone or hit because the vehicle doesn't accelerate to queue. All accompanied by a loud grinding sound. A piece of junk!.

Transmission shudders upon acceleration, sputters into gears and does not shift smoothly. It also shudders when accelerating at about 20mph.

Been having the transmission shudder for the past few mouths and last week I went to put my seatbelt on and it wouldn't lock . Driver side seatbelt broke on the female end.

The check engine light came on. The transmission shudders and hesitates under acceleration.

Shuddering, jolting, lurching, grinding of the transmission between 1st and 2nd gear. This had been the main issue, I went to Ford 6 times for this and it still has issues. Most recently, my car wouldn't go into 2nd gear and would rev very high and then slams into gear & has a very intense lurch forward. It has done this in intersections and pulling out onto bus highways. I went to the local auto parts store as the check engine light was on. The error code they received was "p0902 clutch actuator circuit low".

My 2013 Ford Focus has a bad transmission shudder that happens mostly when starting out from a dead stop and the transmission is shifting from 1st to 2nd gear . At times it shudders and shakes so bad when starting out the vehicle will actually delay and stop moving momentarily while the transmission is shaking and shuddering. It is very dangerous when this happens while crossing a hwy or trying to go through a busy intersection and the vehicle stops moving and just sits there and shakes for a second or two. The last time this happened it scared my wife so bad she now refuses to drive the vehicle anymore and doesnt really care to ride in it anymore even when I'm driving. Had it to the dealer about 5 or 6 times for this problem and they replaced the clutches in the transmission once and re flashed the computer a number of times and while that did help for a short time after these repairs it always starts shuddering again. Ford says this is normal for the transmission to shudder and shake so if its normal why doesnt it do it all the time and why did the new clutches completely take care of the shudder for about 6 months?? I would like to meet the engineer that designed this transmission and have him tell me this is normal to my face after taking him for a ride in this vehicle.

Upon acceleration, from stop or moving, the vehicle shakes, jerks, and rattles violently. The transmission will grind and will hesitate to engage. Trying to pull out into moving traffic, I was almost in an accident multiple times due to the engine properly "revving up" but the transmission failing to either engage, late to engage, or missing the proper gear. On even slight inclines the vehicle will roll backwards quickly when moving foot from brake to accelerator. Taken to dealership who confirmed failure of clutch and seals but Ford does not have availablity on parts. Multiple dealerships told me this problem is in every 2013 Focus, and reading online confirms thousands upon thousands of people with the same issue. This is clearly a safety issue and I'm now driving a car with a confirmed failure item that cannot be replaced. Dealerships also have told me "this problem will be present forever" or is "not fixable".
