1 Automatic Transmission Internal Clutches/bands problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2023

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the powertrain failed to properly shift gears while driving at approximately 15 mph. The contact stated that the vehicle jerked while abruptly shifting gear. The contact stated that the vehicle veered into the driveway of her residence. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module (tcm) needed to be replaced. The failure recurred on another occasion, and antifreeze was seen leaking from the engine compartment. The vehicle was then towed back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the clutch actuator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 149,000.

2 Automatic Transmission Internal Clutches/bands problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2022

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving from a complete stop, the rpms revved up, but the vehicle hesitated to respond and then lunged forward. The contact was able to continue driving. The contact stated that the failure also occurred while driving in 2nd and 3rd gear. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the automatic transmission dual clutch had failed. The independent mechanic referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed the contact that he had to pay for the repair because Ford service campaign number: 14m02 had expired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 116,458.

3 Automatic Transmission Internal Clutches/bands problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2022

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving 25 mph, the vehicle started shuddering with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the transmission control module (tcm) needed to be replaced; however, the vehicle needed to be taken to an authorized dealer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the clutch needed to be replaced and that the vehicle was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not under recall. The contact advised to contact the NHTSA hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 40,000.

4 Automatic Transmission Internal Clutches/bands problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2012

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that after shifting into drive, the vehicle started to jerk abnormally. The contact stated that after accelerating to 40 mph, the vehicle started to operate normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the clutch needed to be replaced.
