I am writing to file a complaint regarding my 2014 Ford Focus, which is experiencing transmission failures related to the known defective transmission system. Ford acknowledged widespread issues with this transmission in customer satisfaction program 14m02, which extended coverage for the transmission control module (tcm). Unfortunately, my vehicle’s failure occurred 2 months after the program expired in June 2025, and I was informed by my dealer that Ford will no longer cover the repair. This situation is deeply concerning for several reasons: known defect: Ford has long been aware of systemic failures in the transmission. Numerous recalls, service programs, and even class-action settlements confirm that these problems are widespread and not isolated. Safety hazard: transmission hesitation, shuddering, and sudden loss of power create dangerous driving conditions, especially when merging or crossing intersections. Unfair limitation of remedy: the expiration of 14m02 leaves owners like me with expensive repairs for a defect Ford already admitted responsibility for. Ford’s responsibility to address this issue should not end simply because the program expired, particularly when the defect poses ongoing safety risks. I am requesting that Ford: provide goodwill coverage to replace/repair the failed transmission control module (or related components) at no cost to me. Extend support for affected owners beyond the June 2025 expiration, as the defect persists in vehicles on the road today. I have filed or will be filing this complaint with the national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA), the better business bureau auto line, and my state attorney general’s office so that my concerns are documented at the federal and state level. I urge Ford to take responsibility and ensure customer safety by addressing this defective transmission beyond arbitrary deadlines. Kendalyn harris 2014 Ford Focus.
My car has been to the shop twice for the tcm issues, and both times, in 2016 and 2021, the shop performed adaptive learning and cleared the codes, instead of replacing the faulty part. Now, the tcm has completely broken and needs to be replaced. The car wouldn't start at the gas station suddenly. After rocking the car back and forth it did start, but wouldn't go when shifted into drive. It is apparently 2 months out of the extended warranty coverage and now, I have to pay $1,300+ for a repair?! this seems unfair. They knew they had a faulty part, they performed band-aid fixes, and now I am holding the bag.
This car should have been added to two customer service programs through Ford. 19n08 and 19n08. This covers problems with the tcm and clutch pack. After speaking with Ford customer service, they confirmed that my vehicle fell within the build dates outlined in those programs and was built at the michigan facility that is outlined in these programs. They refused to add my VIN to these customer service programs stating that it has expired. Had I known about the customer service programs when I was supposed to know about them, I would have easily had this issue fixed, but now I am left with a car with severe transmission issues. The only thing they could tell me to do was file a complaint with NHTSA. I need help getting Ford to acknowledge and fix this issue.
My car was purchased in 2015 and currently has ~69,000 miles. All routine maintenance has been completed on schedule. The clutch was repaired under warranty around ~10,000 and the transmission control (tcm) was corrected via software update in 2017. The tcm is now failing and requiring replacement. Ford motor company was offering extended warranty to 150,000 miles or 10 years with one free replacement after that milestone was reached. That program apparently expired 6/30/25. Ford lost litigation on this vehicle as they sold the vehicles knowing the defect in the transmission. I am now responsible for an out of pocket repair due the expiration of the program. I contacted Ford customer care Ford customer care case number cxh05090063w2f2h4 and they suggested I file a complaint with the NHTSA.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the vehicle shuddered, and the check engine light illuminated. The contact pulled to the side of the road. Turned off the engine, waited a few minutes and restarted the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle functioned as intended. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while driving 30 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. The check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the actuator b had failed, which caused the tcm (transmission control module) to fail. The contact was told that the actuator b and tcm needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and filed a case. The manufacturer referred contact to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 97,500.
I recently purchased this car from a private seller. Within weeks, the vehicle began exhibiting serious transmission issues — including sudden loss of power, inability to shift correctly, and entering “limp mode”, which severely restricts speed and performance. I had the codes scanned and received p090c and p090c-00, which point to a transmission control module (tcm) or clutch actuator circuit failure — an issue widely known in these vehicles with the dps6 powershift transmission. Ford previously issued a customer satisfaction program (csp 14m01) for this exact tcm failure, but they have since ended the program (as of June 30, 2025), and they are refusing to cover the repair — even though my vehicle is within the affected model year range and has not yet had the tcm replaced. The car has already had the clutch replaced, but the shifting problems and check engine light returned, putting me at risk while driving. This is a known, recurring safety issue, and the manufacturer is not standing behind its repair despite the car being part of a program that previously acknowledged this defect. I’m filing this complaint to urge the NHTSA to reopen its investigation or require Ford to reinstate support for affected owners.
Transmission control module stopped working. The car is significantly below amount of miles when the tcm should stop working.
On June 10th 2025 the engine light came on in my 2014 Ford Focus and I lost transmission function. The car was slipping out of gear, completely losing power and speed between first & second gear and third & fourth gear. I pulled into traffic before realizing the issue and almost got hit by two oncoming vehicles - one locked up their brakes to avoid hitting me, the other swerved into another lane which thankfully was empty. Slowing down was difficult, it was very hard to stop and I lost reverse gear. The overall driving experience was very rough and jerky. Driving 3 miles home I almost got rear ended two times due to loss of power between first & second gear. Driving 6 miles to the Ford dealership I almost got rear ended 1 time & 1 time I could not completely stop until I was halfway into a busy intersection. I had no ability to backup and traffic was completely blocked in one direction until I was able to safely cross the other 3 lanes of the intersection on a red light!! prior to this incident & since I bought the car with 12,000 miles in 2020, it always had rough transitions between gears & sputtering/brief loss of power when accelerating from stopped. I formerly had a 2013 Ford Focus which had these same issues so I figured that’s just how these cars drive with the powershift dual clutch transmission. I had no idea that I should have been extremely concerned about the hard shifts & sputtering. I never received a single customer satisfaction program letter from Ford about the clutch, leaking seals, or tcm warranty extensions and issues. If I had I would have brought my car in for service a long time ago. I am disappointed & dismayed that a recall has not been forced by the NHTSA. Ford has gotten away with putting unsafe vehicles on the road with little to no accountability. I, and dozens of others, could have been killed or severely injured while I was on the road in this unsafe car.
On [xxx], we reported the vehicle to a local dealership that it was running rough, with hesitation at acceleration, then a sudden surge of speed; stalls at low speeds/while idling at stop lights; and unexpected increases in rpms when driving a constant speed. This left my son feeling very unsafe and at risk for accidents. We took the vehicle to the dealership for inspection, suggesting it may be the transmission control module causing issue (for which we've received two notifications about the warranty recall). The dealership said that there was no issue with the tcm and refused to perform the repair. (the dealership said that any repair could not be covered because there was no error code related to the tcm, even though the symptoms were as described in the warranty recall letter. ) the dealership instead replaced the canister purge valve. On [xxx], approximately 2. 5 weeks later, my [xxx] son was driving this vehicle when he got a transmission warning light indicating an urgent repair. He barely got the car home (at midnight) and was unable to put it in reverse to park. We took the car to the dealership for further inspection. The dealership said that the entire clutch assembly needed to be replaced, for $4100. Based on our research on past class action suits and recalls, it seems like the deterioration of the clutch assembly may be directly related to the tcm issues. However, the dealership has said that. . . > there's no error code related to the tcm so they can't say whether it is related > without an error code, the tcm itself can't be replaced, nor can they associate the needed repairs to the tcm > clutch repair was covered but only to 10 years (this vehicle is low mileage, but 11 years old). Consequently, we are expected to bear the burden of the entire $4100 cost ourselves for a known issue that resulted in thousands of recalls and repairs. Furthermore, this issue should've been caught much earlier given the information we've provided. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information.
Transmission is jerking/hesitating between gears. I carried it into the Ford dealership in rockingham, nc thinking it was the tcm which is covered under the extended warranty recall. The dealership says it is the transmission clutch.
I am submitting this complaint because Ford motor company is refusing to honor its customer satisfaction program 14m02, which extends warranty coverage on the transmission control module (tcm) for certain 2012–2016 Ford Focus vehicles. The 14m02 program extends tcm coverage to 10 years or 150,000 miles from the original warranty start date, and according to updates from Ford, offers a on updates from Ford, offers a one-time repair for tcm failure through June 30, 2025, regardless of mileage or vehicle age. My vehicle experienced issues delayed shifting, transmission failure, or loss of which I have been told is caused by the faulty tcm covered under this program. However, both Ford and the dealership have refused the repair, claiming the program does not apply—despite my vehicle falling within the described criteria. I have found the official 14m02 program bulletin online (e. G. , via tsbsearch. Com) and spoken to other owners who have successfully received the repair. I believe Ford is failing to uphold its please investigate Ford’s refusal to honor the tcm extended warranty under program 14m02 and help ensure affected owners receive the repairs they were promised, especially prior to the June 30, 2025 deadline public warranty commitments, potentially putting drivers at risk due to sudden transmission failure. The company’s inconsistent handling of these repairs raises serious concerns about fairness, accountability, and public safety. Ford has failed to properly diagnose the issue and misled me regarding the coverage of the tcm under the 14m02 warranty. Despite having paid for diagnostics and extensive repairs, my vehicle continues to have the same problems, which should be covered by the 14m02 warranty, and Ford refuses to address the underlying tcm issue. This not only causes significant financial hardship but also leaves me with an unsafe and unreliable vehicle.
Transmission unexpected stalling and acceleration while driving. Yes Ford dealer located on 9371 roosevelt blvd phila PA 19114 they refused to fix the issues stating that the tcm 14302 warranty expired although it has been extended to June 30th 2025. As well an an independent dealer who has fixed the clutch and transmission but I am still having transmission issues and warning lamp “service transmission now” and vehicle is still experiencing sudden stalling shuddering and is unsafe to drive. I purchased the vehicle Feb 2024 I started experiencing issues the end of December 2024 I took my vehicle to Ford Jan 9th and fixed the vehicle through and independent shop on 04/14/2025 and after replacing clutch and transmission I am still experiencing transmission issues.
I have two recalls on my Ford Focus 2014. Ford refuses to fix the tcm due to the transmission shifts. I brought my car in with issues dealing with the TSB revolving around the engine wiring harness and told them my car battery died and it couldn't reverse now brought it to get the work done which I thought included them looking at why it could not reverse I paid them over 1,300 dollars to fix this issues and then after I pull off and notice my check engine light is still on I bring it back inside and they hit me with OH the transmission needs a diagnostic after I paid them a substantial amount I want them to give me my money back.

The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.
This tcm issue is a known issue with Ford. They issued recalls on this in 2015 and 2017 and extending the coverage in 2023. Please put this on the recall list as it has affected many people.
I am the owner of a 2014 Ford Focus VIN [xxx] . I have had the car into an authorized Ford dealership numerous times. On the 2nd to last visit the transmission control module was replaced at no cost to me. However, since then the transmission has malfunctioned again. It lurches, loses power and stalls. I took it back to the Ford dealer and was told I needed a new transmission. I blame this on the extended length of time it took the Ford motor company to get the tcm and schedule the replacement. Am I entitled to any compensation or a buyback from Ford? what other steps can be taken to resolve my issue? thank you for your time. The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The service engine soon warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the tcm needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the repair was not covered under the warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure was related to customer satisfaction program 14m02, and technical service bulletin: 16-0129 (power train). The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
This is for a shuttering clutch. I was not put in an unsafe position. The problem was found by the dealer when the car was in having a tcm replaced. There was no warning lamps or any other indication. I was told from the dealer I purchased the car from that it was an automatic but had a clutch and would feel like a manual transmission when it shifts. The dealer told me there was a consumer satisfaction program 19n08 but it had expired and there is nothing they could do. Ford’s customer care told me the same thing. My car is over the 7 years but has 77,200 miles which is way below the 100,000 to qualify for 19n08. This program only ran from 2019-2020 before it expired. A car like mine has low miles and didn’t see the problem until now but is left out of a known problem because of the short program time frame. Now after only owning the car for 6 months I have to pay approximately $2700 to fix this known problem. This program needs to be opened back up or allow every vehicle with this problem to use the program one time without the time restriction.
I believe the defective tcm cause all kinds of havoc on the other systems. And Ford knows they can not fix this issue. Cause car to accelerate an come to a stop in the street! no way safe.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving 20 mph and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle was pulling back and failed to shift into the intended gear. The contact continuously depressed the accelerator pedal until the vehicle responded. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle the following day, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to two independent mechanics, where it was diagnosed that the transmission clutch and the tcm needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, where the tcm was replaced; however, the failure recurred six days later while driving from a complete stop. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 15 mph, the message "transmission overheating - stop vehicle for 5 minutes" was displayed. The contact veered over to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle after 15 minutes; however, the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle, the vehicle failed to restart. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled while the rpm was elevated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road on one occasion, and the vehicle was pushed to the side of the road on the other occasions. The vehicle was restarted after an extended time. An unknown warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the canister purge valve and the tcm had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the canister purge valve replacement was covered under Ford campaign number: 24n07, and a repair fee would be charged for the tcm replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the tcm failure to NHTSA campaign number: 13v523000 (power train); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
My son had the car and it had to sit waiting on a part for 2 years. It almost caused him to wreck on severals occasions. In the meantime transmission shop check and didn't agree with the dealer. Finally the dealer replaced the tcm transmission control module. I ending buying the car to help my son. Less than 10,000 miles car began doing samething. In the meantime I received a letter from the factory extending the warranty. I had take to shop and samething was the transmission control module. It was causing the clutch and actuators. The shops said it a dealer issue and explained the letter and customer agreement to me. They said the dealer has ro fix for free. I called the dealer amd they diagnosed it over the phone and refused to fix without 4,700 hundred dollars. I still waited until appointment time over a month had it towed there was driven on to rollback. Was not told of a diagnostic fee. They later called me saying the drove and put on the computer and wasnt the tcm. Also told me ut was gonna be 6,500 dollars. This car has anost caused 4 collisions one of which scared me so bad amd having a brain injury I arrived it home a few minutes away and had a severe brain issues. The dealer on drove the car one tenth of a mile from the shop to a storage lot. They have repeatedly refused to give me the diagnostic print out but instead just an estimate. This is a well know issue with these transmissions to the point Ford extended the warranty. I had to pay a fee and car was taken to a local garge where it remains. Car was driven on the rollback for travel tested at shop. Once again is tcm which is covered as many times a needed upto 150,000 miles. Once over 150,000 miles one more complementary tcm replacement. Dealer still refuses to fix according to Ford customer agreement also refused to just give me the tcm to have replaced. Factory complaint went no where. Any help wpuld be appreciated. Thank you, james culpepper 423-298-6895 leadk9@gmail. Com.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving at approximately 10 mph as she depressed the accelerator pedal the vehicle would shudder as it was shifting to 2nd gear. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but was now a recurring failure. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the tcm and the transmission clutches needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 100,000.
Car jerking and started to not move forward when step on gas pedal then had to pull over and stop car. Was on local road. Brought car to dealer and they found it was due to tcm mail notice saying this car year / model needs replacement, but they have ordered parts 6 months ago and none has been received nor do they know when they will receive. This would be covered by Ford. Dealer also said clutch needs to be fixed, around $5,000, which dealer will not pay, we will need to pay. Dealer did not provide paperwork. My car is only 9 years old, 30,000 miles, and dealer warned us not to drive car till the 2 problems are fixed because they are unsure when car is going to suddenly be volatile and cause major unknown problems.
There is a recall on this car for tcm transmission module. This part is available through non-dealer car repair shops, however, Ford has been unable or unwilling to provide this part for recall for over 1 year, saying that it is back ordered with no date of arrival estimated. I received my recall letter in August of 2023. I was in dealer and had this part tested on September 18th, confirming the recall applied to it. The dealer had my car for one month before returning it to me still broken. Today they still have no estimate on when they will fix this. This issue causes my car to lose power and shudder and the engine light comes on when starting off from being stopped, or sometimes just suddenly act like it has gone into neutral on the freeway. Ford apparently only has to replace this on vehicles with less than 150,000 miles that are under 10 years of age. My car is a 2014, so in one month it will be 10 years old, and only a few months after that it will reach 150,000 miles. It seems like Ford is trying to wait out this recall so they do not have to pay for the repair. It is unreasonable that there are obviously suppliers for this part but Ford is not willing to contract with them and make the repair, meanwhile those of us who spent tens of thousands of dollars on Ford vehicles have to take our lives in our hands every day just to drive the garbage they wont fix. Please make Ford do more to help those affected by this recall and please don't allow corporations to time out their responsibility to fix the low quality garbage they produce. I have received no indication that Ford will ever fix my car. Ford motor company said they have a loner program that goes through the dealer, but the dealer says they know nothing about any such program. It's a lot of games being played and very few cars being fixed. Thank you.
As I am not 100% sure where the problem comes from. And I know that this car and other Ford vehicles are infamous for these issues. My Ford Focus’s transmission will spontaneously without warning completely shut off while driving which has caused me to almost get into crashes multiple times. I have brought my car to a Ford dealership to get inspected in hopes of being included in a program which makes Ford pay for a rental car while the part that causes the issues is delivered (there is large back order on the tcm) but when my car was done being diagnosed they claim my clutch needs to be replaced for 3200 which is ridiculous first of all but the main problem with this is that the broken tcm is what is causing the clutch to break creating a never ending cycle of replacements I have to pay for and even if I get a clutch replacement it won’t fix my overheating issue. These problems that are caused by Ford have caused me to almost get into mulitple crashes and is restricting me from getting to work and I am getting no help from Ford customer service and the individual dealerships try and scam me any chance I get so this is my last resort at getting any help.
The transmission has completely failed multiple times causing us to have to push the car out of lanes of traffic because the car would not move forwards or backwards. The transmission would slip during acceleration even after clutch cleaning and fluid flush. There were no warnings, lamps, or messages. Its very clear that there is an issue with these cars as everyone appears to have the same tcm issues.
This car has had the clutch fork, clutch and tcm replaced since ive owned it and continues to still produce the same scary issue erratically. When it's not throwing codes it's sticking in gears, shifting hard, accelerating on its own (( almost went through a drive through window when it did this last)) this car is going to cause an issue/wreck. I will be driving yhis car and the Focus looses power, no steering, no acceleration available during the main issue im addressing today. It will flash the engine light and the cluster will continue to flash for about 30 seconds and you have no choice but to stop or pull over. What's fascinating and scary each time , it throws different codes. Anywhere from one code to up to 13 codes. I now carry a code reader in my glove box. Took me one hour and 17 minutes to get 8 blocks home in a very small, non traffic, town four or five days ago. Sometimes you can clear the code(s) and be on your way right away until the next dreaded failure. Or sometimes as soon as you turn the car back on it goes right back into loss of power and throwing codes. Nothing particular sets this off, not heat or cold temperatures. Not running the heater or a/c. Not driving fast, slow or in-between. Not turning or driving straight. Not driving short distances or long distances. Nothing is the same to produce this issue. This was tested by not only myself, husband and two mechanics. Ofcouse each time the codes say something different, tcm, clutch, clutch forks, gas, you name it the code was thrown ,ect. Even after the money pit of fixing the supposed issue(s) we still continue to have the exact same very frightening experience. Ford should eliminate these cars, crush them so nobody else falls victim to these failing known issues they've produced.
My transmission shutters in traffic and Ford dealership said they replaced the transmission control module . When I got the car back it was doing the same thing. Now they say it is undser recall . That it has been fixed.
My daughter purchased a 2014 Ford Focus in August of 2021 with roughly 35,000 miles. She was starting college as a full time student and needed a dependable vehicle. . . . . Which she did not get. Zeck Ford in itasca, TX is where this was purchased and they knew of the issue regarding the tcm in this particular vehicle. This vehicle should have never been on that lot for sale. Ford recently closed this dealership in Feb/March 2023. The car did great till about spring/summer of 2022. It suddenly started jerking and check engine light would come on. It appeared it was possibly a loose cable. . . It was not. It drove fine till oct of 2022 and again did the same thing. Contacted local dealership and we were then told of the issue with the tcm. We were also told all we could do was wait untill it acted up again bring it in to the dealership so that they could open a ticket. Well it never acted up in proximity to a dealership. It happened again in Dec of 2022. This time with the rmps revving up so far the vehicle would not drive and she had to have it towed paying out of her pocket. Today, April 3, 2023 she was on her way to school and it stalled on her twice going down the interstate. My husband and I had to go get her and he somehow managed to get it back to our house. She did purchase an extended warranty but they helps none in this situation . At this point we were at a loss of what to do. The dealership that has been trying to help us has informed us numerous times that they have not received the tcm part in their dealership in 2 years!!!!! they currently have 2 identical vehicles like my daughters on their lot that do not drive due to this issue and have been sitting there for almost a year. I have reached out to Ford to no avail. Ford and all Ford dealerships knew of this issue in Feb 2017 but continued selling this vehicle.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving at slow speeds, the transmission overheated and failed to allow the vehicle to accelerate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed and produced code: p0805 p0809. The contact was informed of manufacturer recall number: 19n08 (pcm). The vehicle was repaired; however, after the vehicle was retrieved, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired a third time. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was advised to take the vehicle to a different dealer, but no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.
