For at least the last three years the vehicle experienced short periods of non-starting. In October, 2019 the car would not start period. Previous it was able to start after moving the shifter from park to drive and back and sometime using the remote start. The October issue required towing to north county Ford in vista, CA. After five days, it was determined the transmission had failed and needed repalcement. After replacement the non-starting issue resolved, but in the last three weeks it has returned. I have not had any issues while the vehicle is moving.
Power steering failed while driving. Nearly caused an accident. Lucky there were no others on the road. Ford dealership said rack and pinion needed replacing. 2 weeks later the transmission completely failed. Had already been re-programmed as part of the 14m02 program. This didn't fix the juddering and poor gear performance. Dealer says transmission is broken and none of the customer programs apply.
On my way to work I was taking a left turn onto the highway. In doing so, the car cut power causing the cars behind me to almost hit the back of the car at about 40 miles and hour. This is a very unsafe vehicle, I am waiting for the day someone isn't paying attention when the transmission fails to perform in a usual manor and I, or someone else in the car, is seriously injured.
I have had multiple incidents with my 2014 Ford Focus related to the faulty transmission. Besides rough shifting and lots of shuddering over the years, my car has completely stalled on me while in motion, driving on the highway 2 different times. I lost the ability to accelerate while going more than 65 miles per hour, and I had to coast through high-speed traffic to get to the shoulder (both times). The first time this happened was July 29th, 2017 in fort lauderdale, florida. The 2nd time was June 6th, 2019 on the sawgrass expressway in broward county, florida. Both times were very scary and put myself and others at risk for a serious and dangerous accident. Early on, the Ford dealership told me that the rough transmission is normal and would get better if I improved my driving habits. More recently I have been told that the transmission would fail again but that the warranty has been extended.

Transmission has had serveral computer updates and clutch replacements for shuddering when accelerating. While towing behind a motor home with transmission in tow mode the transmission somehow went from neutral to drive and caused the transmission to fail to the extent of total rebuild at the dealer. After the rebuild it still shudders and hesitates when accelerating in drive.
While driving down the highway, the check engine light came on unexpectedly. Shortly thereafter, the car went into limp mode and I lost all power to the wheels. When I tried to accelerate, the engine would rev but would not accelerate. I was forced to pull over on the highway as a result of this transmission failure.

Shifting issues with the 6speed automatic transmission. Car shifting is erratic when starting from a stop, or traveling in a highway condition. Car revs, shutters and stutters. It is very unsafe. I contacted dealership and was told they know about it, but I cannot get my car serviced until 6 months from now. It seems that this issue is getting worse, and while I wait to address issue, I fear that more damage is happening to my vehicle. I may impact more parts on my new car that will cost me money, or worse it will result in a transmission failure which will leave me stranded where I am concerned for my safety, or the safety of a family member. This has been ongoing and increasing since August 2015.

Our Ford Focus has numerous transmission clutch burnouts (7) and transmission computer failures (3). We have been on the m14 when it fails to accelerate while merging. We have been at the a stop light and it try to lurch forward when we were stopped. Every 6-9 months we need to have the transmission serviced at our local dealer. The car shutters upon acceleration, if it accelerates at all. It lurches and shutters, consistently every 6-9 months. We reached out to Ford, directly, in July of 2017, and received no support, no help and no acknowledgement that maybe, just maybe we had a bad car. We've been told, consistently, every time they replace the burnt out transmission clutch and reprogram the transmission module that "this is the fix. They have the "bugs" worked out this time". I have copies of most of the repairs and the correspondence with Ford global customer service from July of 2017.
I rented a Ford Focus flex fuel 2014 from alamo car rental from ogg airport in maui. The car transmission failed all a sudden during acceleration from rest with a warning from the lcd display that there is a transmission problem and service is required immediately message. During this time, the transmission does not respond and the would easily roll back if on an inclined slope or sudden stop in the middle of a highway, which could cause serious rear collision. The bad thing is that alamo and Ford know about this and they still rent out this model of the vehicle! sorry I feel not providing my personal information for privacy purposes. I provided the alamo car rental address. Best rest assured that the Ford Focus flex fuel 2014 is defective with its transmission and is extremely dangerous!.
Within the first 10,000 miles of ownership the transmission in our 2014 Ford Focus has been rebuilt and the clutch has been rebuilt/fixed as well as multiple software updates applied, and we have complained every time we take the car in for service that the transmission is still broken. It shudders, jerks, rumbles, hard shifts and even comes close to stalling with no acceleration/movement at times. I fear driving it that I cannot take off from a stop safely without the transmission failing and I will end up being hit by another vehicle as a result. This transmission is dangerous and will result in accidents. Worst transmission I have ever owned and Ford will not fix nor buy us out of the car. . . Its a lemon!.
Since new, this car surges, jumps, and stalls for several seconds when starting from stop. It does not do it all the time but occasionally. This is especially dangerous when entering fast moving highway traffic. The car has stalled several times in the last 3 years almost causing an accident when entering fast moving traffic from a stopped position. I believe several models of the 2014 Fords have this problem. It definitely has a transmission problem but I believe there may also be a fuel problem, perhaps the fuel pump. It is just a matter of time before this problem kills someone. Can't we require Ford to fix this problem? I have had this car in two different dealerships trying to get it fixed on several occasions. One Ford employee told me that Ford would only fix the transmission if it is making a loud grinding metallic sound. I had the car tested at one dealership and they said the transmission failed their test and they would repair it. I left the car with them for several days and when I came to pick it up they said it had passed their test this time and they would not repair the transmission. The employee that had told me they would fix my car was no longer with them. I am not sure of the exact dates when the car stalled almost causing an accident so I will give you my best estimate on your form. As an individual, I obviously have no power to require Ford to do what is right and fix my car. You are the only entity with this power. Won't you please require Ford motor company to fix this problem before someone is killed? thank you for your assistance. Jim h. Mecom.
