The transmission in this vehicle shutters, slips, loses power or loses acceleration when accelerating from a dead stop, or accelerating in speed when shifting gears. This happens from a dead stop, when accelerating in traffic to merge, change lanes or pass a car; pretty much anytime the gas pedal is pressed the car will lurch and/or shudder and/or lose power, resulting in many near misses and almost accidents in the time that we have owned the car. This car was purchased used mid-2015. By November 2015 the first replacement of the clutches was done. In March of 2018, just a few months out of the two-year warranty, the clutches needed replacing again. It was too expensive for us, so we opted to have the software flashed instead. Under the extended parts coverage offered by Ford, the clutches were replaced for a second time in December of 2019. By January 2021 the car needed new clutches for the third time. The dealership contacted Ford to see if they could do anything about it, and Ford refuses because the car and the clutches are slightly out of warranty, the clutches only out by a month, even though this six-year-old car is on its third set of clutches.

Tcm replaced 66,550, clutch pack replaced 68,148, and complete communication failure between the throttle and transmission, tonight at 82,000 miles, I fully opened the throttle pedal down, and transmission failed to give me any acceleration for 3-5 seconds. This almost caused a bad situation tonight. Radiator replaced at 77,600, coolant still drops to the min- line. No reasoning on where the coolant is going.

When I press the gas pedal from 1-45 mph the car hesitates to go and then jerks forward. I took it into the Ford dealer who stated it was a bad clutch and they replaced the clutch. A month later the same problem occurred again so I took it back to the dealer who say the transmission was leaking which ruined the clutch and it had to be replaced again. Within 2 months I had to buy 2 clutches and pay to fix the transmission.
Dps6 transmission is unreliable and vehicle is unsafe to drive due to inconsistent vehicle response when pushing accelerator pedal and Ford cannot correct the recurring problem. The problems have occurred many times since we took delivery of the new vehicle in Feb, 2014. Vehicle has been to dealership 9 times for shuttering/shaking, no response when pushing accelerator pedal, surging forward several seconds after pushing accelerator pedal following no response, hesitation when pushing accelerator pedal. Ford has replaced the clutch 4 times in the past 5 years and the problems randomly persist. The vehicle is at dealership now for most recent clutch replacement. Ford has updated the tcm/pcm at least 4 times and the same problems still recur. After the updates to the tcm/pcm and/or clutch replacements we've continually been told that the road tests are within Ford specifications but the problems continue. In the most recent occurrence on 7/1/19, my daughter was turning left onto a busy road with cars traveling at 50 mph; her Focus started into the oncoming traffic lane then hesitated while the accelerator pedal was pressed and the vehicle would not respond. The car coming toward her had to slam on his brakes to avoid t-bone collision. Her Focus finally responded and she was able to complete the turn, but she came close to being seriously injured or killed. Upon hearing this situation, I immediately called the Ford dealership to bring the car in. In June, 2018, at a stop light the Focus would not respond when pressing the accelerator pedal, then after several seconds it lunged forward and almost hit the car in front of her. I bought this car new for my daughter. After reading the 7/12/19 detroit free press article, it's clear this is a flawed design. My daughter will never drive this vehicle again. It's a ticking bomb. It needs to be recalled.

Car stops accelerating at roughly 25 mph despite continuous pressure on gas pedal. Only to get the car moving again was to bring the car to a complete stop and then press gas pedal again only to have the problem repeat. The clutch system on this care and the related software was replaced 6 weeks ago. This is a absolute safety hazard. Please help as this is a widely known issue and the manufacturer is unwilling to respond to the matter. The repair cost for new clutch is $1,000 + each time.

I bought the car in Feb 27 2015. The car would shutter climbing hills and on take off. We took it to the service dept. And we were told there was nothing wrong 2 times. Finally on 09/2015 they did a software update and was told it was fixed. The problem started up again took it back in 11/15 and they replaced the clutch assembly. The problem came back again 5/2016 they did another software update. The problem persisted so they installed updated clutches and software update. The problem came back again on 12/2016 wheel speed sensor failed , they replaced the sensor and once again was told the problem was fixed. It is now 01/2016 and once again the problem is back. Took it to the service department again . The servcie tech that test drove the car with me told me yep it is shuttering again and told me to stop on the side of the road and come to a complete stop then press the gas pedal to the floor until it hits 4th gear then let up and repeat it one more time and that would clean the dust off the clutches. So one again I have an appointment to have this transmission serviced again. We have contacted Ford numerous times and the first time they were more than willing to try to fix the problem . Now when we contact them we are treated like we are making this up. We called them a week ago and a woman by the name of jennifer favata at 866-631-3788 ext 7734 was supposed to contact me within 24 hours. I still have not talked to her and I called numerous times ad left messages. Instead someone else contacted us and proceeded to tell us the shuttering was normal. When I told them this was not normal and has almost caused at least 2 accidents and I was ready to get a lawyer I was told if I got a lawyer my case would be closed.

Transmission has issues w/the clutch. Has been taken 2 the dealer now 4x's since purchase in Jan. '15. Has a constant shudder/jerk when taking off from a stop; daughter has never driven a stick so she is not familiar & says she feels like car is about to die. Every time we take to dealer all they say is "all we can do is reprogram the transmission"; car is getting worse. She basically has to slam on gas pedal sometimes to get it to go. Car is dangerous, and is in a stationary motion when this is happening.

The transmission on this vehicle is terrible. I have taken the car in for the recall on the clutch assembly but that has not helped the issue. There is major hesitation when first apply the gas pedal at take off and it cause the car to "jump" or hesitate. This as almost caused accidents on may occasions and you have to be really careful when pulling into the flow of traffic. I feel that it is a real safety issue and I am not sure what the fix is since they have repaired it once already. It doesn't happen on a highway, it only happens when taking off from a stopped position. This has been an on going issue since I purchased the vehicle. It is the last Ford product I will ever own, bad design.
When I first got the car, I noticed, slight jerking and shuddering. I complained to the dealer, and was told it was "learning". It progressively got worse, and would shudder upon hitting the gas after leaving stop lights/signs instead of moving, until it finally got into gear. It would randomly lurch forward, white in traffic if you hit the gas after you were slowing down or stopped. Etc. I contacted the dealer again, and they flashed the module. It stopped for a while, then started getting worse. I contacted the dealer, and they replaced the clutch pack. It would get better, then start happening. I was then told by the dealer, and Ford, this is normal. It's just how the transmission is. While coming off of an exit, I hit the gas and the car pulled onto the road, then just wouldn't move. I pushed the pedal all the way to the floor and it started shuddering, and finally got in gear and lurched forward. I contacting the dealer again, explaining how unsafe the car was with it stopping and shuddering before it will go, or just randomly lurching forward in traffic. The dealer flashed the computer 4 times, and replaced the clutch pack 3 times. It always gets better, then starts happening again. I finally traded the car in. It's very unsafe when you don't know if your car will just stop and shudder while pulling into traffic, or if it will lurch forward when you touch the gas. I've been told there are several complaints about it. Ford now even offers a rebate if you trade in a car with that transmission, but you have to purchase a Ford to get the rebate. They also still manufacture their cars with a known issue.
We were sitting at a stop light on a slight incline (no more than a driveway). When the light turned green, I took my foot off of the brake and the car started rolling backward. I applied normal gas pedal and it still rolled back. I gave it more throttle for a second and the transmission finally caught. Fortunately, we avoided rolling into the car behind us. The car probably rolled back three or four feet before engaging. Since the car was purchased new, it shudders when leaving a stop, and has a grinding noise in the front when going uphill and turning to the left. In other words, it has the same issues as all of the other complaints people have posted online. When we bought the car, we were told that after a 1,000 or so miles of driving, the transmission would "learn" our driving habits and be smooth. . . . . . . . . . Right. When I talked to the local Ford dealer's service dept. , I was told these are just characteristics of these transmissions. If these are properties of a normal Ford dual-clutch transmission, they should be ashamed.

When I test drive I felt that car feels different. The transmission was a bit different. The sales person told me that it's normal, and car learning me. In my in next half year I start to experience rough, harsh shifting, jerking, grinding noise, vibrations, shuddering upon taking off and stopping. Also car was rolling back when driving up hill. I took I took my car to dealership for repairs. They replace clutch and reprogram my tcm module. Few months later after repair car start to have similar problem like the previous time plus rough shifting on 1st and 2nd gear, grinding noise. My biggest fear was to rear end car in front on me or get intro accident because car was rolling forward even if you press brake pedal. I took my car second time to the dealership. They kept my car for two days, and they said that that it's normal and they only reprogram tcm. Sure thing even after that I didn't see any improvement. Car still rolling back hill and have same issues. So I called Ford customer center. After two days talking with them on the phone and explaining that my car its not safe to be used on the street, and put my life and other people in danger. I newer signed up for that. Ford rep told me that they cant help me and this is the way transmission work. So pretty much I am stuck with pour engineered transmission and a car that its dangerous on the road.
