1 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2021

Starting in October of 2020, exactly one year after purchasing my 2014 Ford Focus from the Ford dealership, my car started to vibrate occasionally. Although I was concerned, I did not worry too much about it because it only did it once in a while. February of this year, the vibrations kept getting worse. Now instead of every once in a while, it would happen every-time I accelerated after a right hand turn. This was more noticeable when there was more people in the car. After doing some research I found out that what I was experiencing was a shudder. Even though it is common for these cars, it is not something I want to drive with everyday, that being said, I called my local Ford dealership, ray price Ford in mount pocono, PA asking if they can fix my clutch being that it's under warranty. They stated that was I was describing sounded like the clutch shudder and they can take care of it no problem. Ford told me that there is nothing wrong with my car. They stated that they test drove it and they tested my clutches and it passed the safety test. I told them to test drive it again, it is not safe, and being that I have a 2014, it is only a couple of months until my car goes out of warranty. I'd rather take care of the problem now before it becomes an expensive repair that is difficult to fix and it's out of warranty. Anne hathaway that works there reassured me that my car is not and they would not be fixing it because there is nothing wrong, she stated the Ford mechanics may just be used to cars like that so there's nothing they can do. It seems to me as if they are trying to have me wait until I'm out of warranty and then I have to pay thousands to fix the transmission and the clutches, that is not a solid solution for me. I would like for Ford to either have a lifetime warranty for the clutches/transmission or simply take all these cars off the road.

2 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2020

While driving the car start shudders and the rev went up; the transmission stopped working and show a error message. Went to the dealer and found that my car was out of warranty. When that happened I almost cause a crash.

3 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2020

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 18v735000 (fuel system, gasoline). The vehicle was taken to downtown Ford sales (525 n 16th st, sacramento, CA 95811, (916)299-3529), where the vehicle was inspected. The contact stated that months later while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle shuddered while the accelerator was depressed without warning. The same dealer was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle had a salvage title and the dealer would be unable to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the clutch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 67,700.

4 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2019

Vehicle loses power to the point of almost stalling out, and then surges forward, spinning the back tires. This happened on a hill, and I was almost hit by the car behind me! the rpm's rev way up and the engine won't shift. The car shudders and jerks and won't get going upon take off. This happened several times at an intersection/stop light, and I am afraid I am going to be rear ended. The car will not get going when it's supposed to.

5 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2019

When pulling off from a stop the car shudders and shakes. There is zero power behind it when pulling out no matter a flat road or hill. When going up hill the car struggles greatly. When you add passengers to the equation it gets incredibly worse. When there are passengers in the car when taking off from a stop the car shakes bad and has no power. It takes a long period to get to even 20 mph which means getting onto a highway is extremely dangerous. I am terrified to have my children in this car.

6 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2019

From a dead stop car shudders, between gears will slip then pull. Not really accelerating. Clutch will slip, then jerk when it catches. This is prevalent in lower gears.

7 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2019

Received a notice for a clutch repair, bringing in on Friday. Car still shudders at slow speeds, and jerks into gear. When backing up on incline driveway, car rolls back.

8 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2019

Vehicle shudder while accelerating from stop. 1st to 2nd gear. Preexisting condition from manufacturer.

9 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2019

The car has been stalling, jerking, jumping and skipping every time I accelerate. I have taken the car to the dealers more than 4 or 5 times since I bought it in 2014! they told me those cars will do that. Wrong! I have all the paperwork of how many times I have taking it for the same thing. The car continues to shudders at slow speeds, and jerks into gear. When backing up on incline street/driveway, rolls back. When accelerating in a highway is dangerous as the car does not respond and making it a safety hazard when shifting lanes, entering on intersections or highway. The problem continues after taking if to the dealer many times.

10 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2019

The vehicle will shudder while driving (city and highway), hesitate significantly when accelerating, has died in the roadway, has been in gear but would not accelerate, and jumps in and out of gear while traveling down the road. I took it to the dealer and they advised that both clutch actuators are defective. This is not in relation to any prior recalls. Was advised this is also a major issue that the dealer service department sees. This began happening several months ago and they want an outrageous amount to fix it. Major safety issue because people do not want to pay the high fee so these cars are staying on the road.

11 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2019

Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle violently vibrated. The contact also mentioned that the vehicle vibrated when started. The contact mentioned that coolant was discovered leaking from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to lindsay Ford 11250 veirs mill rd, wheaton, MD 20902 (888) 457-7005 where the water pump was replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The contact is currently taking the vehicle back to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 59,000. Dr.

12 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2019

My vehicle has at multiple times lost acceleration power at high way speeds and had a transmission warning flash on, causing myself to have to stop on the interstate and attempt to coast to the shoulder amid highway speed vehicles. I have also lost acceleration power going uphill, and my vehicle shudders at acceleration which makes it hard to merge on and off the highway or to turn at intersections, as I can't get guarantee my car won't hesitate and cause a collision, my car also sometimes accelerated forward in stopped traffic, so I always am super wary in stop go traffic. All of these problems typically occur when I am attempting to accelerate or decelerate. Multiple transmission repairs with same issue. Still happening to date.

13 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2019

Once the transmission has warmed up (generally about 10 minutes of driving) the car begins to jerk, the transmission slips, fails to shift during acceleration and makes the entire car shudder. When stopping on hills this can result of the car suddenly rolling backwards when trying to accelerate. It can also make going through intersections a hairy proposition. This happens constantly and my wife and I have taken to carpooling whenever possible. It is not safe to drive. We noticed the issue shortly after I bought it certified preowned from Ford in November of 2017. Ford told me repeatedly that there was a learning component to the transmission and that it had to learn how I drive before it "settled in" and to give it time. After a learning module reset, multiple calls and trips to Ford in December 2018 they finally agreed to repair the transmission. I was told I would receive a call to schedule a repair date once the parts came in. They also said at the time that the vehicle should be safe to drive in the meantime despite my misgivings. This was over 8 months ago. Each time I call they said I am still on the waiting list and that I have to wait like everyone else. There is nothing more they can do until they have the parts. It is now 7/29/19, over 8 months later, and they have yet to repair the vehicle because they do not have parts. I have been told by multiple Ford dealerships that there are no parts currently available nationally. In my area I was told by one service department that it is common to wait over a year. I can't sell the car to someone else in good conscience knowing the problem. I can't use the car safely because of the problem. I'm still making monthly payments on the car despite the problem so I can't buy a new car. I'm trapped along with apparently thousands of others and someone needs to do something about this. Ford needs to be held accountable.

14 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2019

My car's dps6 transmission is jumpy, catches, and slips every single time I drive my car. The car violently shakes every time the transmission needs to shift up, and some times will slip when downshifting to a complete stop. This has been persisting since I bought the car right after its initial release and has been unable to be mitigated by repeated trips to mechanics and Ford dealerships. I have repeatedly stopped in the middle of intersections when accelerating because the transmission shifts into neutral and I must come to a stop before it will shift back into gear.

15 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2019

My transmission problems started very early on, my car would shudder with I accelerated from a dead stop. I would take my car to the Ford dealer for repair and they would adjust the module and that would work for a short time only to happen again. After several adjustments they would tell me that my car would need a new clutch assembly, clutch and throw out bearing. My car has gone through 3 clutches and the dealer told me it needs a fourth. My daughter attends the university of west virginia and we do not take this car anymore due to the shuddering on inclines in the mountains.

16 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2019

I have had transmission problems since I purchased my 2014 Ford Focus se. Within the first 15,000 miles, I had to get the transmission fixed because my vehicle was shuddering/stalling. Ford told me the transmission was under warranty and it would be free to fix. I had to have it fixed three other times before hitting 60,000 miles for the same issues. Now I am out of warranty and next time it will cost me $1500 to fix! these issues pose a true safety concern. About 10,000-ish miles after getting my car fixed it will begin to shutter when I'm pulling out into traffic. Over time this shutter becomes a hesitation or a stall, meaning that I become a sitting duck in the middle of intersections or when entering busy roads, or merging onto interstates. When driving it is important to be able to time your entry into traffic, I have to make sure to give myself an extra beat just in case my car decides to hesitate! usually after a hesitation or shutter while entering traffic, my car fails to accelerate as it should which adds to the danger. In addition, my car will also roll/lurch forward at times when I have it in reverse. I must slam on my break and often take it out of gear before it will act as it should. It also does a weird thing when I am using my cruise control at higher speeds. If I push my break to cancel the cruise the engine sounds as though it is stuck, the rpms stay really high, and it is as though I am in neutral. My break still works but I can press my gas to the floor and it won't make a difference. The amount of time this lasts will vary. After complaining, I have been told I'm not driving my automatic correctly, or I have been offered the "opportunity" to buy a new Ford. I have also been told its not a big deal because it won't put me on the side of the road. What I'm most concerned about is that it will get me killed while on the road.

17 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2019

84000 mi I bring into Ford dealer that I purchased from and majority of service has been done at. Poor shifting and stuttering has been reported as far back as 33,000 miles. Vehicle is so bad now, at a stop light or stop sign, upon pressing the accelerator, car violently shudders and will not move forward for 5 to 8 seconds. Today, July 17th 2019, dealer found clutch to be 700 rpm out of spec. Told me that my warranty has expired both factory and the extra service protection that I purchased when new. I explained that the dual-clutch transmission is under a Ford bulletin that is covered for 100,000 miles because of a known problem dating back years in Focuses and the Ford fiesta. Service manager gives me Ford corporate customer service number to contact, so I do. I explained to them that this is part of the known transmission issue that Ford is well aware of especially in light of the news feed in the past 72 hours with documents admitting their knowledge of defective transmissions. This car has been unsafe for years and Ford does not stand behind it, they told me at Ford customer service that this is my responsibility but to save my receipt in case in the future this is deemed part of the issue. I explained to both the service manager at the Ford dealership and Ford customer service that this was my college student daughter's car, and that it is a very unsafe vehicle that has almost caused her to get into three accidents due to no acceleration. I can attest that the 2014 Ford Focus se model does have transmission issues which cause a very unsafe vehicle.

18 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2019

Car shudders and shakes while taking off from a light and acts like it is slipping in between 2 and third gears . Makes stopping and starting or entering a highway very dangerous . Seems thisnproblem is an on going one with this year model Ford .

19 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2019

Vehicle has a strong shudder when accelerating from a stop or from low speeds. Gaudin Ford in las vegas told me the 2014 Focus has a problem with their clutch that causes the shuddering. I had the clutch replaced at 7500 miles. The shudder came back at 55000 miles and is getting worse now at 75,000 miles. There is a recall for this exact problem for the same year make and model but for some reason my VIN isn't included. The problem affects me; Ford service has already confirmed it. I need my VIN included in the recall/extended warranty.

20 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2019

Vehicle shudder problem 2014 Ford Focus se I bought the car from an auction on may 13th, 2019 with slightly more than 78000 miles on the odometer. I could not drive it away because I did not have a second driver and the auction was 1 hour away. I picked up the car two days later. When I put the car in gear and started driving, I immediately noticed the car shuddering/stuttering. This happened every time I came to a stop and tried to accelerate from stop or merge into traffic. The vehicle takes long to accelerate and shakes while trying to pick up speed. I was afraid and still am afraid that it was going to stall. I've since gone online to do some research and I am finding that this seems to be a universal problem for this car. Now, I know auction cars are sold as is, and I understood this when I bid for the car but this seems to be a manufacturer defect that has not been corrected by the manufacturer on many of these cars. The problem in my case is that I bought this car as a surprise for my 16 year-old daughter who is soon going to be 17 and is due to take her road test. With the type of acceleration and stalling issues being reported online, how can Ford not take action to recall/and or fix the problem.

21 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2019

I was driving and all of a sudden NY check engine light came on, my car began to shudder and lurch forward a few feet as I tried to accelerate, it seemes like I has a sudden loss of power as well. I drove home immediately and upon getting home realized I could not reverse. As I tried to reverse my cas engine simply just revved.

22 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact purchased the vehicle in April of 2019. While accelerating from a stop, the vehicle shuddered. The VIN was excluded from TSB number: 16-0109 and customer satisfaction problem 14m01 # 6. The dealer (northside Ford, 12300 san pedro Ave, san antonio, TX 78216, (210) 319-5734) diagnosed that the vehicle needed a new clutch; however, the vehicle was not included in the extended warranty for the clutch and transmission leak. The manufacturer was contacted and agreed with the dealer. The failure mileage was 88,800.

23 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2019

Car shudders when accelerating from a stop through the 1st gear. Had software reset and clutch replaced, but the problem still exists. There is a technical service bulletin on this issue, and as I understand, I can have the software reset and clutch replaced 2 more times, and then possibly get some monetary abatement if it's still not fixed.

24 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2019

When accelerating, either from a complete stop or while in motion, car shudders violently while switching gears. Sometimes this results in loss of acceleration. This has scared us quite a few times when accelerating through an intersection as the power loss has put us in situations when an accident could easily have occurred. This shudder happens 90% of the time when accelerating, and is getting worse. Clutches were replaced not long after we bought it (bought used from dealer in 2016), and we were told by the dealer in 2018 that the clutches needed to be replaced again, and since they were 2 months out of warranty, we would have to cough up the $1800 ourselves to replace the clutches for the second time in a car that was then 4 years old.

25 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2019

Had the trans clutches repaired, and still having the same issues: car shudders and shakes while taking off from a light and acts like it is slipping in between gears . Makes stopping and starting or entering a highway very dangerous . Seems that this problem is an on going issue with this year model Ford . There should be a recall or the trans should have a lifetime warranty for Fords know daul clutch problems.

26 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2019

Tl-the contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving the vehicle takes a long time to accelerate. The vehicle shakes while trying to pickup speed. The contact worried about possibly flooding the engine especially in city driving. The dealer and the manufacturer had not yet been contacted. The contact was waiting to receive the follow up notification letter of another issue for a recall informing her that the part were available. The failure mileage was 70,000. Tf.

27 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2018

Constant shuddering when accelerating . The whole car shakes and feels like the engine is about to fall out. Ford double clutch transmission on 2014 Ford Focus needs to be recalled.

28 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2018

My 2014 Ford Focus has the worst shudder and shake when starting out from a stop the the whole vehicle shakes and shudders like the wheels are going to come off. Once you get up to speed it normalizes but as accelerating it is just a paint shaker of a car. I have had my car in 7 times for the transmission clutch problems. It has been replaced 3 times. Twice before the initial warranty was up and then again last year when they extended the one time warranty repair. The clutch issue is still persisting and they made me pay for a throw out bearing last time it was replaced even though that part was directly related to the clutch problem the car has had since purchase. The 4 other times I brought the car in I was just told that it is normal for the car to shake a little. I do t believe that at all and I am tired of this piece a crap car with its transmission issues and Ford doing nothing more to help the consumers out with the problem when they fully know it is their problem with the car. When I go to my Ford app and look up the service records it is listed as unknown with a 0 dollar amount when the transmission issues were fixed.

29 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2018

My 2014 Ford Focus is exhibiting a transmission problem such that it does not accelerate when the throttle is pressed. It has excessive shudder from the clutch engagement and will lurch or fail to accelerate when moving from a stop sign, or when making low-speed movements. This represents a safety concern as it may fail to accelerate when merging, entering traffic or making evasive maneuvers. The problem is ongoing, however, the most serious instance of this problem occurred on September 29th 2018, where my vehicle dramatically shuddered and failed to accelerate while returning home from a short trip. The vehicle was inspected on Nov 3rd by a Ford dealer who indicated the clutch and related parts would need to be replaced, they also notified us that this was replaced once before when the vehicle had about 24,000 miles. At present, the vehicle has a bit over 79,000 miles. Upon contacting Ford to determine whether my vehicle was eligible for the clutch service recall 14m01, they indicated that I would need to contact NHTSA in order to have my vehicle flagged as eligible.

30 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2018

Car shudders and feels like transmission problems. Replaced clutch under warranty at 31,000 miles and now at 75,000 is is gone again. Over $1,200 repair not covered by Ford.

31 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. When attempting to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle shuddered, hesitated, and vibrated. The vehicle was taken to thayer Ford (18039 n. Dixie hwy, boiling green, OH) where it was diagnosed that the clutch and seal kit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact indicated that the clutch and inner input shaft seals were previously replaced and the transmission was reprogrammed in August of 2017, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 78,000.

32 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2018

2014 Ford Focus has shut down while driving two times. Once in the middle of a busy road I was able to coast the car into a parking lot. The second time in my neighborhood, both times tranmissuon fault service now flashed, the car shuddered until it was at a complete stop. I've had the clutch replaced/fixed 2 times neither covered under fully and I was responsible to pay my warranty deductible. I have had the trandmission control module fixed once and now in the shop again, but was told they don't know what the issue is, haven't seen the codes that populated before. Each time I drive that car I literally risk my life, to have a car just drop rpm to 0, shudder and jerk until I can find somewhere to park it. I drive 40 miles one way to work taking up to 5 different freeways. At what point does my safety and those driving around me become an issue? when I stall out mid highway? when the car jerks to a stop and someone slams into me? each time the car has been taken in, I am told the problem is fixed, yet I find myself back again within months for the same issue. Losing power on a car while being in full motion going up to 45 mph, is not safe for anyone. Having to drive a car that consistently shakes and jerks while in motion, is not safe. How many more times does this need to occur before someone realizes this model is not safe!.

33 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2018

When entering high way and step on gas car struggles and stays at a low speed and will no speed up until after awhile it starts to shift gears. When going at a high speed wheels start to shake car can't go faster than 55mph. When making a complete stop and the. Step on gas it struggles to shift gears, when turning car off and then turning it on after 10 minutes car will not turn on even with a new battery. You have to keep trying to idle until car turns on.

34 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. While driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle shuddered when the accelerator pedal was depressed. Also, the fuel gauge failed to display the correct fuel level. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact called lafontaine Ford of birch run (11661 n beyer rd, birch run, mi 48415, (989) 652-6157) and was informed to have the vehicle diagnosed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The failure mileage was 108,980.

35 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2018

Car purchased used in Feb 2018. 60,000 miles on the odometer. After a few days I noticed the car would shudder whenever I accelerated from a stop sign or light. I took it to the local dealer (battlefield Ford, manassas va) who test drove it and said there was nothing wrong and that, in fact, "it was the best driving 2014 Focus he (the service manager) had ever test driven. " they didn't do anything to solve the problem. A year and a half later the problem remains. Now I see there's an investigation and that Ford knew about this shuddering problem since even before putting the model out for sale.
