37 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2017

I have had transmission issues with this vehicle since about the 10,000 mile mark. The car shutters and shakes when accelerating and looses power. It will barely pull hills and at times when driving the car will not shift into gear and the rpms have reved above 5000 and if I didn't shift into neutral I'm afraid the motor would have blown. This occurred when I was merging into traffic on the interstate and nearly caused an accident. There has been a warranty extension by you all for certain models of this vehicle but not all. I would request you guys extend the warranty to all model year Ford Focus as the issue seems to be the clutch.

Transmission: while driving the vehicle the transmission in some cases will shift very rapidly giving the vehicle no acceleration power. The vehicle feels sluggish and vibrates. Also, while driving over speed humps or through an intersection in almost every instance the vehicle starts to vibrate after going over the speed hump or through the intersection. Fuel pump: while driving the car the car lost all power while driving in las cruces, new mexico. The car did not stall completely however when depressing the accelerator the car would just now increase in rpm's. I took the car into a mechanics shop and they were not able to duplicate problem. I drive the car for another year and this time the car again started to sputter. It turned out to be the fuel pump.

Car shudders and hesitates when driving in traffic at any time. When trying to accelerate it shudders and hesitates. At a stop sign on a hill the car will suddenly go backwards without warning when trying to go forward after a stop. This has been consistently happening since February 2017. We have been forced to drive this way as we do not have money to fix Fords faulty transmission.

45 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2017

Good afternoon, my family and I have a 2 year old 2014 Ford Focus that we bought brand new off the lot to avoid the problems associated with used cars. 2 weeks ago in the middle of the highway the vehicle began to shudder and lose power and then eventually turned off while in motion. We had the vehicle towed to the dealership and quickly began to try and figure out what is going on. A quick google search revealed we were not the only ones. Experiencing this issue. There appears to be a major issue with the Focus transmission. The dealership state they can find nothing wrong with the car and suggested we drive more aggressively to solve the problem. Immediately we contacted Ford motor company as this is clearly a bigger issue than just my car. Fmc states there is nothing they can do because they can't prove that anything happened and there are no codes. No codes=no problem. They have refused to investigate any further. Then next time my car stops could be in front of another car and can kill someone. Ford is refusing to do anything to rectify the issue and is putting my family and many other family's lives in danger. Please help me. Do a search online about the Focus and you will see that I am not the only one. Please. I am scared to drive my own car but I do not feel safe. It lurches forward, stops responding and shudders.

The transmission causes the car to shudder and jerk on acceleration, and has caused a miss-shift while turning left, shifting into a high gear and stalling in on coming traffic multiple times. The transmission has been replaced twice, with the same faulty design, and is failing a third time with 50,000 miles. Car was bought brand new.

48 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2016

2015 not even a year old had clutch replaced due to car shuddering and failed clutch shudder test. Not even a year later, doing it again and Ford is telling me there is no warranty, it is out of the 60,000 mile warranty that came with the car. They want me to pay $1100 out of pocket to replace a new clutch due to shedder test failing again. This is ridiculous when they know a problem exists.

49 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2016

In the city after stopping at light and starting to drive car shudders, vibrates and tires feel like they are not rotating. Which the car behind me to step on his brakes to avoid hitting me. Once I get pass the "shudder, vibrate and jerking the car drives o. K. I have been told it is the transmission. I also had the car jerk forward with increase speed without me increasing my speed.

50 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2016

The tranmission/engine hesitates/stalls while driving. Rough accelaration. The first time this happened I was driving on the freeway 65mph and notice the vehicle was driving weird when trying to accelerate, when I slowed down the car would shake when trying to gain speed again. I immediately got off of the freeway pulled into a parking lot to look the car over. Turned off the car to call someone, tried turning the car back on within 5 minutes and the car had completely locked down, had to call a tow truck to tow to dealer car had 21,000 miles on it. Dealer stated the issue would be fixed some type of update needed done to the transmission. The update did not fix the problem but the dealer states everything is working properly. The car still hesitates on acceleration. I bought the car for my teen driver but I am afraid to let him drive it because I don't know how safe the car is. There is a serious issue with how this car operates on acceleration.

51 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2016

From the date of purchase in 2014 this car hesitates upon acceleration shutters and shakes. There have been numerous times when I have felt unsafe and at risk for bodily harm. I have taken it to my dealer numerous times and have been told repeatedly "this is the worst transmission Ford has ever made. " but they explain that Ford will do nothing about it. "I wish they would, everyone complains about this car. " on numerous occasions while traveling between a stopped position and five, 10, or 15 miles an hour this car hesitates shakes and shimmying. I had it in a little over a month ago with the same issue. They did nothing and told me "Ford says if it falls within a certain parameter there is nothing we can do. Our hands are tied. " this morning I was heading to a family funeral, pulled out of my driveway tried to accelerate and my car choked and died. I have been unable to get it restarted and had to have it towed to a different dealership hoping to get better customer service. I honestly believe there should be a class action lawsuit against the Ford motor company for this inferior product. Also, my radio has never worked correctly. If I turn the rear defrost on there is horrible static over the radio. The dealer just keeps on telling me "you have bad reception. ".

52 Vehicle Shudder problem

Got a recall notice June 2016 got a new clutch and transmission power train. 54 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2016

First problem was the car shuddering and jerking. Ford garage, repair some transmission seals, programming, replaced fuel tank, fuel pump and engine wire harness repair. Shortly after the car began to lose ability to move when accelerating, the engine rpm's would rev and vehicle had little power to move. Ford garage replaced clutch and did programming. On the way home from that repair, our care suffered the same symptoms it was brought in for. It is currently in the shop and we have no confidence in what we will get back.

55 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2016

Car shakes when going from a stopped position then pressing on gas. Feels like it jerks. Also my catalytic converter has been faulty since 2 years after I got my car in 2014.

56 Vehicle Shudder problem

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the parts to repair the vehicle would not be available for two months. The failure mileage and VIN were unknown.

57 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2016

Low tire pressure light appears every two to three weeks. At least one tire needs to be inflated, sometimes more than one tire needs to be inflated. The Ford dealer inflates them usually. Tire pro has also inflated tires. Ford doesn't tell me what problem is, they just keep inflating the tires. Light appears when vehicle is being driven on a city street, highway, turning and stationary. Also, vehicle shudders on acceleration from the moment I purchased vehicle. Took vehicle to Ford service department. Vehicle doesn't shudder as bad as before but still has issue.

58 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2016

When test driving this 2014 Ford Focus I felt the car shudder on take off and when pulling out into traffic hesitation. I asked the salesman about this and just shrugged it off as no big deal. After purchasing the auto I had to return to the dealer in parsons, KS. And was told it was the way I was accelerating. No way there is something wrong with this vehicle. After 3 different returns and work done it still does the same thing. I am 82yrs old and do not feel safe driving this car. Ford motor knew they put out a faulty vehicle but sold it anyway. They extended the warranty to 100000 miles but each time you return for service they say they can't do anything unless the engine light is on. Ford supposedly put out a notice to repair these cars when they came in on 7-12-2019 to 7-19-2019 but when I called I was told by the service manager he knew nothing about this and could only do anything if told by Ford. I contacted pittsburg Ford on 7-19-2019 and asked to speak to the service manager but unable to locate him so I left my name and phone number and have yet to hear from him. This happens when driving, pulling out into traffic and when driving on the highway. On occasion the transmission slips/.

59 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2016

The transmission malfunction light came on while driving and the vehicle shuddered on acceleration. This happened a few times. The car would shudder and jerk and it would lose power.

60 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2016

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. At 5,800 miles, the transmission caused the vehicle to jerk and vibrate when the gears were shifted. The dealer replaced the clutch. The failure also occurred at 18,500 miles. After repairing the vehicle again, the failure recurred at 29,000 miles. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The VIN was unknown. The initial failure mileage was 5,800.

61 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2016

Shuddering of the auto transmission, erratic shifting, bogging down during acceleration/wont go. Pulled out of the driveway today onto the state highway I live on and the car shuddered and would not go, was almost hit in the side due to the cars lack of power to enter traffic. These cars should be recalled immediately!.

62 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2016

The transmission is being defective since I initially purchase the car in August 2014, I did not noticed it right away, it was until I was driving with a passenger that he mention the shake that the car have when I was in a stop and begin to accelerate it start shaking like when you are driving a manual and don't know how to properly change the shift. It keep doing it so I took it to the Ford dealership mechanics and they told me they know about the problem but they couldn't do anything about it since all the transmissions were dual even if they change it I will still experience the same. So at that moment they told me they could only reset the computer to see if alleviate the problem, it didn't so I try to take it again but they will tell me they didn't have the personal to do transmission work or things of that nature.

63 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2016

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle vibrating violently without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced or rebuilt. The vehicle was repaired with a rebuilt transmission twice, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 46,000.

64 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2016

When starting the vehicle it has a 'hard start' and idles extremely rough for a car with only 18200 miles. It has done this since I purchased it in June 2014. I've had enough cars to know that this is indeed not "normal". It feels like the idle is not set right and it vibrates enough that you can feel it while in park and idling. I was told by the service manager who is obviously not a mechanic that this is 'normal' for the 4 cylinder engine to vibrate. Also the car continuously shudders, lurches and loses power on acceleration as a result of a faulty transmission. Clutch assembly was replaced at 9300 miles. Note to everyone, upon taking the car to the garage for the fuel pump recall in Dec 2015, the car had to be put in the garage again in Jan 2016 for the purge valve to be replaced, which resulted in my tank becoming deformed (deformed means it shrinks, but no one bothered to explain that to me). Within a month (after 4 repeated trips to the garage for the same issues: distance to empty calculations and miles per gallon were all over the place, no gas mileage to speak of but each time was told that when diagnostics were performed my car was getting 35 mpg). However, when I put gas in it, I had a 12 gallon tank before purge valve was replaced in Jan 2016, 9 gallons was all it would hold and the gauge showed full. The the car used 1/4 tank of gas to drive 27 miles. The vehicle is still shuddering at a stop light & lurching when accelerating and feels as though the tires are grabbing for traction. But it is within 'specs' according to the technicians. I have had the following replaced: 2nd fuel tank; 3rd fuel pump; 2nd purge valve; and 2nd clutch assembly and the car isn't even 2 yrs old yet and has under 20,000 miles. It is a road hazard. I've had it to 3 different garages and still no resolution. Contacted Ford (dont bother), I have since contacted the bbb.

65 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

From the purchase of the vehicle (Dec. 2014) there have been repeated issues with power. Within the first months it powered down on the freeway - with the dashboard's power flickering on and off and the car put putting to a near stop. We were only driving about 40 mph and it was not a steep incline. When I called the dealership from which I purchased the car they didn't report any recalls or malfunctions, when I brought it in they said that there was a transmission software updated needed. On and off for months throughout the year my car would struggle when accelerating and shake. Although I brought it in and called multiple times I was told that it was safe and operable. Finally in January 2016 I brought it in again (after having gone in multiple times for inspections and fluid changes) when I had experienced stalling enough times to frighten me and after a whole day was told that there was a recall on the clutch. It has been 2 months!!! I have not received a loaner or rental vehicle even though the car is unsafe to drive and there is a malfunctioning clutch that controls the power of the vehicle which could stall at anytime resulting in an accident. My car is still shaking and worries me to drive every single time; I do not have an alternative vehicle or the money to pay for one nor should I have to. I have been disregarded repeatedly by Ford's corporate customer service manager nikki and by the gentlemen whom I once respected at the service department of petaluma Ford. The part has been "on order" for more than a month. I am appalled at the way that this situation is - or rather is not being handled. This car is a lemon and after paying thousands of dollars for this vehicle I would like to be reimbursed so that I can purchase a reliable vehicle outside of Ford's limited selection or at least have the car rightfully replaced by an alternative vehicle.

66 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2015

From a stop the vehicle has a major problem with acceleration 0-30 seems to be where it's at. The vehicle shudders, revs rpms, DE-accelerates, slow to accelerate to speed, and has a metal grinding sound on acceleration. This is not once or twice this is every time that the car has to slow down and pick back up speed. I am afraid to pull out into traffic b/c I don't know that my car will make it up to speed fast enough to not get me rear-ended. The car shakes like it's going to fall apart when we accelerate and almost feels like it doesn't want to go into gear. This is the second Ford vehicle that this has happened to my first was a 2012 that had a recall Ford wouldn't honor until the part broke and left me stranded on a bridge on my way home from work at night. This is a 2014 that I'm afraid to drive around in with me child b/c it feels as if the car is going to drop my transmission in the middle of the road. I'm also reading that it has problems braking with this acceleration issue and will jolt out into traffic at a stop light. This is from every stop getting ready to accelerate again. My car only has maybe 10,500 miles on it and I've only had it maybe 8 months. Ford says they will keep fixing it if it breaks under warranty, but my warranty is only so long then I have to pay for Fords' mess up out of my pocket. I don't have that kind of money.

67 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2015

A few weeks after we purchased a new 2014 Ford Focus it shuddered a little a few times upon starting from a dead stop. Dealer said car had a manual automatic transmission & this was normal. The car was searching for a gear & after a break in period it would stop. Around 7,000 miles while the car appeared to be running okay a service transmission light came on with a red triangle. I immediately pulled off into a parking lot. I turned the car off to see if the message would still appear. It didn't but although the gear shift went into reverse the car wouldn't move backward even after several attempts. After the tow truck arrived it did back up but I was afraid to drive it the 55 miles to my home. Tow truck driver could see that there were warning messages but couldn't get the computer to show the information about the warnings. After it was towed home I tested it again & it went backwards okay. I did take it to the dealer who admitted that there was a problem & supposedly fixed it. Then while going from store to store christmas shopping the car started to shudder, pretty violently now, upon acceleration from dead stops at almost every red light. I thought the car wasn't going to make it through a few intersections especially on hills. Since then the car has only shuddered once. So because it's so intermittent it's almost impossible to take it to the dealer while this is happening. I also share the same fear that others have about pulling out in traffic or accelerating to pass because I also experience loss of power almost daily. It seems as though it drops down a gear or can't kick into a gear. These transmission issues are dangerous & after reading many similar complaints it appears that Ford is brushing them off. Have had other problems with the computer as well. Our first new car & it's heartbreaking to think we have a lemon. Thinking of contacting an attorney.

68 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2015

When the car accelerates from a stop, the car shudders and vibrates and has a rattling noise. I have taken this car three times for this problem. The Ford dealer has told me that there is a problem with the Focus. They told me that it's an automatic with a manual transmission.

69 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2015

The transmission on this car is absolutely awful and dangerous. Ford tries to say "slight shuttering is a normal characteristic of the transmission" and that it's just something to get use to. It's unbelievable that they are saying this. The car is very dangerous to drive because you have no idea when it is going to shudder or have delayed acceleration. Whenever you come to a complete stop and you go to accelerate the car bucks shakes and stutters to the point that it's just plain embarrassing and not driveable. It drives completely fine on the highway, but once you have to stop at any stop light or sign it's awful. You can absolutely forget bumper to bumper traffic because it feels like the car is going to explode. One top of all of that it can't even make it up a parking garage. It was terrifying when I found this out and almost caused many accidents. When you go to pull onto the highway or turn in front of a car the Focus will stutter and stall and almost caused many accidents that way as well. All Ford does to fix these issues is reset the computer and say the car "needs to relearn your driving patterns, and not to bring it back for at least 500 miles. " this is a complete lie and the car drives great for a week and then goes back to being awful. Then when the problem continues they will just say they need to replace parts but it's the same awful stock parts. We didn't want to deal with driving this car anymore and bringing it back to the dealership all the time. We traded it in for a Subaru crosstrek and lost a ton of money, but it was the best decision we made. I feel terrible for whoever is going to end up buying that dangerous car. The thing is, after you let the car sit for a day or two, the first 20 minutes you drive it, it drives great! so the buyer will definitely be deceived. We also joined the class action lawsuit and hope to get some money back.

70 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2015

I purchased my 2014 Ford Focuse se hb in February of 2015. Around 13,000 miles the car began erratically shifting in second and third gear while driving. Having trouble stopping and going again at stop lights. After waiting 8 weeks to get a "new" clutch, the next day the car was grinding horribly when turning. Took it back in and they said it was "fixed" now. The car is still having shifting problems and drives very hard on both city and highway. I have noticed the car lunging forward when attempting to stop, making me very uneasy for my safety in this vehicle. When I asked them to fix it again they said there was nothing they could do, that they didn't see anything wrong with the car.
