37 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2023

When driving the car it shutters, jerks, loses power and accelerations, shakes. The transmission was replaces once and it is doing it again under 100k miles. It could easily cause an accident. Transmission also randomly says it is hot to stop. There is a customer safety extended warranty on the tcm for this specific car. From what I have seen there is a recall on transmission clutches for the 2014 Ford Focus se just not my car apparently for the clutch. Ford wants me to take it to pay 250 to tell me if its covered under warranty recall but a transmission place already told me it was a faulty clutch they told me about the extended warranty. I have read this happened to hundreds of people. It is dangerous. How can I file a class action lawsuit, report to the better business bureau to be resolved or report to the proper place? also not to long ago driving down the highway the doors just swung open door locks stopped working. There was a recall and got fixed but this car is a safety hazard and Ford should care more about their product and customer safety. Is there anyone who has a 2014 Ford Focus with a clutch issue. I was told if its the tcm the car wont start I don't want to spend 250 to be told the clutch isn't under warranty. It is a ripoff. I know its not the tcm.

47 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2022

My 2014 Ford Focus titanium experiences bucks and jerking on a daily basis. I will be making turns crossing large streets and I will have a chance to go and when I do the car will stall and the power will come back almost getting me killed by oncoming traffic. Also at red lights or stop signs I will stop and then press the gas only to have the car go a little and then stall or jerk/buck in which the person behind me (especially at red lights) thinks I'm going and goes only to have me stop and then they almost hit my back (I actually had one person tap my back bumper but thank jesus I was ok). Also on the highway doing 55-70 mph and I press the gas to move a lane or go forward more the car will drop gears and stall causing the cars behind me to almost hit me and honk. This is not too mention the slips and bucks the transmission causes on the daily which are just annoying. This is extremely dangerous! I have given my wife my Nissan rogue and taken the Ford Focus as I don't feel safe letting her (or myself) drive it. And the transmission has been replaced as well as the clutch before and most recent the car wouldn't go in reverse and they fixed the tcm. It is now known that Ford knew about these issues and did nothing! I'm afraid one day I will die in an accident and it will be because of this transmission but we don't have the money to get rid of the car we already paid off. And no one wants to buy this junker as we've tried to sell it! I don't know what to do as this is unbelievable?!.

48 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2022

Transmission control module went out on my 2014 Ford Focus that I had just purchased March of 2022. The vehicle had only 40,000 miles wen the tcm went out and luckily it happened while I was in my driveway. I had the car towed to owen Ford in jarratt , va. Of course, we had to wait for the part to come in which took a few months. At first we were told that we would have to pay for the tcm and the fee to do the work. Later we were called to tell us that Ford had made it a recall. So they finally repaired the tcm and called my husband to come try it out. My husband drove 7 miles up the road and back and went to the little store next to the dealership. When he got back in the car, the car would not go forward or in reverse. He walked back over to the dealership and told them the issue. They went and got it. Said they didn't know what was wrong with it because no code came up. So they said they would have to rebuild the whole transmission and it would cost me $3900. I'm sorry but I had no transmission problem until the tcm went out. And the dealership can't tell me what exactly is wrong but wants to charge me $3900. Ford should be responsible for fixing my vehicle. It was running just fine until the tcm went out.

Recommend replacing evap vapor canister and retesting. 07/30/2022- I took vehicle to have the evap vapor canister replaced mechanic noticed that the fuel tank was slightly deformed. I drove the vehicle approxamitely 120 miles so the pcm would cycle and clear the permanent code . Fuel guage was on empty w/light on. I stopped at gas station I put 26 dollars of e-85 in vehicle. When I returned to car the fuel gauge was reading full dte 418 miles. The gauge was reading innacurate. I drove the car about 40 miles before it stalled and it would not start. I waited a few minutes and tried to start the vehicle and it started . Iimmediately drove home and parked it in the garage. Withouty the software update and necessary repairs. Its a risk.

50 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2022

I purchased my 2014 Ford Focus in 2018. I drove it very little between 2020-2021 due to covid and being furloughed. Once back to regular driving the car was shuttering and in July 2022 the clutch and tcm failed. At first the dealer denied it had anything to do with the transmission or settlement from Ford. I had to file an intent to arbitrate just to get it fixed under the warranty. The tcm was on on indefinite back order and I was told it could be up to a year. I filed for arbitration trying to get a repurchase using the magnuson moss the federal emission and design defect, and the consumer fraud act. I was denied because of the class action lawsuit. Ford refuses to honor their own warranty and the federal warranty because of this lawsuit. The suit was filed prior to my purchasing the vehicle as was the opt out. I am not involved w that lawsuit and should not be held to its terms. It’s terms benefit Ford. The tcm warranty was extended to 10 years by Ford in 2015 2 years before the lawsuit. I filed a complaint w the epa and miraculously Ford found a tcm and repaired it in one day. My car sat for months. It still shutters and has lost power in the 3 weeks that I have had it back. Mooresville Ford where the car was repaired refuses to give me an invoice or any information on any additional warranty on the replacement parts. This car is a danger and threat! the fact that u allowed Ford to get away w this is disgusting. Ford claims that ur car has to fail 3 times before a repurchase. So your telling me that while driving, usually on the highway, at over 65 mph my car has to lose power and I have to navigate it to the right with my steering and brakes that should hopefully work before I can get a repurchase?! under magnuson moss and the epa warranty I’m eligible for a repurchase. The car is not safe and I could not resell it to anyone in good conscience knowing that it will fail again. The replacement parts are the same defective parts that u allow them to use.

53 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2022

After the engine light had been on for about a day and before I remembered to get it looked at, an alarm indicating "transmission fault" suddenly came on when I was in the middle of an intersection and the car completely stopped moving and wouldn't accelerate. Other cars went around me, but I was stuck there until I was able to restart the engine and try again and pull over. If another driver had not been paying attention, it could have caused an accident. This occurred at a four way stop, but on a busier street it might have been worse. We were able to get it driving again after restarting, and the independent mechanic diagnosed it with multiple error codes from the transmission control module. They reset the error codes to get it out of second gear and advised us that the tcm would need to be replaced soon. When reaching out to multiple Ford dealers and customer support representatives, we were told that though the tcm issues were under extended warrenty the replacement tcm part are backordered and we were offered no guidance on when parts would arrive and were told others had been waiting for months, so we have no recourse to fix the faulty system and were offered no compensation or assistance in the meantime. It has so far been about 6 weeks since the incident and have no updates. As a family with one car, this leaves us unable to trust that our only vehicle and we have needed to rent cars at great expense for longer trips.

54 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2022

Bought this car in may 2022. After about 2 weeks the car was slipping gears and would not reverse in some cases. Had it diagnosed by the Ford dealership and was told it needed a new tcm. After a few months we managed to get the part ourselves and replace it. Now the car is shifting roughly and says complete transmission failure but will still drive. I cannot believe Ford didn't recall the part, but rather issued an extended warranty on a part that is otherwise impossible to get ahold of.

55 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2022

I purchased this vehicle in March, 2022 knowing it had been bought back by Ford from the original owner under the lemon law because of repeated issues of balky transmission performance or no drive and time out of service. I purchased this car from the second owner in georgia. According to the Ford service documents obtained with the vehicle, several major repairs were performed. The vehicle performed well the time of purchase. I had confidence that Ford motor company had corrected the original defects. Now, 4 months after purchase, the transmission control module failed, resulting in a no drive/no start condition, two tow truck calls to remove the vehicle from precarious traffic situations adjacent to busy major highways. The Ford service writer indicates that while my vehicle is covered under Ford 's extended powertrain warranty as a result of the class action lawsuit concerning the dps6 transmission, the current tcm replacement parts backlog is 45,000, with vehicles out of service sitting at my dealer since February, 2022. There is no question that Ford dodged the bullet by skillfully avoid a full recall to replace these failed dps6 transmissions. What good is an extended warranty if no replacement parts are available??.

The transmission shakes violently at take off and while driving it accelerates and acts as if the transmission is slipping. It has gotten worse since I bought it. The shimmy at start up was brought to the attention of the dealership at the time of purchase but I was told there was nothing wrong it was just a common thing with this transmission. My car is coverd under the extended warranty for tcms and clutch parts resulting in the decision in the powershift class action lawsuit. My tcm has now failed, and Ford can not fix the car for up to 6 months, and will make no form of compensation. 63 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2022

The "automatic" transmission jerks you forward as it switches gears. Makes the car slow down rapidly and jerks itself into gear which could cause a driver behind to rear end you. If this were to happen on the freeway, a major accident could occur. Problems diagnosed by transmission shop is actuator motors needing replacement along with the tcm. No one with any official capacity has inspected the car but this can be accomplished. An engine light came on after the transmission failed. Just purchased this car on April 5, 2022. Within one week of purchase this problem began. This car is available for inspection upon request.

64 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2022

On 3/18/22 while driving on I-95 in stop and go traffic the the car shuddered, shook, lurched, lunged from a compete stop and the rpm needle was going crazy. Then an emergency message came on my dashboard telling me the transmission was overheating and to pull over immediately in a safe area. I had the car towed from a shopping area parking lot to apple Ford in columbia maryland. They had it for two weeks, told me they road tested it and found nothing wrong. Meanwhile I researched and found reports all over the internet about these faulty powertrain transmissions and tcm's Ford knew about from 2014 on in those cars that they rolled out anyway. When told them what I found, out after two weeks they said they couldn't replicate the problem and come get the car off their lot. I said they had to drive the car in high traffic and they'd see, but but they were done. They were rude and dismissive. I previously reported this to you in complaint #1147296. I picked up the car and because I'm retired don't drive much it wasn't until stuck in another rolling backup on I-95 on 5-26-22 it did it again. I managed to make it home and the next day took it to aamco in laurel, MD. They confirmed an internal failure in the dual clutch, actuators and tcm module. The exact problem that's going on with all these Ford Focuses nationwide. Total cost of repairs $3,626. 61 and a 4-8 week wait for parts.
