Nhtsa's initial investigation of the 2010 Fusion cars found the power steering faults increase as the cars get older, and failure rates are similar to previous power steering investigations of other Ford models. Safety regulators say the 2016 preliminary investigation is now upgraded to an engineering analysis to determine if the 263,000 model year 2010 Ford Fusion cars should be recalled.

The electronic power steering has failed. When I start the vehicle I get the error message �power steering assist fault�. I started receiving this error message around 70,000 miles but before I could turn the car off and the error message would be gone and the power steering would kick in after a few seconds. The epas has now completely failed. Like many other Fusion owners have found, all Ford dealers around the columbus, ohio area quote the repair price being in excess of $1,600.

Had this fixed less than a year ago to the tune of $1700. Here we are again. It's just a matter of time when the power steering fails again. Service advancetrac warning illuminated while accelerating on dry interstate. This is a safety hazard. People who can't afford the fix will end up in an accident.

There was a safety recall for the 2011 Ford Fusion, however, I put my VIN into Ford's system to access the power steering assist failure recall, and it does not come up. The 2011 Ford Fusion and other years were recalled by Ford, yet it doesn't show for my car. I need this repair completed, as this vehicle is unsafe in its current state. I was driving the vehicle on the city streets and the highway, it lost all steering control. I was in fear of my life. I could barely turn the steering wheel and had to maneuver two lanes of traffic to come to a stop. I have not had the car for long, yet it sits in the garage because it is unsafe and undriveable. I need to know why my 2011 Ford Fusion is not covered. Ford knew about the faulty steering racks in these vehicles and refuse to repair or offer a remedy for some of the same model year vehicles.

Tl- the contact's relative owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while his relative was driving at 30 mph, she attempted to make a left turn and the power steering suddenly failed. Due to the failure, the contact drove into a ditch as several warning lights appeared on the instrument panel. The air bags did not deploy as a result of the accident. The contact suffered no injuries and the police were not called to the scene of the accident. The contact was able to drive the vehicle home after the failure. The contact called sarchione Ford Lincoln of alliance(2480 w state st, alliance, OH 44601) where he was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and gave the contact the same information as the dealer. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 137,000. Jo.

Sudden power steering failure. Started going out while driving 25mph. Stopped the car then turned it back on, it had 0 power steering available after that. Endangered my 6 month old. Same issue as everyone else. Power steering goes out, same part recalled in 2011-2013. Same part is in my vehicle. Please make Ford help us with the 1600-2000 cost of replacement.

Power steering assist failure. My power steering has failed several other times in the past 6 months before the noted date of this complaint (06/21/2020). The remedy always was the same, turn off the vehicle and restart it. This time it has failed for good. Since Ford does not have an active recall for my VIN number I am forced to pay out of pocket to replace a faulty part. I have scoured the web and seen numerous complaints by others Ford owners about this same issue. They more or less say the same thing "nobody can help us". I believe that Ford has cherry picked which vehicles they wanted to issue a recall for, in order to do the bare minimum. Please help. The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at 70 mph, the power steering ceased without warning. The failure was linked to NHTSA campaign number: 15v340000 (steering) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000.

Complete loss of steering. Car warnings on instrument panel while driving and vehicle had complete steering shutdown. Could not turn wheel and almost had an accident. Ford is aware of these power steering module failures at low mileages; mine is only 63,519 miles, but refuses to recall or reimburse owners until the NHTSA takes action. Power steering electrical failure - whole system needs to be replaced.

Power steering system failed as I was leaving the parking lot with no previous signs/indications of service needed.

While driving the power steering failed and said power steering assist fault. Also the stability control system is showing. I know there were recalls on the 2012 Ford Fusion in 2015. This has happened 4 times to me and almost caused an accident while driving with my children in the car. 3 times it failed then came back working but now doesn't work at all. This is my only form of transportation and I need to have the recall honored on this car. I raise 2 of my grandchildren and I do not have $2000 to fix this problem. Thank you.

May 29, 2020 when I attempted to start my Ford Fusion after it was parked a "loss of steering assist" message appeared in the instrument cluster message center. I had the car taken to the dealership. I was told the car needed the steering gear assembly replaced at a cost of $1,600. While the car is a 2012 model, it has only 34,000 miles on it. I was told the car was out of warranty. Doing some research, I found that this was a known problem and that there was a nhsta recall NHTSA campaign number: 15v340000 on this issue and that there was a Ford safety recall 15s18 supplement#1 in 2015 and #2 and #3 dated 5/17/2019 detailing replacing the steering assembly at no charge to the owner for the model year 2011-12 build dates through February 28, 2012 with an extended warranty through 2022 or 150,000 miles . Since my car was built in June of 2012, the dealer said it was not within the warranty period and I would have to pay for the repair. Subsequent online research indicates that Ford's cutoff date of February 28, 2012 is highly suspect and probably arbitrary because there numerous, perhaps hundreds, of complaints on this power steering failure issue going into 2020 on vehicles built after February 28, 2012. Ford obviously did not resolve the manufacturing issue by February 28, 2012 as they would like you to think they did.

The vehicle was then taken to a second independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the steering angle sensor and power steering failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 97,000.

I was driving down the road and all of a sudden I got a power steering failed notice and I couldn't steer my car. I had to pull over and turn off the car and turn it back on to get it to work. This has happened 2-3 times in the past year.

The first time 27 Feb I had just finished filling up with gas and went to start the car and exit. Alarm sounded and power steering fail on the dashboard. Car hard to turn. Turned of car restarted and has fine. 2nd time 4 March 1830 started car to drive and steering locked up and alarm sounded.

Ford states work/part warranty only valid for 12mos, yet new product they want to sell me carries a lifetime warranty. . . $2500 fix for a known issue.

The electronic power steering has completely failed. The safety issue this caused could have been easily catastrophic. Growing up in non-power steering years I know the effort it took to steer, especially when not moving. However, our 2011 Ford Fusion , since the electronic power steering failed you can hardly turn the wheel at all. I am thankful my wife was not going at interstate speed and trying to exit when this happened. I looked on consumer report to see if any others or if any recalls were reported. I found that 445,000 were recalled by Ford, 2011-2013. Many models were recalled for this same problem. However, when I called two different dealerships they said our 2011 was not covered. The dealership said it was only those with certain VIN numbers. So, our vehicle not one of the 445,000 recalled, has the same problem, same safety issues is not covered. Ford knows there's a problem, but they are failing to admit it. We have just over 71000 miles on this vehicle. Like many other before us I am counting on the ntsb to encourage Ford to do the right thing and recall these faulty unsafe electronic power steering units and replace them. When you have 445000 problems you have a problem. The incident happened on a secondary road as well as stationary parked. I'm glad I was test driving it for my wife no way could she could of turned the wheel. Thank you.

We have a 2011 Ford Fusion according to consumer reports Ford recalled 445,000 Fusions and other makes and models for a electronica power steering failure ours has done this now this vehicle has 71,000 miles on it is all and you cannot turn the steering wheel I don't even know how I'm going to get this vehicle to get repaired I called the my local Ford dealership and they said the consumer reports really doesn't know what they're talking about because they only take a select few VIN numbers that they have this problem or this problem part and of course our vehicle did not have the problem part even though our vehicle is acting in the same manner as those that do so the Ford motor company is basically covering up probably thousands of vehicles that are out there right now that could cause accidents could cause fatalities could cause some major safety problems because if it goes out when you're driving it you cannot hardly just barely turn the steering wheel you're in a bad shape I am a 100% disabled american veteran and this is very difficult for me to even try to turn the wheel I understand that the ntsb and the dot of the federal government are investigating forward on this problem I hope you continue to do this and see that this is a safety problem this isn't like a a leaky valve cover gasket this is a safety problem that's going to cause people to be killed I hope and pray that you will continue to push forward in this matter because I'm not having any success at all at the consumer level I am thankful that president trump is in office that he believes in the people so I hope and pray that his departments fight for the consumer I appreciate your time.

Our 2011 Ford Fusion's electronic power steering failed and locked up. Ford has recalled 455,000. Our make,model, and year match but Ford tells me our VIN does not. This is a horrific safety issue. No warning it just goes out. Ford told me just to keep my receipts and maybe your VIN will be added to the list. And maybe get reimbursed. This can be over 2500. 00. To fix. One VIN is covered one is not. The replacement parts through Ford have been updated as to fix the problem. They didn't tell anybody they did it in a unethically. If you buy yours part(s) from day napa. You could have the say horrible problem. How is that even right.

Steering gear failure caused power steering to fail, diagnostic code p07ae-09. Code above associated with recall - steering control module, steering gear replacement for certain 2011-2012 Fusion models. The issue: mechanical failure associated with parts themselves, not with assembly of vehicle. My vehicle's steering gear is covered under a recall but because my vehicle was assembled at a different plant than other covered vehicles of the same model/year, Ford will not cover the cost of the repair. My vehicle should be included in this coverage.
