I am submitting this complaint regarding a complete loss of power steering on my 2014 Ford Fusion. The issue occurred without warning and was accompanied by multiple dashboard alerts including: “steering loss – stop safely” “service advancetrac” “hill start assist not available” the steering became extremely heavy and difficult to turn, creating a major safety concern—especially while driving at low speeds or attempting to park. I have since researched this issue and found numerous reports from other 2014 Ford Fusion owners experiencing the exact same failure. While Ford issued a customer satisfaction program (15n01) covering similar issues on 2011–2013 Fusion models, no such support appears to be available for the 2014 model—even though the symptoms and system design are identical. Dealers are quoting repairs in excess of $3,500 to replace the rack-and-pinion steering system, which is believed to be the source of the failure. Given the abrupt and dangerous nature of the malfunction, I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue as a potential safety defect and consider whether Ford should expand coverage or issue a formal recall for affected 2014 vehicles. This is a critical steering safety issue that could easily lead to accidents or injury if it happens at higher speeds or in traffic. I urge the NHTSA to take this seriously and evaluate Ford’s handling of this problem in 2014 Fusion models. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, douglas c. I am filing a complaint regarding the ineffectiveness of Ford recall 15s18 / NHTSA 15v-340 on my 2012 Ford Fusion (VIN: [xxx] ). On [xxx], immediately after starting the vehicle (prior to moving), the electric power assisted steering (epas) system failed completely and a steering-assist warning illuminated. This occurred when a female driver attempted to operate the vehicle and could not drive it safely without power assist. Modern vehicles like the Fusion are not designed to be driven without epas, and as NHTSA has noted in prior recall actions, loss of assist requires significantly greater effort and poses a safety risk. Diagnostics showed u3000:49-08, confirming internal epas rack failure. The vehicle required full replacement of the steering rack at lilliston Ford (vineland, NJ), costing me $2,460. 65 on July 18, 2025 (invoice attached). Following this repair, new diagnostic codes appeared (b10b9:14-08 and u0423:68-08), coinciding with complete a/c failure. These faults were not present before the epas repair. I purchased a blower motor on July 23, 2025 for $101. 96 to attempt a fix. I requested reimbursement from Ford on July 29, 2025 and followed up on August 19, 2025. As of this filing, Ford has not responded. Because the recall remedy failed to prevent recurrence, and new electrical issues arose immediately after the epas repair, I request that NHTSA review whether recall 15s18 has been effective and ensure Ford honors reimbursement obligations. Attached: repair invoice, diagnostic reports, recall proof, photo, blower motor receipt, and prior correspondence to Ford can be provided if necessary. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The power steering has failed. The dashboard showed these two phrases "service advancetrac" - yellow "service power steering now" - red when that happened the first time the dealership was able to fix it under the customer satisfaction program by providing a module software update. But the issue happened again and I believe it is related to the 15v340 recall. I would like that to be investigated.

Our 2014 Ford Fusion was recalled under NHTSA campaign number 15v250000, issued June 24, 2015, for an issue with internal binding and corrosion in the power steering rack which could lead to a loss of power steering assist. In 2015, brighton Ford (livingston county, mi) performed the recall remedy. After that service, our vehicle's VIN was removed from NHTSA's active recall list. However, on [xxx], less than 10 years later, the exact same issue occurred again—the steering wheel froze and the front wheels did not respond. The "steering loss" warning appeared. Thankfully, no one was hurt. The car was diagnosed and repaired at balise Ford of wilbraham, MA. They retrieved dtc c102d:00 which indicates high friction in the power steering gear, a symptom specifically tied to internal binding caused by water ingress, as described in the original recall. The steering rack was replaced at our expense. The repair invoice and technician comments clearly describe the same failure mode the recall was meant to prevent. This indicates the original recall remedy was ineffective in our case. What is your request to NHTSA? we respectfully request that NHTSA: reinstate our VIN on the 15v250000 recall list, acknowledging that the original repair was inadequate and the defect recurred. Enable us to seek reimbursement from Ford for the repair and towing costs now totaling over $5,400. This situation demonstrates that a single recall remedy does not always fully resolve the safety issue. We hope NHTSA will help ensure affected owners are protected and treated fairly. On may 15, 2025 I experience a loss of power steering assist in my vehicle due to steering gear bold corrosion. There is a recall for this exact same issue, 19s26/19v632, issued on 2019-10-11, however, Ford is telling me my VIN number is not included in this recall. They are also claiming this problem was fixed as part of their recall 19r02 back in 2015. As part of the more recent recall, the remedy calls for replacing the bolts and applying a corrosion inhibitor, but they obviously did not do when fixing recall 19r02 back in 2015.
Upon start up power steering failure. Code u2011 'service advancetrack' 'power steering assist fault'.
Took the vichicle in for recall of the airbag. Was informed byhe dealer they had reprogrammed the steering computer. After approximately 3 months I now have no power steering, almost all the warning lights on the dash are on. Dealer informed me they do not do repairs on a vehicle this old. My mechanic says repairs would be in excess of two thousand dollars at my expense. I found there are over 2700 other complaints similar in nature on this vehicle series.

I currently have no open recalls on my vehicle however I feel as though my vehicle is apart of the the national recall involving the steer column. My vehicle jerks at high speeds randomly and I sometimes lose control. This issue has been seen by multiple mechanics and they’ve done numerous inspections but can’t find the problem. They only tell me they think it may fix the issue but none are certain. I’ve gotten two wheel alignments within a year and each time I’m recommended a wheel alignment by a different mechanic. I’ve bought several tires of this issue because the wear on my tires keeps wearing out and causing my tires to blow out. I believe it involves the national recall.

Sudden power steering failure multiple times while on the road (at both higher speeds of ~55mph and lower speeds of ~20 mph). There was a warning light and notification on that dashboard about 10 seconds before it happened each time. The vehicle will be taken into the dealership tomorrow to be looked at, but after doing some online research this seems to be a very common issue for this year, make and model of Ford Fusion. Loss of power steering makes the vehicle very difficult to steer and pull off the road safety and puts both me and other drivers at risk.
Right front wheel speed sensor replaced and problem continues due to pigtail coming from wiring harness that connects to top portion of wheel speed sensor water enters the connector and short circuits the abs system causing the car to disable abs, traction control and power steering all light illuminated as well.
I was driving as normal I went to make a turn and out of nowhere my car would not turn and almost got smashed on the side of the car would not have swerved out of the way. There was no warning signs lights symptoms or anything one minute it was normal the next was what could have been a deadly situation. After getting a mechanic to diagnose it after removing the steering wheel, because initially was thought the steering column went out or broke, it was found out to be the middle of the steering wheel where it connects to the column that is suppose to be the shape of an alan wrench was almost completely worn down to almost a flat circle. I cannot stress enough how scary and deadly this could have been to me and other motorist. This was verified by mechanics this is not normal wear and tear this has to be a defect.
