Very lucky this was a straight section of road! no prior warning. Recently serviced for air bag recall recently, too. Making matters worse is the exorbitant dealer quote of $2400 to repair by replacing the rack and pinion.

This has happened twice , driving home from all my lights come on and the service advancetrac lights up , all gauges quit working ( speedometer , tach , temp , gas ) but engine never dies or hesitates , once home and shut car off , it will go into auto theift mode with the rapid blinking light and will not start!!! first time it happen I was able to drain the battery system and get it started and to a Ford dealership , being that it has to be scanned cause of the no communication with the Ford ids software which I do not have!!! they had it for a few days and checked all modules and connectors and found no issues but problem was gone and no stored codes!!! picked car up and 2 days later on my way home from work same issue , all dash lights come on , service advancetrac and no communication all over again , get car home and right back into rapid blinking theft mode and no start , this time I could not get it started and towed it back to dealership , this time they are saying they think it might be the power sterring module which is no serviceable part built into the trw rack and pinion that has been built since 2008 for these Fords but only 2011-2012 Fusions where issued a recall on this part!!! dealership said that the problem is gone again and they did some work on the wiring on harness but said it will probably come back and need a new rack and penion put in!!! I have no problem with this dealership , my problem is why Ford is not taking care of a known problem that has caused complete sterring failure and wrecks , my reserach has found that trw build this rack and penion since 2008 for the Fusion as well as other similar models , but only recall on a few models!!! this needs to be a broader recall , this is our main family car and now I am boarder line scared to drive it until I know 100% it is fixed and safe to drive and can't afford to replace it right now!!.

I was going home from work, sitting at a stop light on a city street, a "power steering assist fault" light came on. When the light turned green, I tried to turn to continue to the following street, well I couldnt. If my shop fixes it, will I get reimbursed? its urgent. I understand there is a pending recall, but how long is it going to take to process the recall? my car is a model with elec. Assist rack and pinion. My car only has 107,000 miles.

Takata recall when I turn on my car the warning message said "power steering service now. " when I try to get out of the parking lot of the store. Had to call a tow to get it to a shop. Since Ford was all booked up and dont have an opening till 3-4 weeks later so I took it to a shop that would take a look at it the next day. The shop told me that my rack and pinion was not working. They said was the car in any accident or went into any potholes I told them no. Because I mainly drive on the highway which has no potholes. The shop told me to get a new rack and pinion it would cost me $1000 or get a rebuilt one for $600. So I went for the cheaper option because I don't have that kind of money for a new one. Right now I'm just waiting for the car to be fixed. The car only has 68000+ miles and its already breaking down. If the car of that year has a recall get the recall for all of the cars of that year not just some.

Diagnosis of the problem is that the entire rack and pinion steering assembly must be replace because of a failure of the electronic motor that is not serviceable. The repair is an expensive repair as the replacement unit is expensive. My concern is that this is a true safety issue. My research shows that Ford changed the steering assembly part way through the production of this model year. This implies that they knew there was an issue and took steps to address. This changed assembly was later used on the remaining 2010 and carried through to the 2011 and 2012 model years that were later recalled because of issues with this steering assembly. Your organization identified a safety issue with the 2011 and 2012 model years yet chose to ignore the 2010 model year. There are thousands of failures on the 2010 model year. Help me understand the rationale for not classifying this as a safety issue.

My car has 200800 miles on it, my electric rack and pinion has been replaced 3 times and just last month it went out while going 65mph on the highway, I cut off a semi truck and some cars and almost tboned the cement barrier. I complained to Ford for a second time regarding the electronic steering rack and since it is not recalled it is unable to be replaced. Most of the people in the call center are not fluent in english so its near impossible to get issues resolved. The part is made in new mexico and my only alternative is to purchase a refurbished rack. I refuse to buy this rack because its a known issue with Ford Fusions and most people who have had this issue have gotten into serious accident or near misses such as myself. The car currently sits at the autoshop while I drive a rental until I can afford to buy the 1300 part and have Ford charge me an additional 1150 to install it. The steering grinds and sticks or freezes in one direction. If a class action lawsuit is ever filed through Ford for failed products, then sign me the hell up.

Went to work while parking the car in the street the electric power steering fail. I call one dealer told me no appointment for at least 3 weeks I will contact another dealer. The rack and pinion on my 2013 Ford Fusion has gone out with 53,000 miles on my car through no user fault. I first noticed the noises when turning the car on and pulling out of a parking spot. Without warning the stearing started making grinding noises (like what a car makes when the power stearing is going out) and would the wheel would periodically catch (this is within two days of the noises starting) when I would turn. Other than these symptoms there are no other signs of steering failure. I could have been driving down the road and locked up without notice. Ford had a recall on the rack and pinion on my model, but when the dealership ran my VIN, it is not included in the recall as the parts must have manufactured at another factor. Considering the low mileage on my car and maintence routinely performed this is unacceptable. Through research I have seen this happen on multiple Ford Fusions on 2011+. Thankfully mine did not fail while on the road like others. This is a safety issue and Ford needs to make this right. A mechanic was thankfully able to locate the issue before I got into a serious accident due to steering failure.

My rack and pinion steering gear on my 2014 Ford Fusion went out I got it replaced just for it to mess up five months later I took it back into the shop to get more information they say the computer of the steering rack isnt communicating properly with the master computer in the car.

Takata recall so I have read there are recalls on the power steering but not on my car and my power steering had failed on me only have the car for a year now, I was driving on a not so icy road and my advancetrac came on so I have gotten to my destination and when I got back in my car my steering power had went out and now they are saying my rack pinion needs to be fixed.

The power steering on my car stopped working as I was driving. Luckily, I was local and was able to get the car to a mechanic. The mechanic said the car needs a new power steering rack and pinion even though te car has less than 75k miles on it.

Service power steering now there is no power steering at all and the vehicle only has 38,388 miles on it. The dealership wants $1,700 to replace it. I could have been injured severely it there was other vehicles in the area. It went out unexpectedly when I was turning at an intersection. That scenario definitely caught me off guard. I hit the curb slightly and messed up my front bumper because of it. Luckily I had enough strength to turn the wheel and not going over the curb off the road itself. When my power steering went out. It did a little jerk motion to the right right before it completely failed. I feel this is a major safety issue and I should get a complimentary power steering rack and pinion replacement because of this issue. Some of the complaints alleged that the steering assist failed and resulted in increased steering efforts that contributed to a loss of control and in some cases a crash. The epas system was manufactured by trw automotive for Ford and was designated as generation I. These units were first produced and put into vehicle production in July 2008 beginning with the model year (my) 2010 Ford Fusion and Mercury milan. The system is comprised of a mechanical steering rack-and-pinion gear with torque sensor, electric assist motor, motor position sensor and a power steering control module (pscm). The pscm is self-monitoring and designed to detect faults within the system and can store diagnostic trouble codes (dtcs) if a problem is detected. There are 29 potential dtcs the system can detect. Many of these allow the system to go into reduced-assist steering mode by using the default vehicle speed signal should the live speed signal be lost, if voltage to epas system falls below 10. 7 or goes above 17 volts, the temperature at the pscm goes above 105c (221f), or if high friction is detected. Some dtcs will cause the system to go into manual steering mode (no assist). On July 1, 2015, Ford filed a defect information report (dir) identifying a safety related defect in trw gen I epas systems installed.
