Ford Mustang owners have reported 47 problems related to clutch pedal/linkage (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford Mustang based on all problems reported for the Mustang.
Accelerating onto interstate on ramp tried to shift into second gear. Second gear did not engage. The rpm's spiked due to the car being in neutral because of it would not engage gear. The clutch pedal then stayed on floor until rpm's came down. Very scary! Mustang only has 600 miles on it and it does not shift well, especially 1st to 2nd shift.

At 150 miles on the odometer the transmission began to grind second gear while turning left. I took it to the dealer, and they changed the fluid as per t. S. B. There was zero change. I took it back to the dealer, and they said it was normal and was a 'break in' issue. Despite disagreeing I drove it until there was around 10,000 miles on it. At this point it was nearly impossible to shift into second when turning left without physically forcing it to the point I was skipping to third. Also third gear had developed the same issues intermittently. I took it back in, and they bled the clutch. After receiving the car I took it back the next week, as obviously it did not fix anything. Ford decided to replace the transmission. The technician reported all syncros and blocking rings were extremely worn and second and third gears showed signs of wear. He also reported the input shaft bearing had showed signs that it had been very hot. After receiving my car back I noticed a difference, now the shifter linkage had a noticeable popping/binding feeling in the linkage when moving the shifter back and forth in the nuetral position. I was informed that it was abnormal, but that other cars on the lot had the same issue. Which later I found out to be a lie. After about 100 miles it has shown the same exact symptoms as before including the new linkage issue. I drove the car with the technician with me for an extended period of time. I was able to duplicate the issue when turning left. The technician was also able to notice this issue when he was driving. Even though it happens only when turning left and only when changing to second gear, he again lied to me and told me that it was normal, and that in all cars you have to wait a little bit for the syncro's to catch up and it is normal to have to wait a few seconds while holding it up to the syncros for it to slide in. I took delivery on my 2011 Ford Mustang gt/cs in late October of 2010. It had approximately 8 miles on it. From that day forward it was a little stiff to get it to go in to any gear. I had grown a custom to it and just assumed it would smooth out since it was a new car. Now that I have been driving my car as a daily driver for a year the issues have just increased. Sometimes you cannot get the car to shift in to 1st gear without attempting several times. In early September 2011 I was driving on the highway and shifted from 3rd to 4th gear and the clutch pedal remained on the floor. I had read about this but it had not happened to me yet. So I was not to shocked when it happened. My current incident as of 19 Nov 2011 was attempting to shift from 4th to 5th on the highway. I was unable to get it to shift in to 5th gear. I had slowed down and attempted to shift from 2nd through 6th and again, the transmission would not shift in to 5th gear. On 20 Nov 2011, I was driving to work and it was extremely difficult to get the vehicle to shift in to any gear. I am not sure if it is just the transmission or clutch, maybe it is both of them but it is frustrating when you have a new car and pay almost $40,000 for it and it does not work well. This is something I deal with on a daily basis and it happens more in colder weather from what I have seen. Thank you for looking in to this matter.
(1 and 2) the manual transmission on the vehicle has intermittent problems where it will not go into gear (up-shifting). Regardless of type of driving (fuel efficient, hard driving), the vehicle will lock out of the next gear. For example, from first to 2nd gear. The transmission will go approximately half-way into gear and stop. The result is an inability to continue accelerating. The vehicle must be taken out of the locked gear, put in neutral, clutch released and re-engaged, then shifted back into the previously attempted gear (2nd gear in the current example). Possible results of this incident include accidents and injury. I have almost been rear-ended several times. (3) the vehicle has been taken into service twice for the issue. The first time (June '05), the dealership adjusted the linkage resulting in no change. The dealership also told the consumer (me) to make sure the clutch was completely engaged. The second time (10/18/2005) the vehicle was put in for repair, the dealerships service advisor and service manager informed the consumer that it was a design flaw in the transmission. Ford is "looking into it, but there is no solution available at this time and may not be available in the future.

When consumer applied the clutch pedal it caused the engine to rise up from 100 to 3000 rpms. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, and floor manager determined there was something wrong with car. However, the manufacturer indicated nothing was wrong with the vehicle.
Special gas/brake/clutch pedals in Mustang gt bullitt edition (only) can slip out from under foot when foot pressure is applied in wet and especially soapy conditions (I. E. Car wash). Clutch pedal is especially prone to slippage. Rubber nubs on pedals can also come off with certain shoes, reducing foot-pedal friction further.

This is the third pressure plate replacement that has been put into this car. I now have a one of a kind hand built pressure plate because the factory could not find a plate that fell within the factory tolerances. During the current time at the dealership ( approximately 3 1/2 weeks now) the dealer could not get the car into gear and stated that the shifting forks were probably bent anf not letting the car shift plus the pressure plate issue.
