The 2015 Mustang has been driven about 62,000 miles. The car has not been driven excessively in the 8 + years my wife and I have owned it. I recently heard a noise from the car. I brought the car to a local reputable repair shop. They determined, that there was a problem with the differential. They took the housing case off and found metal shreds in the case. They feel that a bearing failed caused the complete differential failure. I talked to Ford and they have no open recalls for this and recommended contacting the NHTSA. The car is at the repair shop waiting for parts to repair the differential at a cost of approximately $3,000.

The 10-speed automatic transmission (10r80) in my 2019 Ford Mustang gt began malfunctioning around 84,000–85,000 miles, displaying a consistent hesitation followed by a sudden jolt during acceleration between 15–30 mph. A Ford dealership confirmed the issue and diagnosed it as an internal leak in the clutch drum assembly, referred to as a “cdf drum internal leak. ” the vehicle has not shown any warning lights or dashboard messages, and the symptoms developed gradually before becoming consistent. The malfunction causes the car to unexpectedly lurch forward during normal driving, which poses a safety risk to myself and others, particularly in traffic, at intersections, or when merging. This unpredictable behavior could lead to loss of control or rear-end collisions. The transmission remains installed in the vehicle and is available for inspection upon request; however, will be fixing it soon since it is my only car. To date, the vehicle has only been inspected by the dealership and not by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives.

The shift knob in this car has an issue where the silver abs plastic piece with the gear numbers and the shift pattern detaches from the rest of the shift knob. This issue has been confirmed and repaired by a Ford dealer twice already in the 9 months I have owned the car. The first time this issue occurred, the silver piece was loose. Before it completely detached, I was able to get it repaired at a Ford dealer. The issue was confirmed by the dealer in the receipt they gave "verified customer concern, shifter knob loose, the aluminum to the leather, replaced shifter knob. No other concerns at this time. " the second time this issue occurred, the silver piece suddenly detached when shifting gears during normal city driving. When this happened, the silver piece flew off the shift knob and fell into a gap next to the passenger seat. I was able to get it repaired at a Ford dealer again. They again confirmed the issue on the service receipt: "verified customer concern, replaced gear shifter knob". This is a safety issue since it is hard to tell what gear I am shifting into if the plastic piece with the shift patterns breaks off. Once the piece breaks off, it is not easy to grip the shift knob normally, requiring the driver contort their arm in a different direction to grip the shift knob, making it harder and slower to shift. As someone who is experienced with the car, I can get around these issues. However, if someone who just started driving this car experiences this issue, they may not be able to shift gears or shift into reverse, since they may not be familiar with the shift pattern. During the second occurrence of the issue, it caused a lot of confusion and momentarily reduced my attention to the road and the surroundings as I was shocked by the shift knob suddenly breaking and the piece flying off. I attached pictures of the second occurrence of the issue and receipts from the two service visits to a Ford dealer.

1. 2020 Mustang ecoboost is equipped from factory with redesigned block to minimize/eliminate coolant intrusion and or head gasket failure. I still had the dreaded "ecoboom" issue with coolant intrusion on two cylinders as a result of a broken head gasket and poor engine block design. Regular maintenance was perfomed and use primarily top tier 93 octane fuel. 5k mile interval 5w-50 oil changes according to manual using Ford spec oil full synthetic. Cold start misfires and excessive engine shaking are still occurring despite short block replacement by Ford and they won't diagnose properly. 2. Electrical/audio. Issue with crackling audio, audio skipping and both iphones and androids having disconnection issues. Factory reset the sync module twice, attempted reset by unplugging car battery and also checked alternator. Replaced car battery with fresh battery and issue persists. 3. Powertrain: the 10r80 auto transmission is extremely jarring and does not shift smoothly. Hesitates throughout gears, sluggish gears changes. Gives whiplash effect even after a filter and oil change for the transmission with oem fluid and filter. Premature transmission gasket housing failure as well causing atf to leak onto ground.

My vehicle recently had a head gasket leak due to a faulty engine block design. I noticed one day the coolant was lower than it should be but nothing concerning, over a month or so it got progressively lower & the car would also sputter/misfire on startups from time to time. This is due to coolant slipping through the gasket & getting into the cylinder & oil which can lead to catastrophic engine failure or worse. Eventually I got a check engine light & was told it was a misfire after running a diagnostic on the vehicles obd2. I researched what the issue could be &it became more & more apparent that it was a head gasket issue. The oil was contaminated & coolant was getting very low. Apparently it’s a big issue since Ford is now facing a class action over the defect. The vehicle also has some issues with the transmission, for example ill start the car up on a cold California morning 50°f & let it warm up before driving & when I go into reverse after the car will jolt hard as if you were backing up & hitting something like a wall, even in the afternoon when you start it from a cold start & go into reverse it will do it. Not sure why but it’s concerning to say the least. The transmission also feels confused when shifting, when I’m in 4th about to push fit it will get confused & revs will drop slightly before going up again to up shift, also when downshifting due to braking the shifts can feel a bit hard, especially when needing to stopping fast. The engine & transmission are the most importantly parts of a vehicle & without them working properly is something no one should have to face.
Coolant leaked into my engine cylinder blowing my head gasket . This is due to poor design from Ford. The cost to replace the engine is about $12,000.
The contact owns a 2024 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was able to restart. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was not available.
Vehicle was purchased new in 2019 and in 2022 my transmission started with harsh gear changes which resulted in a reprogram/relearn of the transmission. As of may 2025 my transmission is doing the same and has now caused my vehicle to stall while at a red light. In addition to this I have not seen any warning signs or check engine lights.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Mustang. The contact stated while attempting to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle jerked until shifting into gear. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the cdf drum and the main control were faulty and needed to be replaced. For roughly 4mths beginning in April 2025, my 2018 Ford Mustang ecoboost has been suffering from a sporadic misfire, with it the system reporting the misfire and the check engine light coming on, the Ford app identifying the misfire occurring. It was initially repaired with replacing all spark plugs, ignition leads. The sporadic misfire would continue to occur, Ford dealership kept the car for 2 days in late July, took everything apart said they were unable to replicate the misfire, cleared the codes (p0303 being the main one that appears consistently) and said to come back if it occurred again. Roughly 2 weeks later the issue occurred again, took the vehicle back to Ford where they kept the car for 2 days, went through the same process and could not replicate the issue. They dug deeper into the issue and found that the coolant would not hold pressure and with the use of a video scope found that the intake valve had fractured and was leaking coolant into the engine as well as distributing multiple shards and pieces of metal from the valve intake fracture. Informed me that the only option was to replace with a new engine and turboboost. They reviewed and found that there were no recalls related to this issue for this vehicle. After undertaking my own research, I found this to be a known issue for Ford and that roughly 100k vehicles had been recalled starting with the 2020 vehicles for the same issue. The out of pocket expense is around 14k, and the vehicle is currently waiting on a replacement engine to arrive. Currently Ford are not offering any assistance in the cost of the replacement, been though they have been servicing the car since 2020 and it is regularly maintained per their guidelines of vehicle needs based on the mileage driven.

On April 6th, the ac in the car began stalling and a few days after the engine started making all sorts of noise and failing and ultimately stopped working. I kept the car in my garage until I was able to obtain the money to replace the engine. I just yesterday picked up my car from the shop that replaced the engine (where I paid $13,000). The car is back in the shop and having same stalling issues.
While driving at highway speed it randomly shifts into first gear almost causing and accident/.

Transmission issue. Transmission slams into 2nd gear when downshifting from 3rd. Transmission has grinding noise when going from 4th to 5th. Potential safety issue due to potential transmission failure. Yes, problem is reproducible, however, it is awaiting inspection at mike patton Ford. No warning lamps. Car has had transmission issues intermittently since 4/2020. This issue started 2 weeks ago.
2018 Ford Mustang echo boost. Engine light came on code p0420 which is the catalytic converter and we already new this when bringing it into Ford dealership. We informed the check in advisor the transmission feels like it's slipping or jerks when in 2nd geer which slows down the vehicle. Took it to Ford and was first informed the transmission was good nothing wrong with it just need to change my catalytic converter because that was the code. We changed the catalytic converter but when driving still was experiencing the same thing we originally brought it in for which is the jerking and slowing down upon accelaration. Took it back to Ford they re checked it and said the cdf drum is failing and to repair it would cost $4000. I don't have $4000 and my vehicle is out of warranty because of the mileage.
Car jerking, rpm needle jumps alot, feel like im going to run into someone or something, not getting gas mileage like before.
My 2017 Ford Mustang gt has 27,000 mile on it. I was driving home from work and just went through a traffic circle and I was in 1gear when I went to shift I could not shift. The clutch blew apart while driving normal and it is the factory clutch. Pictures of the equipment involved are available and show no sign of wear or abuse just that it separated. This could have been a major is had I been on a major highway when it happened.

I was driving home from work at approximately 65mph when my transmission shifted and slammed back into gear. I stopped in a safe location, cut the car off and then back on, but the transmission is still slipping. The dealership was notified of powertrain, electrical, and oil consumption issues at three different service appointments, but the manufacturer has been no help at all. Had I not known what to do, this could have been a completely different scenario.
Georgia, metro atlanta area, on [xxx]; while driving on [xxx] , at speed of around 65 mph, car dashboard displayed message of drive mode disabled; service engine soon. 2024 Mustang gt lost ability to accelerate, or change gears; was forced to pull over to the far right in order to exit highway. Stopped at a shell gas station parking lot, turned off ignition, waited a couple of minutes, turned on ignition, the warning signs of service engine soon disappeared. Was able to drive to nearest Ford dealer for service appointment. Is available for inspection upon request. Personal safety and safety of others on road were at risk since car lost ability to drive while at highway speed. Dealer service was unable to diagnose or confirm the problem. Vehicle has not been inspected by manufacturer. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Unexpected downshift to first while driving between 40 mph to 65 mph can lead to complete loss of cruise control, accompanied by a wrench symbol and an error code. Additionally, the speedometer fails to display a reading and may abruptly drop to first gear without any prior warning. Signaling low fuel levels.
Weld at clutch pedal assembly broke, causing the clutch pedal to bind. This binding prevents the clutch pedal from fully depressing.
At idle the engine idles roughly and rotates randomly at speeds from 300 to 900 rpm. When starting from a stop such as a traffic light or when pulling onto a roadway hesitation is often noted and on several occasions this has resulted in near accidents as the vehicle won't proceed as required to move through an intersection.
Ford did issue a recall for several issues for my car, including but not limited to, problems when filling gas tank with evaporative purge system as well as cavitation of the fuel pump in high heat conditions, the doors not closing all the way or handles remaining open( not flush with rest of door) when door is shut, driver's side door trim/bezel around power window switch making buzzing sounds when stereo is in use, as well as ticking sounds coming from motor during operation and various creaks and sounds from front suspension when cornering and going over uneven terrain, and the transmission, the 5r55s, has the known hard shift into gear caused by bad servo. I have reached out to the dealers in my area regarding these issues and even though my car is the correct model and year for the service recall bulletins and has the exact issues described there in, I am told that the VIN on my car is not covered even though it is clearly suffering from equipment that exhibits all the same problems listed in the recall. I feel the responsibility to perform and pay for these repairs should fall on the manufacturer, not I, the customer.

While driving my 10r80 automatic transmission shifted into neutral even though the shifter was positioned in drive. I was unable to accelerate and was forced to pull over on the side of the road to prevent an accident from occurring. I placed the shifter into park and turned the car off. I then started the vehicle back up and began driving. The transmission continuously shifted rough while driving my destination.
After driving for 2 blocks, my car would not drive when hitting the gas pedal, the engine only reved. Unable to move the car in any gear, pedestrians helped push my car out of the middle of the road. Towed the car to a Ford dealership because the Ford app on my phone said "shift solenoid stuck in off position". Upon diagnosis the dealership said yes the solenoid is stuck in the off position but now the gears are slipping and you need a brand new transmission. This is the 10r80 automatic transmission that has had problems like this nationwide. I don't understand how this has not been recalled yet. With 63,000 miles a transmission should not be failing. There have been hundreds of documented cases of this specific transmission failing for countless reasons involving internal components.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Mustang. The contact stated while the contact's wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact noticed a grinding sound and the vehicle jerked. In addition, the contact stated that a tire system warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, however the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was informed that his loyal customer scores were low. The contact was requested to pay a diagnostic fee. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a failed valve body. The contact was informed that the valve body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed of technical service bulletin 21-2115, which had a similar failure description. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. An additional complaint was filed against the dealer for making a comment regarding the contact's low customer scores. The contact was also informed of technical service bulletin 10r80, which had a similar failure description, however the contact was informed that the repair was not covered under the program. In addition, the contact was informed that the failure was a known issue with Ford Mustangs. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA hotline and report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 44,113.
I was driving at 70mph and the steering wheel locked without any error showing on the dashboard. Ford could not find a fault when it was connected to a computer. Later after a test drive they confirmed it was the electronic power assisted gear assembly fault.
The weld that connects the clutch pedal bar to the tube it pivots in broke on my 2015 Mustang. This makes the pedal wobbly and can prevent the clutch from being fully depressed. For months, the clutch was squeaking. Upon inspection, I noticed the weld was broken. I have not been in an accident because of this, however, the clutch pedal is now loose and can at times hit the 'neutral' switch (which measures full depression of the clutch to allow the car to start), which prevents inconsistent depression of the clutch, leading to unsafe operation.
Transmission solenoid malfunction (p0757). Car came to an abrupt stop in the middle of a speeding boulevard for no external reason at all. There was no prior impact or damage. I almost got rear-ended and t-boned ten times. Considering the amount of complaints on this Ford transmission 10r80, I firmly believe this transmission needs to be recalled and our repair/damage expenses reimbursed. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Mustang. The contact stated while driving at approximately 45 mph the vehicle was shifting roughly. The contact stated that no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but became a recurring failure. The contact stated that the failure occurred at various speeds. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the torque converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to technical service bulletin number: 20b27 torque converter (power train). The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
Related to regional recall 22r01, the rubber bumper on my brake pedal that engages the brake light switch failed and placed the vehicle in a low power mode. This failure occurred while merging onto the interstate and almost resulted in my being rear-ended by a semi truck. Having never been notified of this regional recall, I was able to verify this was the case after searching forums and youtube and identifying the pieces of the broken bumper in my floorboard. I find it to be horrendously unacceptable that this was allowed to be handled as a regional recall and no notice was ever produced, as it is a safety-related issue that could have resulted in grievous bodily harm. I am located in kentucky, which is not part of the named region.
