1 Transmission Failure problem of the 2013 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 01/06/2020

I purchased a used 2013 Ford Mustang boss 302. The car only has 9,000 miles on it. It only comes with the 6 speed manual transmission. It has a clunky shift between 1st and 2nd gear and 5th gear. You must shift very slowly when it is cold or it will grind the gears. I have looked at several Ford boss302 facebook groups and everyone states they will have clutch lockout if they shift at high rpm's and ultimately will have transmission failure due to a clutch that is unable to provide enough clamping power to to hold the flywheel when shifting. Numerous users stated that as soon as they upgraded to clutches by mccleod, exedy, or mantic, the problems immediately went away. They all state it is not the transmission, but the faulty clutch that causes the transmission to fail eventually. The boss 302 engine has a 7,500 rpm redline which is higher than the other coyote 5. 0 liter engines. The clutch can not handle this high rpm limit. So, basically Ford sold a performance car that you can't drive anywhere near its limits because of the faulty clutch/transmission. They should be required to replace the stock clutch with a higher quality aftermarket clutch. If they replace it with the same Ford clutch, the problem will repeat.

So I took it to a Ford dealer where they where to fix the problem but in turned fix 2nd gear but messed up my reverse synco gear now. The car has been in the shop for almost 4 weeks and Ford wont make a surplus of part for this transmission that the parts needed are on back order until April 20th 2015.

6 Transmission Failure problem of the 2012 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/23/2014

According to my Ford dealership, the synchronizers between 1st and 2nd bears failed. I have had several issues with this transmission previously, causing the car to fail to shift while accelerating. This is incredibly dangerous, as failure to accelerate while merging into traffic would have been catastrophic. Thankfully, I was in a parking lot when my transmission failed.

7 Transmission Failure problem of the 2012 Ford Mustang

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Mustang gt. The contact stated that the manual transmission failed. The contact stated that when she attempted to shift from first to second and from third to fourth, the gear shift would get stuck and she would have to down shift and try again. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 12.

8 Transmission Failure problem of the 2012 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 08/30/2011

Noticed a transmission leak while rotating tires. Took it to my Ford dealer, who examined the leak and informed me that the forward transmission seal failed. The service manager told me that they had to remove the transmission to replace the seal. Unable to determine if there is internal damage to transmission. The car is 2 months old and has 5700 miles. Dealer said this is happening to many Mustang transmissions and there is a service bulletin.

9 Transmission Failure problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 08/12/2011

2011 Mustang gt 6 speed transmission failure to go into 2nd gear. Generaly happens during sharp left turn. I cannot even force it into 2nd. Doesn't always happen but enough to frustrait the hell out me. I'm 62 years old and have driven any number of manual transmissions I don't understand what the problem is. It's a great car other than this.

10 Transmission Failure problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 08/10/2011

2011 Mustang gt with manual transmission. Transmission failure. Car will not shift into any gear. I have been told it could take over a month to get the parts in because they are coming from europe.

11 Transmission Failure problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

Mt 82 6 speed transmission failed to down shift properly creating a near miss situation due to driver not being able to select lower gear to power up to exceed or at least match the speed of on coming vehicle. The on coming vehicle was a semi traveling 55 mph in 55 mph posted speed zone. Had the vehicle performed properly sufficient speed would have been achieved as to not impede the progress of the approaching semi. A reasonable and acceptable amount of distance was present prior to pulling out into traffic. Dealer was advised and performed a change of fluid to a duel clutch fluid which and I installed an aftermarket shifter (mgw shifter) which made a slight improvement. I still believe a design issue exists. Placement into gear is often difficult and up shifting is not smooth as it should be. This transmission has done this on multiple occasions. I am not sure how many complaints there have been but this transmission defect in the 2011 Mustang is common knowledge among Mustang web sites and forums. The general feeling is Ford has not been as aggressive as they should be to find a solution for this issue.

12 Transmission Failure problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 11/23/2010

6 speed manual transmission fails to shift or shift smoothly into 2nd gear causing a safety situation in attempting to pull out in traffic. Went to pull out in traffic and could not shift into 2nd, traffic was bearing down and I had to quickly shift to third. Problem started when car had about 1000 miles on it. Car was checked out by a Ford dealer and I was told it was normal and nothing could be done. Upon investigation I found that this is a widespread issue across hundreds if not thousands of Ford 2011 Ford Mustangs with a 6 speed manual trans. Transmission exhibits extreme notchiness and grinding/clanking when attempting to shift into 2nd. Whats strange is that it is intermittent in nature and did not happen when new.

13 Transmission Failure problem of the 2005 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 07/29/2008

The transmission failed. I was driving home from work and the car would only go in second gear. I made it to my mom's business and had it towed to Ford dealership after talking to a Ford customer service rep. The dealer told me the transmission would have to be replaced. Every transmission place I talked to said that these transmissions are failing in all of the Ford vehicles that have them between 60,000 and 90,000 miles. Ford refuses to fix or replace the transmission because I didn't buy an extended warranty. It is going to cost me several thousand dollars to replace this transmission. There is a defect in these transmissions and all of them should be recalled and Ford held responsible for the costs. My car isn't fixed yet because I don't have the money to do so. I have a 3 and a half year old Mustang I cant drive that I am paying for.
