Was driving 55mph & vehicle would drift left when brakes applied. Took to dealer & nothing found. Drove some more & problem was getting worse. Took it back & service manager indicated problem was with the brakes. It was drifting left. Also, would drift when steering was released & shaking. Tires were found out of balance. Firestone, wilderness atx, 0235/75r15. Right front tire went flat & was informed ran over a nail, but it could not be produced.
The left rear wheel seal moved out of the axle housing, and caused fluid to get on brakes. This has affected the braking ability, at panic stop vehicle pulls hard to the right. The seal was replaced for the first time at 4700 miles, and has been replaced 4 more times since. The dealer denied that the axle housing was defective. Scc.
While traveling within the posted speed limit and approaching a green light at an intersection, two vehicles traveling at a safe distance ahead of me decided to stop at the green light to allow a police car through the intersection traveling perpendicular to us. I braked to stop thinking I had plenty of time. The brakes did not function as I think they should. Everything locked up and I bumped into the car in front of me. It was not a hard hit as I almost stopped. The car was not damaged but my truck had the bumper ruined and other relatively minor damage. I feel the brakes did not work as designed and the gentelman at the body shop says he has heard similar complaints from numerous Ford Ranger owners. Is there a history of this reported?.
When attempting to stop brake pedal gets hard and truck stopping distance is increased. Have had two very close calls with other vehicles nearly being hit. Problem started about 6 weeks after I purchased truck. Have had vehicle in 7 times to three different dealers. They stated there was no problem but I knew better. Have seen similar problems on this website and would like to contact those people. You have permission to publish my e-mail address.

While driving and applying the brakes, pedal went all the way to the floor, resulting in extended stopping distance. Also, front left brake rotor cracked, causing brakes to pulsate.
When applying abs brakes, pedal traveled to the floor , causing extended stopping distance. Also, pressure applied to the brakes bent the brake pedal.
The anti-lock brake system locks up on wet pavement when the pedal is applied. The pedal is hard when applied it only goes half way down, vehicle will slide before coming to a stop. Dealer has been contacted and repaired vehicle, however vehicle still locks up occasionally.
The abs locks up and skids every morning when the vehicle is first started and every time it is driven in the rain. The dealer and mechanics have both verified that the brakes work fine. The problem is difficult to demonstrate. When the brakes warm up they operate fine.

Within 36,000 miles the left front brake rotor cracked, less than 3,000 miles later the right front brake rotor cracked. The first rotor was replaced by the dealership under warranty. The second one was replaced at owner's expense. Please provide any further information.
When it rains braking system locks up which may cause a loss of control and may result in a crash. Also, dealer cleaned the drums, but problem is still occurring.
Traffic in front of my vehicle came to a complete stop, I stepped on the brakes, (no I did not pump them), the pickup took a lot of distance to come to a complete stop. I had probably three car lengths infront of me and I hit the trailer hitch of the pickup infront of me. I contacted the dealer where I purchased the vehicle and they told me it didn't fail. That was it.
Truck pulls to the left under moderate/hard braking. Dealer has examined but problem continues.
Ford Ranger 1999. When truck hit 100-150 miles ,it started pulling to the left when you would brake. At 1000 miles,it started pulling to the right. By 1500 miles it would pull either way, or maybe not at all! now it is pulling hard hard left. If unaware or caught off guard, it will yank the steering wheel out of your hands. Very dangerous!! I have almost hit other vehicles and even the cement freeway divider. I will let no-. One else drive. It is too unsafe. . . I also had a 1998 exact same truck-exact same problem, even after 7 service visits/ and days taken off work. Earnhardt was unable to fix the problem and Ford didn't know what it was. Ford finally bought the 1998 back from me and put me in this 1999. . . . The '99 has not been in the shop, yet, until Ford manufacture can figure out a solution. . On the 1998 that earnhardts tried to fix everything they could think of with no satisfaction!!! this process is very hard on my nerves and my love of Ford vehicles. It is an experience I never wanted to have to go thru again. In short: I believe this truck is very very dangerous and should not be on the highways or streets! ( dot number: ).
Problem with rear drum brakes grabbing when trying to apply slight brake pressure, aggravated in damp weather. The first time I took it into cole whitney Ford for repair was 2/19 /98 mileage 12282. The dealer said it was caused by a build up of brake dust that when wet would cause lock up. They blame it on the non asbestos content of the shoes. All they did was clean out the drums and sand the shoes. They said there is no known repair other than this. I have now moved to bangor so I have my truck serviced at darlings Ford 403 hogan road bangor maine 04401 phone 1-800-540-1339. Since the first incident in Feb. 98 I've had the truck in to darling's twice with the same problem . They treated the problem in the same way, still no permanent fix. I asked if Ford would continue to take care of this problem at no charge after the warranty expired. They told me to call Ford customer assistance. They said they would not and I should talk to the dealer as they may do it as a sign of good faith. This is an important safety issue on this vehicle as I travel 60 miles to work in all weather and it's dangerous to have the rear brakes grab when driving on ice . I've had several incidents of nearly losing control when applying very slight pressure on the brakes and the rear brakes locked. I've also had problems in the summer during damp weather on nearly dry roads when the rear brakes locked up causing the anti lock system to come in and greatly increasing the stopping distance. The last Ford truck I owned was a 1987 model it had the same problem which was finally cured by installing brake shoes containing asbestos by me. I 'm told by darlings these type of brake shoes are no longer available. I should think that after 11 years Ford could come up with a fix for this problem. I think this is an accident just waiting to happen and something needs to be done. The brakes acted up again last weekend and I'm taking it in to darlings again Monday 03/15 99 , probably another temporary fix.
A vibration has developed under all braking conditions (15,000 miles on). The steering wheel will shudder and twitch from side to side. Entire vehicle will vibrate. Worst under low braking pedal pressure. As the vehicle slows, the sensation is as if the brakes are making varying braking contact with the rotors/drums, consistant with the wheel revolution speed. At low speed and light brake pedal pressure, the steering wheel will suddenly spin 90-180 degrees to the left, causing the vehicle to change driving lanes, unless firmly held back. Dealership inspected and drove the vehicle. Experienced vibration/shudder and wheel pull. States braking and steering systems components are in normal condition, brakes are unadjustable, complaint is common, and usually gets worse. Can offer no solution.
Consumer was driving on the street, approx. 30-35 mph, needed to apply brakes when vehicle braking system locked up without warning, causing vehicle to vibrate/shake/ and out of control. Dealer notified and informed consumer that the brakes was defective and repair at the cost to consumer.
When consummer steps on the brakes pedal to stop vehicle he can feel a vibration on entire vehicle. Dealer had explained to consumer that there was a problem with the rotors. Consumer said the first time it happened was at 15000 miles, and the second time at 24000.

Anti lock brakes lock up in rear, light stays on continually. (lawyer for consumer).
When driving down on the highway if the brake pedal is pressed softly the rear brakes lock up and don't want to release. Dealer has been contacted.
Driving, started applying brakes, rear brakes grabbed and locked up, lost control of vehicle, happens only when humidity is high or weather is rainy. Waiting for parts from dealer since July. Not under recall.
Braking ability is reduced by approximately 60% in wet weather. (1st vehicle on 601633).
Brakes lock up only during wet road conditions. Vehicle been to dealer's repair shop on three occasions, and problem still occurring. Please provide any further details on this matter .
Anti lock brakes continually lock up causing loss of control, vehicle went into ditch on one occasion, brakes can not be repaired to the lack of replacement parts.
Upon applying force to the brake pedal in wet weather conditions the front brakes grab, causing the brake pedal to go to the floor.
Traveling at moderate speeds on any rough surface and making a panic stop, there appears to be loss of brake effectiveness and a response from rear abs.
When applying the brakes, the vehicle pulls to the left. Cause unknown.
