1 Brake Light On problem of the 2011 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 06/15/2015

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Ranger. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but the brake lights failed to illuminate. As a result, another vehicle crashed into the rear of the vehicle behind the contact, causing that vehicle to crash into the rear of the contact's vehicle and the air bags failed to deploy. The contact did not sustain any injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that a switch on the brake pedal needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. However, the failure recurred immediately after the vehicle was repaired. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer but the contact was not provided with information on what part was replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000.

2 Brake Light On problem of the 1999 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 01/25/2012

Truck lost brakes while going downhill. Frame corrosion had caused right spring hanger to fail, and corroded brake line burst. I was able to pump the brake pedal and avoid an accident. Brake warning light came on after the incident. Mechanic put the truck on a lift, and identified severe corrosion to the brake lines, differential, frame, and several other undercarriage components. Truck had been undercoated and washed regularly, and has less than 105,000 miles. Mechanic suggested all new brake lines, total frame, and rear end replacement.

3 Brake Light On problem of the 2002 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 02/02/2008

When the dealership disconnected our speed control (recall) the abs light came on and stayed on which eventually led to failure of the rear brake system. They would lock up while going down the road. We had to have the rear brakes and wheels rebuilt and spent over $1,000 on repairs. When the abs light came on immediately after disconnection of the cruise control the dealership check it out and said it would be fine. I have a hard time believing that this vehicle just developed a sudden brake issue that just happened to CO-inside with the disconnection of the cruise control. What is even harder to believe is that once it was fixed the brake light magically went off.

4 Brake Light On problem of the 2001 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 09/15/2007

Ford 2001 Ranger was notified August 2007 of a safety defect with the speed control wiring. I went to my dealer, and was told the new wiring harness was not available, but the existing wiring was unplugged, which would disable the cruise control, & the new harness would be available in November. Immediately, after the dealer unplugged the speed control deactivation switch (scds), there was a fault light for the brake anti-lock system. I went back to the service department and ask why, & was told there was no connection to the speed control sensor. They said they 'fixed' the problem, and I drove home. In less than two miles the anti-lock brake light came back on. The next morning, the light came on twice while driving to and from work. Again the dealer said it was not related to the speed control problem. However, I have visited several web sites where many other people are also having the identical problem, which only started when the scds was disconnected, while waiting for their new wiring harness. When this warning light is on, the anti-lock brake system does not work. When I reconnected the scds, the warning light does not turn on and the anti-lock system works normally. I have called the dealer about this problem, and to ask when I can get the new wiring harness installed. I am being told the two problems are not related, and that there are not enough new harness kits available. I choose to have better brakes every day, so I have reconnected the scds until I can get the new wiring harness installed. How many other people are doing the same thing? how long is reasonable for Ford to delay getting the new harness installed?.
