The contact owns a 2001 Ford Windstar. While driving 30 mph, the contact noticed that the abs failed and the brake indicator was illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop, but a technician could not determine the cause of the failure. The contact called the manufacturer and stated that no compensation would be provided because there were no recalls. The failure mileage was 115,847 and current mileage was 115,884.

I have an abs light that intermittently comes on in my 2000 Ford Windstar van. When my van was under warranty I tried to get my dealer to check for the codes on the computer but the light wasn't on at the time and they said they would not be able to find the problem. With the light on Dec. 8 I was coming home from logan wv in a snow storm and the abs failed to stop me on the rte. 73 bridge in logan the front tires locked up and I slid narrowly avoiding a collision.

This is on a 2002 Ford Windstar. The brake pressure differential deactivation switch located under the master cylinder has developed a leak. This appears to be a know problem with the Ford Windstar but Ford has done nothing about it. Also, the abs system failed due to heat build up. Again it appears that this is something that Ford has known. I also noticed that Ford escapes were recalled with this same problem so why not the Windstars?.

Back in 2008 I was involved in a fender bender (about $6,000 in damages) when my abs failed causing me to slide into another car. At first I thought it was minor issue, but have since been told it's a major issue with many owners. I've found that the recall (09s09) does not address all the underlying issues and the Ford dealer will not fix all of the issues. Additionally I was told by my local Ford dealer that there were no open items on my van for abs. When I inquired what that meant, they said that there was nothing on recall for abs on my vehicle. I had never had anything done to the abs, so it was not because it was already fixed. A week ago, I was almost involved in an accident because of the failure of the abs system; I was only going 40 mph. I constantly have my brakes checked because I have to press them hard to work. The rear brakes are almost new, and the front (pads and rotors) are new so the brakes should work better than they do. Since there are major reports of problems, this needs to be addressed by Ford.

After filing a serious complaint about an abs brake failure earlier this evening, I continued to research 'complaints on 2001 Ford Windstars on your website and was shocked at the number of complaints involving the abs system. The false warning lights tied to an 'electrical' problem that are referred to throughout the complaint section are identical to an ongoing problem that we have tried to address with our local dealership for the past two years! on August 26th, the abs failure that occurred in my vehicle while traveling on a highway could have resulted in a fatal accident for myself and my 9 year old son if it had occurred just seconds later. I would have passed the weigh station that allowed the vehicle to decelerate on an incline with the car in neutral and the emergency brake deployed.

Abs module failed. The repair part is $800 and not covered under warranty. Reviewing the issue there are a number of people who seem to have this same problem and appears to be attributed to a poor designed heat sink on the abs control module circuit board.

Abs and break lights are on. Premature abs failure no fix but to replace pump and control unit.

The contact owns a 2001 Ford Windstar. While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal and the abs alarms and abs light illuminated. The abs disengaged and the vehicle skidded forward approximately 30 feet. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they performed a diagnostic. The dealer raised the abs codes and the failure was corrected for 5 to 10 miles before it recurred. The contact will take the vehicle to another dealer. The current mileage was 62,000 and failure mileage was 60,000.

Vehicle was purchased used in April of 2006. Abs system was functioning fine from that time until March 2007. The abs system fails when ambient temperature is above 35 degrees f. There is no abs light and system functions correctly when temp is below 35. Abs light comes on immediately at start up in summer time (temps around 80 degrees) and malfunctions. Abs time to failure correlates to ambient temperature in that it takes longer to malfunction closer to 35 degrees, and short time to malfunction at greater temperatures. I have taken no corrective action at this time as I am waiting for Ford to do a recall. System continues to malfunction daily. The website I found that encouraged filing this complaint says that Windstars from model year 1999 through 2003 are experiencing this same widespread defect. (heat related due to expansion of an aluminum heat sink in the abs ecm.

Iã‚m reporting this as a fire hazard. The vehicle was in the driveway and began to smoke. The vehicle is in good repair, not neglected or abused. I located the source it was the abs module and disconnected the battery until I could make arrangements with the dealer. I drove the vehicle to the dealership. The abs module had failed and burned the wiring harness. There were no warning lamps or fuses burned. I questioned why there was no warning and shouldnã‚t there been safeguards in place to prevent such damage. I asked if there were other cases of the same occurrence and the dealer didnã‚t know. I asked if there was someone else I could contact and they told me I could call Ford customer care. The dealer informed me that the dealership and Ford motor company are not responsible for the damage caused to the vehicle since the warranty expired and that further damage or fire would result if not repaired. Abs and brake failure warning lights constantly displayed in dashboard display. Brake inspections cannot determine a cause. I just learned that many other Windstar owners have reported the same problem, and that a recall for repair may be (or have been) issued.

The left front excitor ring of the abs system failed. Due to a crack in the ring, which allowed the ring to slide inward on the axle disengaging from the sensor. My wife came to the end of our driveway and attempted to stop. The antilock system prevented the brakes from engaging properly. The abs light came on and I brought the vehicle to metro Ford in raynham, mass. They said the ring is made right on the axle and can not be replaced by itself. And replaced the axle with ring. That info proved to be a lie as other Ford dealers I later called said they replace just the ring all the time. I have 25 years of prof. Abs light comes on at times. Has done this since about 30,000 miles and van has 150,000 currently. At first it would randomly come on about every other month and I thought that was normal, now it comes on every other day or multiple times a day. Abs computer is defective and needs to be replaced. Failure codes that are in the abs computer: 1145 rf wheel speed input circuit failure 1185 power relay output circuit failure 1198 lf isolation valve circuit failure 1194 lf dump valve circuit failure 1254 rr isolation valve circuit failure 1246 rr dump valve circuit failure 1250 lr isolation valve circuit failure 1242 lr dump valve circuit failure 1214 rf isolation valve circuit failure 1210 rf dump valve circuit failure as you can see from the codes the abs computer has failed. The abs computer will be deactivated until a replacement can be installed.

Abs failed completly along with the rest of the brake system. Service dealer says a geared ring that reflects to a sensor cracked. This loosened the ring along the axel shaft so that it was no longer located correctly. The failure was complete, and with no warning left me without braking ability on a small hill terminating onto a very busy highway with my 9 yr old daughter with me. It was only great luck that no truck, bus, or car was coming when I rolled right into the highway instead of stopping. No accident resulted, just a very close call. The service dealer reported that I was the second Windstar in the day with the same problem. This is a small town to have two (rare events)! he also inferred that it was rare and thought there was no reason to call Ford. How many other dealer are not reporting this failure?.

The abs system has failed on numerous occasions , twice due to control module failure, and several times due to cracked sensor rings and sensors. I have just had the module replaced for the second time and 3 days later the abs light is on again. The last time it failed, my brakes were inoperative on dry pavement, alternately locking up and disengaging, I narrowly avoided collisions. I have noticed many similar reports and wonder when a recall is going to be ordered. Additionally I have experienced severe binding and grinding in the steering, particularly in cold weather or when the vehicle sits overnight. A firestone service center feels the problem is probably due to rack and pinion problems. I am told by Ford that my vehicle not covered under nhts recall 97v165001. Again I notice many other similar reports . When is NHTSA recall 97v165001 going to be extended to include other production dates. L.

While driving, experienced abs failure, when attempting to slow/stop got no response, vehicle continued to go foward at same speed 20-25mph, rearended mail truck, no prior warning, no injuries.
