Abs light keeps coming on. Replaced all speed sensors and front axle tone rings even rebuild the abs control module. This is costing me allot of money and the abs light still come on even after I have completed all the necessary repairs. Ford needs to recall these Windstars to make the necessary repairs for these vehicles.

Abs light comes on sporadically. Sometimes the abs light on the dash will illuminate immediately upon starting the car and sometimes it will light after driving 10-15 minutes. Have replaced all four wheel speed sensors without correcting the problem. Have noticed in several emergency braking situations, when the abs light is illuminated, the abs system is not functioning and the wheels will stop turning and the car will skid to a stop.

The abs light has been going on and off for no reason. I took it to a mechanic and they said the only code that was affecting the light was the front right tire speed sensor which we replaced and the code went away. The cruise control dosent work and the light comes on and breaking is sometimes much more difficult when slick/wet and liable to cause an accident. The mechanic told me my vehicle was included in the Ford recall from 6/2012 relatingn to abs light and diagnostic trouble code c1185.
My 2001 Ford Windstar's brakes were locked and I could not disengage them. I had the car serviced for this problem many times, most recently in January of 2010 when I was told that they determined that the problem was the rear speed sensor. They replaced it and told me it was all set and wouldn't happen again. Yesterday (4/6/2010) while I was travelling in interstate 95 south it happened again with disastrous consequences. I put my brakes on to slow down but instead of slowing down my car came to a screeching halt in the left lane of fast moving traffic. We were hit twice and the car was totaled along with the other cars involved. I am wondering if this has happened with other 2001 Ford Windstars.

Braking distance suddenly increased even after the latest recall, my car abs light continues to stay on. I have had the speed sensor replaced and the wheel sensor cleaned at the dealership yet problem persists.
In February, 2009 I noted that the abs and e-brake warning lamps would illuminate when driving. Computer code analysis reflected the need to replace the driver's side wheel speed sensor. I replaced the sensor. The lights continue to illuminate each time the vehicle is driven. Also, the interior lights flash randomly and are very distractive. I have turned off the interior light switch to eliminate this problem.

The contact owns a 2001 Ford Windstar. While driving various speeds, the traction control, abs, and service warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The traction and abs became inoperative. The dealer inspected the vehicle and stated that water entered the computer module and they reset the codes. Immediately after the repair, the failure recurred. He took the vehicle to the dealer again and had the front wheel speed sensor replaced. After the repair, the failure codes appeared again and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The technician replaced the abs power relay. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer again in reference to the failure and they stated that he needed to repair the abs module at the cost of $800. The vehicle has not been repaired again. The failure mileage was 115,000 and current mileage was 119,000.
The contact owns a 2003 Ford Windstar. The contact noticed that the abs warning indicator would sporadically illuminate on the instrument panel. She took the vehicle to the dealer and they cleaned the wheel speed sensor. Three weeks later, the failure resurfaced. Currently, the failure still persists. The failure mileage was 63,000 and current mileage was 70,000.
Within 3 months of each other the right and left front abs (speed sensor) rings cracked in half. I was informed by the repairing Ford dealership, chapman Ford, pleasantville, NJ, that this problem was evidently a defect and could not understand how this could occur under normal driving conditions. I viewed the broken left sensor ring. There was no corrosion and no evidence of wear or tear. It was simply cracked in half. This defect causes the automatic braking system to fail. Ford refuses to acknowledge there is a problem and refuses assistance with replacing the defective parts.

Abs light came on, went to the dealer, dealer replaced the left front wheel speed sensor and reset the abs module. Two days later abs light back on at 60 mph. Dealer says now the module that was reset is burned out. Wants to charge 531. 00 plus labor to replace. If the module was reset, how did they not know the module was burned out the first time?.
