Brake calipers failed by getting stuck with the brake pad contacting the disc, causing premature brake pad wear. Mechanic reported seeing identical failures of this make and model.

Brakes keep sticking,-and it feels as if the caliper hangs up when consumer puts on brakes.
The consumer has been experiencing problems with brake calipers. When applying the brakes, they make a grinding sound. The defects are described in recall number 98i-003. 000 and investigation number ie97054. The manufacturer has been contacted.
Caliper bolts fell off of vehicle.
Front caliper failed.
When applying brakes vehicle will not stop, usually takes about 2 car lengths before it stops. But it can also vary, depending on the speed. Dealer has replaced brake pads 3 times/7 times rotors and calipers. This has to be done usually every 1500-3000 miles defect is occurring.
Left front caliper locks up and not retracting.
Abs problems; when applying the brakes on normal road conditions there is a grinding sound and the pedal goes to the floorbroad, and more stopping distance is required. Dealer stated that the brake calipers were missing and were replaced under warranty. Consumer is still experiencing a braking problem.
Driver's side lower brake caliper disconnected, just fell off. Cause unknown.
Both front disc brake calipers were leaking. The owner replaced the calipers on 6/22/2003. The owner also contacted the dealer on 6/23/2003.
